3 bold predictions for Bears vs. Packers in Week 17

The Bears are looking to cap off an improbable run to the playoffs by defeating arguably the best team in the NFC vs. the Packers.

The only thing standing in the way of the Chicago Bears locking down a spot in the postseason is their arch rival, the Green Bay Packers. The 8-7 Bears welcome the 12-3 Packers to Soldier Field to close out the 2020 regular season.

While the Bears don’t necessarily need a victory to clinch a playoff spot if the Arizona Cardinals wind up losing to the Los Angeles Rams, a win would go a long way towards setting this team up for success in the wildcard round.

When the Bears traveled to Green Bay in late November, they were throttled 41-25, seemingly ending any possibilities of playing in the postseason as their losing streak extended to five games. But now winners of three in a row, they’ll look to cap off an improbable run to the playoffs by defeating arguably the best team in the NFC.

This is my most difficult game to predict, as anything can happen at this point. Here are my bold predictions for Sunday’s tilt.

4 bold predictions for Bears vs. Jaguars in Week 16

The Bears are easily favored to win on Sunday and should be above .500 for the 1st time since Week 9. How will they get their win exactly?

By all accounts, the Chicago Bears won’t need a Christmas miracle to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars as they continue their pursuit to make the postseason.

The Bears are winners of two in a row, thanks to their revamped offense that has averaged over 31 points per game in the last four weeks. The 1-13 Jaguars, meanwhile, are well on their way to the number one pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after the New York Jets won their first game of the season last week.

The Bears are easily favored to win on Sunday and should be above .500 for the first time since week nine, but how will they get their victory exactly? Here are my bold predictions for this week’s game.

5 bold predictions for Bears vs. Titans in Week 9

The Bears are looking to snap a two-game losing streak when they face the Titans on Sunday. Here are our bold predictions for that match-up.

It’s been an eventful week for the Chicago Bears. Mounting injuries on both sides of the ball, positive COVID-19 cases on their offensive line, and the NFL trade deadline came and went, although the team stood pat by not making a deal.

Now, as they try to move forward, they get ready to face the 5-2 Tennessee Titans, who have lost their last two games. The Titans are in a similar position as the Bears, being a team that started out red hot, only to fall back a bit over the last couple of weeks. Which team will rebound to get back in the win column?

More importantly, though, will I be able to get one of my bold predictions right this week? Going 1-4 last week, with the one prediction that was correct being against the Bears as the Saints sacked quarterback Nick Foles five times, I’m feeling more discouraged than usual. But we press on and try to do better this week. Here are my bold predictions when the Bears clash with the Titans.

5 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 1 matchup vs. Lions

The Bears open the season vs. the Lions on Sunday, and there are sure to be fireworks from both sides. Here are our bold predictions.

We’re creeping closer to the start of the 2020 Chicago Bears season as they’ll take on their NFC North division rival Detroit Lions at Ford Field beginning at noon CT on Sunday. The Bears are looking to snap an opening-game losing streak that dates back to 2014.

Week One in the NFL is always the most unpredictable and that will not change this year, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic that severely limited the preseason. But this game is sure to see some fireworks from both sides.

Here are my five bold predictions for Sunday’s game.

1. The Bears score multiple offensive touchdowns

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

On the surface, this doesn’t seem like a bold prediction at all. But if you go deeper, you’ll realize the Bears have scored just one offensive touchdown in the last two openers combined under head coach Matt Nagy. The offense tends to start the season slow and I believe that trend gets bucked this year, especially since quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has played lights out against the Lions throughout his career. They will get going earlier, taking some of the pressure off the defense. Not the boldest of claims, but you have to start somewhere.

3 bold predictions for the Chicago Bears offense in 2020

From running backs to receivers to tight ends, our Bears Wire staff shares their bold predictions for the Bears offense in 2020.

When it comes to the Chicago Bears’ offense, there’s plenty of room for improvement across the board. That’s what happens when your offense was one of the worst in the NFL last season.

The Bears have made fixing the offense a priority this offseason, including bringing in four new offensive coaches and adding players at specific positions of need, including trading for quarterback Nick Foles, who will battle Mitchell Trubisky for the starting job.

Despite the offense’s struggles, there are reasons to be optimistic that this unit can be much better than they were in 2019, including some young talent and proven veterans.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 17 matchup vs. Vikings

Can the Bears offense slow down a hungry Vikings defense? Will Khalil Mack deliver a repeat performance? My final bold predictions for 2019.

The Chicago Bears (7-8) will face the Minnesota Vikings (10-5) in their season finale Sunday, and for many it’s a season that they can’t wait to come to an end.

Following the Super Bowl expectations ahead of the regular-season opener, the Bears have stumbled through their 2019 campaign, where the offense had one of its worst outputs in franchise history.

While the Bears aren’t playing for playoff contention, they’ll be looking to end things on a high note and look towards, hopefully, a much brighter 2020 season.

Here are my final four bold predictions for the Bears’ as they wrap their 2019 season against the Vikings:

1. Bears offense will hold Vikings defense to zero takeaways

AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast

There’s no defense that is forcing more turnovers in the past couple of games than the Vikings, who have garnered 10 takeaways in the last two games — seven against the Chargers and three against the Packers — which is four more than any other team in that same span. They’ve forced eight fumbles (recovered six of them) and have four interceptions in the past two weeks.

So the Bears offense definitely has its hands full as it prepares to face a Vikings defense that is peaking just ahead of its postseason berth. The Bears have turned the ball over three times in the past two games — all three of them coming against the Packers. Mitchell Trubisky tossed two interceptions (although one was a Hail Mary at the end of the first half) and David Montgomery lost a costly fumble.

The Bears are coming off a game where they didn’t turn the ball over against the Chiefs. Although we saw how well playing it safe worked out for Chicago.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 16 matchup vs. Chiefs

Mitchell Trubisky tops Patrick Mahomes? Matt Nagy gets the best of Andy Reid. Our bold predictions for Bears vs. Chiefs in Week 16.

The Chicago Bears (7-7) will host the Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) in their regular-season home finale on Sunday Night Football, where there are still many questions that need to be answered for a Bears team that is headed home after their final regular season game next week.

While there’s nothing left to play for with the Bears officially eliminated from playoff contention, there’s still plenty to watch as young guys battle for roster spots in 2020 and Mitchell Trubisky has two more games to show the Bears he can be the guy in 2020 and possibly moving forward.

Here are four bold predictions for the Bears’ meeting against the Chiefs:

1. The student bests the teacher

Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images

The only time that Matt Nagy and Andy Reid have faced off was during a third preseason game back in 2018, where Reid played his starters into the third quarter and Nagy rested his. Nagy got the best of Reid — as his second team led by Chase Daniel marched down the field on the Chiefs and the second-team defense contained Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense.

But you can’t put much stock into preseason, which is why this game will be a good gauge on exactly if Nagy, the student, can best the teacher, Reid. It’s not a surprise that both coaches are very similar, considering Nagy learned from Reid. But it’ll be interesting to see how they approach their gameplans.

Nagy is coming off one of his worst games as a playcaller against the Packers, so he’ll be challenged to get back to the basics that make this offense work, including establishing the run game, rolling Mitchell Trubisky out of the pocket and utilizing the up-tempo offense.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 15 matchup vs. Packers

Bears vs. Packers is always different. Anything can happen, including these four bold predictions.

The Chicago Bears (7-6) are riding a three-game winning streak and, most importantly, confidence heading into Sunday’s game against rivals Green Bay Packers (10-3) at Lambeau Field.

While things didn’t go as planned in the season opener, where the Packers squeaked out a 10-3 win, this time the Bears are ready to face their foes with playoff aspirations on the line.

Bears-Packers is always different. Anything can happen, including these four bold predictions.

1. Leonard Floyd will record 2 sacks

Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images

No one likes playing the Packers more than linebacker Leonard Floyd, who in 5 games against Green Bay has logged 7.5 sacks. In three of those games, Floyd registered 2 sacks.

While Floyd hasn’t lived up to expectations as an edge rusher opposite Khalil Mack, he does always manage to show up against the Packers — that is, when he’s healthy. In the season opener, Floyd accounted for 2 of the Bears’ 5 sacks of Aaron Rodgers. Chicago’s defense managed to contain Rodgers and the Packers’ offense, giving up just one touchdown.

The Bears will need Floyd, who has 4.5 sacks in the last two games against Green Bay, to, once again show up against the Packers with Chicago’s season on the line. And while I wouldn’t bet on Floyd’s long-term future with the Bears, I will be on Floyd getting after Rodgers on Sunday.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 14 matchup vs. Cowboys

Will Mitch Trubisky continue his passing streak? Who will be the newest 100-yard Bears’ receiver? That and more bold predictions vs. Dallas.

The Chicago Bears (6-6) are coming off a 24-20 comeback win over the Detroit Lions (3-8-1), and they’re looking to extend their winning streak to three games against the Dallas Cowboys (6-6) on Thursday Night Football.

The Bears offense resembled an actual offense last week against the Lions, where they got impressive performances out of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and receiver Anthony Miller. Can the offense continue its positive streak? And can the defense contain the Cowboys offense?

Here are four bold predictions for the Bears’ Week 14 matchup:

1. Mitchell Trubisky passes for 300-plus yards for 2nd straight week

Leon Halip/Getty Images

Given the fact that it took Mitchell Trubisky 10 games to finally throw for more than 300 yards, this is certainly a bold prediction considering the Bears offense has been a massive disappointment aside from last Thursday.

Against the Lions, Trubisky completed 29-of-38 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. It was the first time all season you saw him slinging the football down the field, where he found Anthony Miller for 140 yards.

While the Cowboys defense certainly isn’t the Lions defense, Trubisky is coming off his best game of the season and is bringing that confidence back to Soldier Field for some Thursday night action. If Matt Nagy allows Trubisky to just go out there and play, we could see a repeat of last week in terms of yardage.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 13 matchup vs. Lions

Will Mitchell Trubisky replicate his performance? Will Eddie Jackson get his first INT this season? Our Bears bold predictions vs. Lions.

The Chicago Bears (5-6) are looking to extend their winning streak to two when they face off against the struggling Detroit Lions (3-7-1) on Thanksgiving.

The Bears are looking to complete the season sweep against the Lions, as they defeated Detroit 20-13 in their first meeting three weeks ago. But Chicago will have to do it shorthanded, as they have six players already ruled out for Thursday’s game.

Here are four bold predictions for the Bears’ Week 13 matchup:

1. Mitchell Trubisky replicates 3-TD performance vs. Lions

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Mitchell Trubisky has historically played well against the Detroit Lions in his career. He has an eight to three touchdown to interception ratio with a 68% completion, a 102.0 passer rating and an average of 7.9 yards per attempt, all numbers that rank better than his career numbers.

Factor in the fact the Lions defense is playing at its worst, most recently losing to the Dwayne Haskins-led Redskins. Then there’s that fact that one of Trubisky’s best games this season came just three weeks ago against the Lions, where he tossed three touchdowns.

Considering the Lions defense hasn’t improved much since their last meeting — and the Bears offense is looking to build off their third quarter success — Trubisky could be in for his best game this season, complete with a repeat three-touchdown performance.
