Bears LB Roquan Smith ruled out with pectoral injury

The Bears defense lost another key member of its defense with LB Roquan Smith suffering a pectoral injury in the first quarter vs. Dallas.

The Chicago Bears suffered a critical loss on defense early against the Dallas Cowboys.

Inside linebacker Roquan Smith has been ruled out with a pectoral injury suffered in the first quarter of Thursday’s game against the Cowboys.

Kevin Pierre-Louis has taken over for Smith, who joins Nick Kwiatkoski as the Bears’ inside linebacking corp as Danny Trevathan remains sidelined with an elbow injury.

Chicago’s defense is currently without key starters in Trevathan, Akiem Hicks, Amukamara and now Smith.

The Bears lead the Cowboys 10-7 in the final minutes of the second quarter.

Bears Week 14 Inactives: Prince Amukamara out vs. Cowboys

The Bears released their list of inactives ahead of tonight’s game against the Cowboys, and CB Prince Amukamara has been ruled out.

The Chicago Bears have released their list of inactives against the Dallas Cowboys, and it’s not good news for the defense.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara has officially been ruled out with a hamstring injury, which means that Kevin Toliver will get his second career start opposite Kyle Fuller.

Receiver Taylor Gabriel, tight end Ben Braunecker, linebacker Danny Trevathan and Bobby Massie were previously ruled out.

The Bears and Cowboys will kick things off at 7:20 p.m. CT.

Bears DL Akiem Hicks aiming for Week 15 return vs. Packers

Bears DL Akiem Hicks practiced for the 2nd straight day as he returns from injured reserve. Hicks is aiming to return in Week 15 vs Packers.

Eight years into his NFL career, Chicago Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks finds himself dealing with something unfamiliar: A serious injury that has held him out for a significant period of time.

Hicks suffered a dislocated elbow against the Oakland Raiders back in Week 5, and he was placed on injured reserve shortly after. He’s missed seven games this season after having missed no games with the Bears prior to this season.

But Hicks practiced for the second straight day as he’s coming off injured reserve and aiming to return next week against the Green Bay Packers.

“I won’t lie; it was super tough,” Hicks said, via ChicagoBears.com. “You know you play this sport and you know that it’s violent and rough and they say there’s a 100 percent injury rate.

“I always felt I was above that. I never really had to really experience some of the things that teammates of mine have experienced or opponents of mine have experienced. Yeah, it was hard on me. But everything that has a beginning has an end, right? Being here in this place right now and being able to practice with my teammates, there’s nothing better.”

While Hicks has been permitted to practice, he isn’t eligible to return to game action until Week 15 against the Packers, where he fully intends to play, regardless of the result of Thursday night’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

“If I can get my body to a place where I feel like I can compete at a high level, there’s nothing that would stop me from being on the field with my boys,” Hicks said.

While there is no live tackling in practice, Hicks isn’t concerned about whether his elbow can take a hit.

“We’re testing it right now,” he said. “We’re making sure that it can do the moves that I’m accustomed to doing and we’re giving it our best shot. We’re going to try to be out there as soon as possible and play some good football.”

Bears DL Akiem Hicks returns to practice

The Bears welcomed back Pro-Bowl DL Akiem Hicks to practice on Sunday as he recovers from a dislocated elbow. Hicks can return in Week 15.

The Chicago Bears prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, they welcomed back Pro Bowl defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to practice Sunday.

Hicks, who dislocated his elbow against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 6, was placed on injured reserve Oct. 15. He began his journey back to the lineup with a return to practice, which could culminate in a return against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said that Hicks wasn’t able to do “a whole lot” during practice, but the practice was light on Sunday.

“It’s nice to see him out there on the field,” Nagy said. “He’s been on the sidelines … He’s never left us. We’ve felt him.”

According to the Sun-Times, Hicks was suited up but sitting on the bench during the portion of practice open to the media.

Nagy said that, regardless of whether the Bears win or lose against the Cowboys on Thursday, as long as Hicks is healthy and ready to play that he’ll play against the Packers on Dec. 15.

With four games remaining, the Bears are clinging to slim playoff chances at 6-6. They need a lot of help, but they’ll also need to win out if they have a chance of earning a Wild Card berth.

Bears hopeful DL Akiem Hicks can return to practice Sunday

The Bears are closer to potentially getting back DL Akiem Hicks in Week 15, although they hope he can start practicing Sunday.

As the Chicago Bears head into the final quarter of what’s been a disappointing 2019 season, they’re clinging to slim playoff hopes — and they might be getting back a key member of the defensive line in the process.

After suffering an elbow injury against the Oakland Raiders in Week 5, Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks has been on injured reserve since Oct. 15. Hicks is eligible to start practicing Sunday with the team, although he won’t be permitted to return to game action until Week 15, where the Bears will travel to Green Bay to face the Packers.

“I hope that’s what our focus is,” coach Matt Nagy said Friday, via the Sun-Times. “We’re hoping that he’s able to come back this week and start practicing, so that’s kind of the goal.”

When asked if he thought Hicks could make it through an entire practice, Nagy said, “That, I don’t know. I guess we’ll see.”

The Bears would likely only activate Hicks if they remain mathematically in the hunt for a playoff spot. Currently, the Bears sit a 6-6 with a huge game looming against the 6-6 Dallas Cowboys next Thursday night. Chicago’s defense has certainly missed Hicks’ presence in the run defense, which has struggled with his absence.

“It’d be huge,” Nagy said. “Any time you have a guy that is the type of player he is, the type of leader he is, what he’s meant. I like the way he’s handled himself here in the last, whatever it is, seven or eight weeks. He’s done a great job at being around and being a great teammate and a leader and mentor to all these younger guys.

“It’s exciting when you get to this point. It does feel like forever ago, but hopefully we can get that moving forward.”

Week 13 Injury Report: 6 Bears miss Tuesday’s practice

WR Taylor Gabriel and TE Ben Braunecker remain sidelined with concussions in the Bears’ Tuesday injury report ahead of Thursday’s game.

The Chicago Bears released their injury report following Tuesday’s practice, and it wasn’t encouraging news for those injured Bears.

Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion) and tight end Ben Braunecker (concussion) were among six Bears that did not practice Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Right tackle Bobby Massie, who suffered a high-ankle sprain against the New York Giants, is expected to miss several weeks with the injury. Cornelius Lucas is expected to relieve him in his absence.

Tight end Adam Shaheen missed practice again with a foot injury that’s expected to sideline him for the third straight game, which leaves the Bears thin at tight end. Jesper Horsted and JP Holtz will lead Chicago at tight end for Thursday’s game.

Special teams standout and cornerback Sherrick McManis also missed his second straight practice after suffering a groin injury against the Giants. Linebacker Danny Trevathan remains sidelined with an elbow injury.

Don’t expect to see Bears WR Taylor Gabriel or TE Ben Braunecker on Thanksgiving

Matt Nagy says it will “probably be a stretch” to see Bears WR Taylor Gabriel or TE Ben Braunecker play Thanksgiving vs. Lions.

As the Chicago Bears prepare to face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, they’ll likely do it down two offensive weapons.

Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and tight end Ben Braunecker remain in concussion protocol, and both aren’t expected to play Thursday against the Lions.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said that it “would be probably a stretch” for Gabriel or Braunecker to play on Thanksgiving.

The Bears are already thin at tight end before Braunecker’s concussion, as Trey Burton is on injured reserve and Adam Shaheen is sidelined with a foot injury. Now, it’ll be the Jesper Horsted and J.P. Holtz show.

Gabriel’s absence could open the door for rookie receiver Riley Ridley, who’s been inactive this season on the 53-man roster. With Gabriel inactive, look for Anthony Miller, Javon Wims and Ridley along with Allen Robinson on offense.

Bears RT Bobby Massie spotted with walking boot on injured ankle

The Bears lost RT Bobby Massie and ST/DB Sherrick McManis to injury in Sunday’s 19-14 victory vs. Giants.

New game, same result for Bears right tackle Bobby Massie, who suffered another injury in Chicago’s 19-14 victory over the New York Giants.

Massie, who suffered a back injury against the Los Angeles Rams last week, was a full participant in practice and started Sunday’s game before exiting with a right ankle injury in the third quarter.

But this injury doesn’t appear to be a quick turnaround for Massie, as he was spotted leaving Soldier Field with a walking boot on his right ankle.

Massie was replaced by Cornelius Lucas. If Massie can’t go for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions, Lucas figures to fill in for him, as he did similarly in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins.

Also on the injury front, special teams standout and cornerback Sherrick McManis suffered a groin injury and was ruled out for the rest of the Giants game.

We’ll likely get an update on both Massie and McManis when Matt Nagy meets with the media on Monday in what’s a short turnaround for the Bears as they prepare for a Thanksgiving meeting in Detroit.

Bears Injury Report: QB Mitchell Trubisky practices in full for 2nd straight day

The Bears released their Thursday injury report, and it was good news for QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip), who practiced in full.

While Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky remains day-to-day with a hip injury, it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be good to go for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Trubisky was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day after leaving Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with a hip pointer.

When Trubisky met with reporters on Wednesday, he said that his hip was feeling much better — “day and night almost” — which bodes well for his return to the lineup.

In addition to a hip injury, Trubisky has been playing through an injured left shoulder and wearing a harness to protect it.

More good news for the Bears came with right tackle Bobby Massie being a full participant in practice for the second straight day. Massie suffered a back injury against the Rams.

Tight end Adam Shaheen (foot) and linebacker Danny Trevathan (elbow) did not practice for the second time this week, while linebacker Isaiah Irving was once again limited. Irving has missed the last three games with a quad injury.

Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky says his hip feels better, optimistic about status vs. Giants

After suffering a hip pointer Sunday, Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is feeling better and is optimistic about playing Sunday vs. Giants.

[jwplayer CyWAa1YN-ThvAeFxT]

Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is exercising caution, but he believes that he’ll be ready for Week 12’s matchup against the New York Giants.

Trubisky left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with a hip pointer, an injury that Trubisky described as so uncomfortable that he couldn’t sit down on the sideline and made the plane ride home a painful one.

But when Trubisky met with the media before Wednesday’s practice, he was optimistic about his chances to start Sunday against the Giants.

“[The hip feels] a lot better,” Trubisky said prior to practice, via the Sun-Times. “Day and night almost.”

While Matt Nagy insists that Trubisky remains day-to-day, the third-year quarterback sounded like a man that plans on playing Sunday. It certainly helps that he was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice with no limitations.

“I’m going to do as much as I can and as much as they allow me to do — day by day,” Trubisky said. “They have a plan in place to where we’re not overdoing it. I feel pretty confident that whatever they give me, I’m going to keep taking it, feeling good, keep going and communicating and monitoring it and just make sure there’s no setbacks. … If it keeps improving by Sunday, I don’t see any problems.”

When Nagy was asked if it would be better to shut down Trubisky in order to let him get a fresh start for 2020, Nagy insinuated that these final six games are important when it comes to evaluating Trubisky both developmentally and performance-wise.

“We need to see where he’s at,” Nagy said, “where our offense is at and continue to just keep rolling. We want him to be at practice. We want him to be out there this week as the starter. I’m hoping that’s the case.”
