4 takeaways from the Bears’ blowout loss to the Chiefs

Here are our takeaways following the Bears’ 41-10 loss to the Chiefs.

A bad week for the Chicago Bears ended in one of the worst ways possible after they dropped their Week 3 matchup to the Kansas City Chiefs 41-10. The score truly doesn’t do this game justice as the Chiefs were up 31-0 at halftime thanks to timely plays from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as well as costly turnovers by the Bears. It was over at halftime and the final two quarters were merely a formality as the Chiefs pulled their starters midway through the third quarter.

For the Bears, quarterback Justin Fields failed to eclipse 100-yards passing, going 11-of-22 for 99 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It was another dreadful outing despite the additional quarterback rollouts and designed runs that were added after Fields expressed his desire to simplify things earlier in the week.

On defense, the Bears couldn’t get pressure on Mahomes and allowed him to pick apart the secondary with three touchdowns. The Chiefs broke out of their offensive slump and looked like their old selves once again. Playing the Bears can do that for a team.

The Bears are now 0-3 for the first time since 2016 and the hope from the offseason has completely vanished for the majority of the fanbase. Here are our takeaways from yet another miserable loss.

Bears fans are ready to fire Matt Eberflus after this loss to the Chiefs

It’s not even October yet, but the 2023 Bears season might already be over. That has fans ready to move on from head coach Matt Eberflus.

It’s not even October yet, but the 2023 Chicago Bears season might already be over, and that has fans ready to move on from head coach Matt Eberflus. The Bears wrapped up a tumultuous week with one of the worst losses in recent memory, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 41-10 to begin the season 0-3 and give Eberflus an overall record of 3-17 since he was hired as head coach. The defense was dominated by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense until the starters were pulled midway through the third quarter.

The Bears offense, meanwhile, continued to play with very little rhythm and had costly turnovers that turned this game from a lopsided affair to a complete blowout before halftime. Their first points didn’t come until the fourth quarter, and no one seemed interested in playing out the rest of the afternoon. That lies with the coaching staff, and Bears fans have already seen enough from them to want a change.

During and after the game, Bears fans took to social media to express their disdain for the team’s early-season failures. The general message? Fire Eberflus and the coaching staff.

5 bold predictions for Bears vs. Chiefs

Justin Fields returns to his old self, Roschon Johnson breaks out, and Matt Nagy gets cute in our bold predictions for Bears vs. Chiefs.

The NFL’s best takes on the NFL’s worst this Sunday, at least if you’re still paying attention to last year’s results. The Chicago Bears (0-2), who had the worst record in 2022, travel west to take on reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.

For the Bears, it’s a chance to right the ship and, in a weird way, get back to a sense of normalcy. Chicago has had one of the strangest weeks any NFL team has had in recent memory, with comments made by Justin Fields that shined a negative light on the coaching staff, the sudden resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams, and equipment getting stolen from Soldier Field. Suiting up to play a football game might be just what they need.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, have had a slow start to the season but still have plenty of talent across the board to remain a powerhouse in the AFC. This matchup against the Bears could be just the push they need to break out of their funk. Or could the Bears defy all odds and shock the world with a victory at Arrowhead Stadium?

Whatever happens, we’re in for a ride, one way or another. Here are our bold predictions for Sunday’s game.

More than $100K of maintenance equipment stolen from Soldier Field

What else could go wrong for the Bears this week?

The hits keep on coming for the Chicago Bears this week. According to a manager at Soldier Field, approximately $100,000 worth of equipment was stolen sometime Wednesday night. The news was first reported by ABC7 Chicago.

The manager said the stolen equipment includes John Deere Gator utility vehicles and lawnmowers used to prepare the field. The equipment was taken from one of the parking structures at the stadium, and the thieves took down a security fence to drive the mowers and Gators out of the garage. According to ESPN, the equipment was the property of a contractor and not the Bears. The equipment has yet to be located.

The Bears haven’t played at Soldier Field since their Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 10. They’re playing another away game this week when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs, so fortunately the stolen equipment won’t make an impact. They return to the lakefront next week to take on the Denver Broncos.

It’s just another odd story to add to the growing list of issues facing the Bears this week. After their Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago has been in the media for everything under the sun. First there were comments made by Justin Fields regarding the coaching staff that gained traction. Then there was the sudden resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams, about which nobody at Halas Hall can speak. And now equipment has been stolen at the stadium.

What else can go wrong for the Bears this week? We probably shouldn’t ask that because, at this point, anything can happen.

5 Kansas City Chiefs players to watch vs. Bears

Here are the Chiefs players we’ll be watching when the Bears travel to Kansas City.

The Chicago Bears (0-2) face their toughest test of the 2023 season to date this weekend when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs (1-1). The reigning Super Bowl champions haven’t had the explosive start to the season as they have been accustomed to, but with stars all over the field and head coach Andy Reid running a tight ship, it’s only a matter of time until they get things right.

That very well could come against the Bears, who have struggled mightily to start the season. Head coach Matt Eberflus has his work cut out for him as he looks to get things back on track, especially after a tumultuous week at Halas Hall. Planning for the Chiefs seems like the least of his worries, but he’ll need to keep tabs on these five players heading into the game.

Who to take in Week 3 in your NFL survivor pool

Breaking down the best strategies of how to win your NFL survivor pool as the season continues into Week 3.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

We went with another easy selection in Week 2 of the NFL survivor pool with the Dallas Cowboys, our 2nd week with a comfortable win after the choosing Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

We will have to look at teams who are likely to be involved in closer games in Week 3. The San Francisco 49ers are a great play if the Thursday Night Football game is available in your pool, but in case it’s not, let’s look at who you should take Sunday in Week 3.

The chalk: Miami Dolphins

Who they play: Home vs. Denver Broncos – 1 p.m. (CBS)

The Broncos continue to search for their 1st win of the season after dropping their 1st 2 games at home.

Miami finally gets its home opener after topping the Los Angeles Chargers 36-34 and the New England Patriots 24-17 on the road in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively.

QB Tua Tagovailoa has been stellar so far in 2023 with 715 yards and 4 touchdowns through 2 games. Coach Mike McDaniel will always utilize a run-first offense, and despite Tagovailoa playing at an MVP level out of the gate, he has still used RB Raheem Mostert to the tune of 28 carries for 158 yards and 3 TD through the first 2 games.

Miami has thrived despite OL Terron Armstead missing both games as OL Austin Jackson has provided a much-needed lift for the offensive line. If Tagovailoa remains healthy, the Dolphins are looking like the team to beat in the AFC East.

The Broncos and QB Russell Wilson are still struggling. After blowing a 17-point lead in a 35-33 home loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 2, the Broncos will need to find consistency on both sides of the ball to have a chance against the Dolphins Sunday.

Miami is the better team and despite Denver losing its 2 games by a combined 3 points, this game will show how much better the Dolphins are — and how far coach Sean Payton must go with Denver.

MIAMI is my TOP SURVIVOR POOL SELECTION for Week 3.

No. 2 option: Kansas City Chiefs

Who they play: Home vs. Chicago Bears – 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

Courtney Cronin of ESPN reports that Bears QB Justin Fields was not happy with his play in a 27-17 Week 2 loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fields reportedly compared his play to being too robotic. This does not bode well for a team in Chicago that has less talent than most teams in the NFL and will be facing the most talented player in the league, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

While Kansas City has struggled in going 1-1 to start the season, Mahomes will overwhelm a disappointing Bears defense. Chicago allowed 6 receptions for 171 yards and 1 TD to WR Mike Evans as well as 5 receptions for 58 yards to WR Chris Godwin in Week 2.

The Chiefs limited the Jacksonville Jaguars to just 9 points in Week 2 and get to return home for this matchup — this time with TE Travis Kelce healthy and ready to play. RB Isiah Pacheco missed practice Wednesday, but his absence will not be the difference in a win here. Instead, this will just add more fuel to the “Mahomes to Kelce” fire.

The Bears will not go winless this season, but this will not be the week to take them to win a game.

WATCH: Bears WR Dazz Newsome finds the endzone against the Chiefs

WATCH: Bears WR Dazz Newsome finds the endzone against the Chiefs

An offensive explosion has erupted for the Chicago Bears in the second half of their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. After finally finding the endzone thanks to a pass from quarterback Trevor Siemian to running back Trestan Ebner, the offense came right back for another score.

Siemian led the Bears on a seven-play drive that was capped off by a beautiful pass to wide receiver Dazz Newsome in the corner of the endzone. The catch was Newsome’s first of the day, going for 13 yards. Siemian, meanwhile, has thrown two touchdowns on the day and has a quarterback rating of 115.1.

The score put the Bears within one point at 14-13, but thanks to another Chiefs turnover, the offense got the ball back and kicker Cairo Santos added a field goal to make it 16-13 as the third quarter starts to wind down.

The Bears are on the board against the Chiefs thanks to rookie RB Trestan Ebner

It took until the third quarter, but the Chicago Bears are finally on the board against the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason opener thanks to rookie running back Trestan Ebner.

The Bears, quarterbacked by backup Trevor Siemian, found themselves with a short field following an interception by undrafted rookie Jack Sanborn. Siemian took advantage, firing a quick strike to Ebner out of the backfield, who darted into the endzone for the score.

Ebner was drafted in the sixth round out of Baylor in the 2022 NFL Draft and has seen plenty of touches on the day. He has six carries for 31 yards and one catch for 12 yards that went for the score. Ebner also had a chance to score the two-point conversion after Kansas City had too many men on the field during the extra point, but he was stuffed at the goal line.

The Bears currently trail the Chiefs 14-6 midway through the third quarter.

WATCH: Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney connect for a deep pass against Chiefs

WATCH: Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney connect for a deep pass against the Chiefs

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney is making highlight grabs at Soldier Field two times in one week. After the Bears top wideout made a one-handed catch at Family Fest on Tuesday, Mooney followed it up with another impressive highlight, this time in an actual game.

During the preseason opener between the Bears and the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter, Justin Fields connected with Mooney a leaping grab over cornerback L’Jarius Sneed for a 26-yard gain.

Fields and Mooney have been working tirelessly together this offseason and their chemistry on the field is evident. Expect more of the same when the season begins next month.

At the end of the first quarter, the Bears trail the Chiefs 7-0 but are driving with the first-team offense.

5 Rookies to watch in the Bears’ preseason opener vs. Chiefs

Keep an eye on these rookies when the Bears face off against the Kansas City Chiefs.

We’re just a few hours away until the Chicago Bears play their first preseason game of the season when they welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to town. While preseason games don’t mean much in the grand scheme of the NFL season, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a feel for how the team looks and evaluate certain players, particularly rookies.

For the Bears 2022 draft class, this will be the first major test for them as they begin their NFL careers. High draft picks such as cornerback Kyler Gordon and Velus Jones Jr. aren’t expected to play due to injuries, but the Bears aren’t short on rookies that might make an impact early on. Here are five rookies to watch when the Bears take on the Chiefs.
