WATCH: Texas basketball celebrates NCAA Tournament draw

Texas earns its highest NCAA Tournament seeding since 2008.

The Longhorns were all smiles on selection Sunday after earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Texas gathered together for a bracket reveal watch party at the Moody Center on Sunday.

This marks the highest seeding for Texas basketball since the 2007-2008 season when the Horns made it all the way to the Elite Eight.

Texas is set to take on the Patriot League champion and No. 15-seeded Colgate in the first round of March Madness. A win over the Raiders could set up a potential second-round matchup between instate rivals Texas and Texas A&M.

Getting hot at the right time is a key factor for the NCAA Tournament. Texas has won four consecutive games after cruising to a Big 12 Tournament title in Kansas City this weekend. The Longhorns are a trendy pick to make it out of the midwest region and make it to the Final Four.

Rodney Terry’s group is no doubt excited to gear up for the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.

Bracket for the 2023 Big 12 basketball tournament revealed

Texas earns the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament.

The college basketball regular season ended on Sunday, and teams are gearing up for conference tournaments.

The Big 12 basketball tournament is set to be one of the more competitive in the nation. Many around the country consider the league the best from top to bottom.

Kansas earned the top seed after winning the regular-season crown once again. The Jayhawks have been the most successful team in the history of the Big 12 tournament, cutting down the nets 12 times since 1997.

The tournament format is a single-elimination bracket. The top six teams in the conference receive a bye into the quarterfinals. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

While the Big 12 likely has at least six teams safely in the NCAA Tournament field, the lower seeds are eyeing that automatic bid spot to prolong their seasons.

Here is a look at the 2023 Big 12 tournament bracket, including each game’s dates, times and TV channels.

College Basketball: NCAA Tournament status for each Big 12 team

The Big 12 Conference is arguably considered the top league in college basketball this year.

Teams are trying to put the finishing touches on their NCAA Tournament resumes as we approach the end of the college basketball regular season.

The Big 12 Conference is arguably considered the top league in college basketball this year.

Quality depth from top-to-bottom makes the round-robin schedule a gauntlet for all 10 teams. Every game is a dogfight, with upsets a common occurrence each week.

The Big 12 has fared well in March as a conference team has appeared in each of the last three national championship games as well.

60% of the Big 12 currently sits inside the latest AP Top 25 Poll, the highest rate of any conference in the nation. In addition, Kansas, Texas, Baylor and Kansas State are ranked as top 15 teams.

Here is a look at where each Big 12 member falls into the current NCAA Tournament tier status. Big 12 teams are fighting for high seeding, locked into the field of 64 or on bubble watch with four games to go.

Texas Basketball: Longhorns a No. 1 seed in lastest projections

Texas is in a position to earn a No. 1 seed for the first time since 2003.

Texas Basketball: Sir’Jabari Rice sparking Longhorns’ success

Sir’Jabari Rice is the type of player Texas needs to make a run in March.

Texas basketball brought in Sir’Jabari Rice via the transfer portal over the offseason from New Mexico State.

The addition of Rice was overshadowed a bit by Texas bringing in Tyreese Hunter from Iowa State and five-star guard Arterio Morris. Expectations for Texas’ guard play this season has exceptionally high, but not because of Rice.

Fast forward to the middle of the season and Rice is one of the most impactful players on the roster.

Rice is playing himself into contention for Big 12 sixth man of the year with his play thus far. He is the only Big 12 bench player to record back-to-back 20-point games this season.

Rice provides a spark for the Longhorns every time he touches the court. His beautiful pump fake gets both opposing defenders and Texas fans off their feet.

In a game where Marcus Carr did not have much success scoring the ball, Rice picked up the slack, scoring 21 points to take down No. 11 Baylor. Rice is poised for the big moment and continues to come up clutch late in games for Texas.

Rice is going to play a significant role for Texas as they compete for a Big 12 title and a national championship.

Texas is a No. 6 seed in East Region NCAA Tournament

Texas is a No. 6 seed in what could be the toughest region.

Chris Beard’s first season as the head coach at Texas has been a rollercoaster, as the team never has really formed a consistent identity.

After starting the season a top five team, the Longhorns struggled at times but were still able to hang around in the top-25 rankings throughout the season.

While they didn’t get the automatic bid that they would have gotten, had they not been upset in the first round of the Big 12 tournament by TCU and won the conference tournament, they still put together a good enough season to receive an at large bid on selection Sunday.

The Longhorns were named as a No. 6 in the East region, which is headlined by schools such as Baylor, Purdue, Kentucky, and UCLA.

Texas’ first game will be on Friday, where they take on the No. 11 seed Virginia Tech Hokies who are one of the hottest teams in the nation, and are coming off a huge win over Duke in the ACC conference tournament.

The Longhorns on the other hand have lost five of their last eight games, and will need to wake up quickly, otherwise Texas will be an early exit…again.
