Bears explode in the 1st half with 3 TDs vs. Broncos

Justin Fields and the Bears offense could not be stopped in the first half against the Denver Broncos.

It took four long weeks, but the Chicago Bears offense finally arrived in a big way against the Denver Broncos. The Bears took it to Denver’s defense thanks to a near-perfect first half from quarterback Justin Fields. The Bears scored three touchdowns against the Broncos defense, a unit that allowed 70 points to the Miami Dolphins one week ago, to lead 21-7 at the half.

Fields was sensational, completing 16-of-17 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns with a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3. His lone incompletion was on a Hail Mary to end the half. He’s easily on his way to having the best game of his career by a wide margin. Fields and the offense have 265 yards at halftime, already totaling more yards than their last two games.

The Bears got their scoring thanks to big plays from wide receivers D.J. Moore and Darnell Mooney, tight end Cole Kmet, and clutch runs from running back Khalil Herbert. Here are all three touchdowns from the first half.

WATCH: Bears QB Tyson Bagent dials up his own number for TD vs. Colts

The undrafted rookie shined during his first possession against the Colts.

Chicago Bears undrafted rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent is making a name for himself this preseason. The star passer from Division II Shepherd University led the Bears on a 17-play touchdown drive that went 92 yards, capped off with a two-yard scramble by Bagent into the end zone.

Bagent relieved quarterback P.J. Walker, who started in place of Justin Fields, and immediately sparked the offense. He went 7-of-8 for 61 yards with a couple of nice screen passes and darts to wide receiver Daurice Fountain. With Johnson getting 32 yards on seven carries on the drive, the Bears were able to put together their first sustained drive of the game.

Inside the Colts five-yard line, Bagent dropped back to pass and found space on the left side of the field. He decided to tuck the ball and run before diving into the end zone. The touchdown run tied the game at 7-7, which remains the score at halftime.

WATCH: Justin Fields and D.J. Moore connect with impressive touchdown at Bears OTAs

The connection between Justin Fields and D.J. Moore continues to get better and better.

The connection between Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver D.J. Moore continues to get better and better.

The duo provided an impressive highlight during Wednesday’s organized team activities (OTAs) that will likely be a preview of what’s to come this fall.

During team drills, Fields dropped back and delivered a perfect pass across the middle to Moore, who was double-covered by cornerback Kyler Gordon and linebacker T.J. Edwards. The pass was just beyond Gordon to hit Moore right in the hands to score a touchdown in the end zone.

While the team has yet to practice in pads, let alone play in a game, the chemistry between Fields and Moore on the field has been evident since offseason programs began. Players, coaches, and reporters have all commented on their connection after seeing the two up close.

Moore was acquired from the Carolina Panthers in March in a trade surrounding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The 26-year old receiver has 5,201 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns in his career and is the new unquestioned WR1 for the Bears.

Wednesday’s practice highlight should be a preview of what’s to come when the regular season begins and it already has fans salivating over the potential these two players have.

This Justin Fields highlight video will give you goosebumps

Have you missed watching Justin Fields play football? If so, one Bears fan has you covered with an incredible highlight video.

Have you missed watching Justin Fields play football? If so, one Chicago Bears fan has you covered with an incredible highlight video.

Rishab Sikri, better known as Da Windy City Productions on Twitter and YouTube, has been producing Bears and other Chicago sports videos for years. Whether it’s recaps of games or highlight packages, he’s made a name for himself with the work he’s done over the last four years. His latest project might be his best yet.

Sikri released a highlight reel of Fields on Tuesday that lasts for more than seven minutes. The video begins with numerous players praising the young Bears quarterback before diving into many of his impressive plays over the course of his young career, with reactions from broadcasters and studio analysts mixed in.

The highlight video has fans already wishing for September to arrive and even caught the attention of Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney.

With the Bears holding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, speculation has bubbled up about the team potentially trading Fields in order to select one of the top quarterbacks. That talk was always outlandish, but should officially be put to bed after watching this highlight package from just two seasons of work. Chances are many more are yet to come.

Highlights from the second day of Bears mandatory minicamp

The Bears returned to the practice field Wednesday for Day 2 of mandatory minicamp. Take a look at the action:

The Chicago Bears returned to the practice field at Halas Hall on Wednesday for their second practice of mandatory minicamp, which featured a slew of storylines.

Star pass rusher Robert Quinn remained absent from minicamp, and left guard Cody Whitehair was also a notable absence. Only Whitehair’s absence was excused, per head coach Matt Eberflus.

Quarterback Justin Fields had his best practice of minicamp following a rough first day, where his precision, timing and accuracy was on point. On the offensive line, rookies Braxton Jones (LT), Zachary Thomas (LG) and Doug Kramer (C) all saw time with the starting offensive line.

Here’s a look at some quick snippets of highlights from the second day of Bears mandatory minicamp:

Watch: Javon Wims brutal drop costs Bears touchdown

To the luck of Trubisky and Wims, the defender fell over and it appeared the Bears were an extra point attempt away from tying things early.

Trailing the Saints 7-0 in the first quarter of Sunday’s Wild Card game, the Bears caught a rare break against one of the better defenses in the league.

After a successful Matt Nagy challenge of a Javon Wims reception for 24 yards, following some trickeration, Mitch Trubisky went to the former Georgia wide receiver a second straight time.

To the luck of Trubisky and Wims, the defender fell over and it appeared the Bears were an extra point attempt away from tying things early.

Except for one slight problem.

Wims forgot the part where he needs to actually catch the ball.

It was tough enough to watch live but somehow more difficult to watch a second time.  Here’s to hoping we’re not replaying this the next eight months or so and wondering, “what if?”

Mitchell Trubisky finds Jimmy Graham for early first-quarter TD vs. Jaguars

After Chicago’s defense allowed a Jacksonville FG on the opening possession, it was the Bears’ offense that answered with a TD drive.

With the Chicago Bears looking for a postseason berth, every game counts in these final two weeks. And while playing the Jacksonville Jaguars certainly is favorable, there is no easy win in the NFL.

After Chicago’s defense allowed Jacksonville’s offense to drive down the field for a field goal on the opening possession, it was the Bears’ offense that answered immediately with a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky found tight end Jimmy Graham for a five-yard touchdown to give the Bears an early 7-3 lead.

The touchdown was Graham’s seventh of the season, all of which came inside the red zone. Graham’s seven scores ranks second in the NFC, tied with Tampa Bay’s Rob Gronkowski and trailing Green Bay’s Robert Tonyan (10).

The Bears and Jaguars are currently tied 10-10 in the second quarter.

WATCH: Khalil Mack breaks his sack drought, records safety in 2nd quarter

The Bears defense has had an impressive outing in the first half, including Khalil Mack’s sack of Deshaun Watson in the end zone.

The Chicago Bears defense is on track for quite a rebound game against the Houston Texans following back-to-back disappointing outings.

After allowing the Texans to march down the field and score a touchdown, the defense answered in impressive fashion. Outside linebacker Khalil Mack has been a force this afternoon, and he recorded his first sack since Nov. 1, which just happened to be in the end zone for a safety.

But before Mack’s heroics, it was defensive tackle Bilal Nichols that sacked Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson for a loss of 10 yards, which put Houston back on its own 9-yard line. It was Nichols’ fourth sack of the season.

Then it was Mack coming up big with a sack of his own on Watson, which came in the end zone for a safety that put the Bears up 16-7 in the second quarter.

In the first half, Mack has recorded a sack, a safety, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass deflection.

The Bears lead the Texans 23-7 in the second quarter.
