5 takeaways from Bears’ 24-14 win over the Lions

From the Justin Fields-Darnell Mooney connection to the blow of losing David Montgomery, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ Week 4 win.

There’s nothing that cures the woes of a football team like playing the Detroit Lions. The Chicago Bears welcomed their division rival to town on Sunday and promptly got to work, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive and never looking back, winning 24-14 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Rookie quarterback Justin Fields once again got the start in place of an injured Andy Dalton and he was clearly able to shake off last week’s dreadful performance. Fields was sharp and explosive, putting the Bears in prime scoring positions all game long.

On defense, Chicago’s front seven continued to bully offensive lines, getting to quarterback Jared Goff 4 times and creating 2 turnovers. Though the Lions were able to move the ball throughout the day, the defense clamped up when it mattered most to limit the Lions to just 14 points.

It was a feel-good game for everyone involved with the Bears, but this team still has a long ways to go if they want to be considered a true playoff contender. Here are my takeaways from Sunday’s victory.

5 takeaways from Bears’ jarring 26-6 loss to the Browns

The Bears had the worst offensive performance we’ve seen since the turn of the century. But that’s just the start. Here are our takeaways.

The Justin Fields era began with a massive thud on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Hype and excitement quickly turned to anger and pain faster than it took Myles Garrett to bulldoze through Jason Peters. The Bears netted just 47 yards of offense in a brutal 26-6 loss against the Browns to drop them to 1-2 on the season.

To sum it up nice and quick, the offense was nonexistent, the defense held on for as long as they could, and the coaching staff failed to properly give Fields a fighting chance to succeed.

All in all, it was arguably the worst offensive performance we’ve seen since the turn of the century. But that’s just the start. Here are my takeaways from Sunday’s loss in Cleveland.

5 takeaways from Bears’ narrow 20-17 victory over the Bengals

From continuing to roll with Justin Fields to locking down Roquan Smith, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ Week 2 win vs. Bengals.

Wins don’t normally come easy for the Chicago Bears, and Sunday’s victory against the Cincinnati Bengals was no exception. The Bears won 20-17 thanks to an efficient first-quarter offense, a dominant defensive performance at all three levels, and a clutch run from Justin Fields to ice the game in the fourth quarter.

Fields saw more time than usual after a knee injury knocked out starter Andy Dalton. With the veteran’s status in question heading into Week 3, the debate to start Fields is sure to ramp up in the coming days. But for now, we’re enjoying the first Bears victory of the season, and I had a few takeaways from the home opener on the lakefront.

5 takeaways from Bears’ 34-14 prime-time loss vs. Rams

From the Bears’ atrocious secondary to Justin Fields’ debut, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ Week 1 loss to the Rams.

It wasn’t a pretty sight at SoFi Stadium on Sunday night if you were a fan of the Chicago Bears. Playing the Los Angeles Rams in prime time for the fourth straight year, the Bears were embarrassed in front of a national audience, losing 34-14 to start 0-1 on the season. The offense was lacking in explosive plays and the defense couldn’t stop any of them on the other side.

Starting quarterback Andy Dalton was efficient for the most part but failed to deliver any explosive plays whatsoever in the passing attack. The run game kept the chains moving as David Montgomery eclipsed 100 yards rushing, but the many yards yielded few points. An offense that scores just 14 points isn’t going to lead to many wins.

Defensively, it was as bad of a performance as I had seen in seven years. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford diced up the secondary, having two passes of 50 or more yards go for touchdowns. The tackling was atrocious and aside from one sack, there was absolutely nothing to celebrate from this unit.

Week 1 in the NFL always provides the biggest overreactions, so while I’m going to try to avoid major hot takes, this performance overall doesn’t inspire much confidence for the rest of the season. Here are my takeaways from Sunday’s loss to the Rams.

8 takeaways from the Bears’ initial 53-man roster

From concerns at cornerback to WR Rodney Adams making the final cut, here’s what we learned from the Bears’ initial 53-man roster.

The Chicago Bears made 27 cuts to finalize their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, which included plenty of surprises and left fans with plenty of questions about the state of the team less than two weeks from the start of the 2021 season.

There was plenty to digest from this first 53-man roster, including an influx of players at certain positions. Keep in mind, this initial 53-man roster is subject to change as waiver wire claims are made and other players are moved around.

Here’s what we learned from the Bears’ initial 53-man roster.

10 takeaways from Bears’ 27-24 preseason win vs. Titans

From Justin Fields ready to be QB1 to Jesper Horsted making a case for the roster, here are our takeaways from Bears’ 27-24 win vs. Titans.

The Chicago Bears closed out the preseason with a 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans, where Matt Nagy rested most of his starters looking ahead to Week 1.

Chicago’s preseason finale win featured some impressive performances by players on the roster bubble looking to impress as final roster cuts loom, and it also marked rookie quarterback Justin Fields’ first NFL preseason start, where he put a stamp on his preseason with a sensational touchdown throw.

There was plenty to digest from the victory, be it good or bad. Here are our takeaways from the Bears’ preseason finale win over the Titans:

Takeaways from Bears 2021 training camp by position

From standout players to concerns at offensive line and cornerback, here’s what we learned from Bears training camp.

The Chicago Bears officially wrapped training camp on Thursday, where there’s still plenty of questions heading into the preseason finale and the start of the regular season.

It’s been quite an eventful training camp, filled with injury concerns, surprise standouts and an official quarterback competition that was more exciting than the official one last summer.

With training camp at a close, here’s one thing we learned from every position over the last month:

9 takeaways from the Bears’ 19th training camp practice

From a big day from Bears starting safeties to the battle at left tackle, here’s what we learned from Tuesday’s practice.

Following a light practice, the Chicago Bears returned to the practice field on Tuesday, where they had a padded practice.

It was another great day for the defense, which brought out the takeaway bin on several occasions. They made it a rough day for quarterbacks Andy Dalton and Justin Fields.

Following Tuesday’s practice, here’s a look at what we learned from Day 19 of training camp:

9 takeaways from the Bears’ 18th training camp practice

From a healthy offensive line to Justin Fields getting some reps with starting receivers, here’s what we learned from Monday’s practice.

Following their preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears returned to the practice field Monday at Halas Hall for a non-padded practice to kick off their final week of preseason.

There was some surprisingly good news on the injury front as right tackle Germain Ifedi was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list, guard James Daniels returned to the lineup and new Bear Jason Peters got some work at left tackle.

Following Monday’s practice, here’s a look at what we learned from Day 18 of training camp:

6 takeaways from Bears’ preseason loss to the Bills

From Justin Fields earning reps with starters to concerns on defense and special teams, here’s our takeaways from the Bears’ loss to Bills.

For much of Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Bears played uninspiring football in their 41-15 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills. The starting offense struggled to get anything going, sans one big play from quarterback Andy Dalton. Meanwhile, Bills quarterback Mitchell Trubisky got the revenge he was seeking against the Bears defense, putting on a show for his former team as he got the start for Buffalo.

The second half was better for both sides of the ball as rookie quarterback Justin Fields looked great in sports with his arm and his legs, but also struggled due to the lack of protection on the offensive line. The defense, meanwhile, was able to create a few turnovers against the Buffalo reserves after getting gashed in the first half.

All in all, though, it wasn’t a pretty day on the lakefront and with just one preseason game left, the Bears have a lot of questions to answer in a short amount of time. Here are my takeaways from Saturday’s preseason game.
