Why Baylor Will Win

The combination of a balanced offense and decent enough run defense might be enough to pull this off.

The Bears might have stalled in the 31-3 loss to Kansas State, but they came back to push TCU to the brink in last week’s crazy 29-28 loss on a walk-off field goal. Even so, the O continues to be great on third downs to keep everything moving.

Baylor is terrific at dominating the clock – it did that against TCU and keeps the ball for over 32 minutes. Texas doesn’t care about the time of possession battle and will probably lose by well over five minutes.

And then there’s the run defense. Texas is 4-0 when running for more than 205 yards and 3-4 when it doesn’t. More to the point, the three wins when the running game didn’t rock came against teams that aren’t going bowling.

Baylor allowed more than 205 rushing yards just twice so far, but …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Texas Will Win

Yeah, that Bijan Robinson guy is pretty good.

He was stuffed by TCU for 29 yards, and came back roaring with 243 yards and four scores in what seemed like just a few minutes in the blowout win over Kansas last week. That was his second 200-yard game in the last three and his eighth with over 100 yards in his last nine.

Baylor’s defense was amazing against the run over the first half of the season, but it had a few issues in Big 12 play allowing over four yards per carry in each of the last four games. It’s also 2-4 this season when giving up over three yards per run.

Alabama and TCU. Those are the only two teams to hold Texas to under three yards per carry.

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Texas will play in the Big 12 Championship with a win and a Kansas State loss to Kansas. It’ll take care of the first part of that itself.

Baylor will once again be dangerous, but it’ll struggle defensively late as the Longhorn passing game does enough to balance out the attack – the Bear D will sell out to stop Robinson.

Baylor is 1-5 when allowing more than 24 points. Texas was held to under 24 by – again – Alabama and TCU.

Baylor vs Texas Game Preview

Why Baylor Will Win

The Bears continue to scuffle a little bit – the consistency isn’t there – but they’ve been able to win three straight including a relatively dominant win over Kansas.

They’re doing a great job on the move, moving the ball around as well as any team in the Big 12, and they shoot threes a whole lot better than they have over the last few games.

They rolled over Texas a few weeks ago by hitting 50% from the field, rolling on the free throw line, and pulling off a great defensive performance that didn’t allow much of anything easy.

But …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Texas Will Win

Texas has been on fire from the outside at times and has done an amazing job of generating second chance points over the last few weeks.

No, the threes were there in the win over TCU – the Longhorns hit just 1-of-14 shots from the outside – but still won owning the interior and going up with 13 offensive rebounds.

They followed up the TCU game by hitting 63% from the field and going off from three. It all has to work to beat Baylor.

They’ve only lost twice at home, and both times were a tad strange. Texas Tech shut down the Longhorns cold, and Kansas State hung around and pulled survived a low-scoring fight.

And …

What’s Going To Happen

Texas is killing it on defense.

It’s fourth in the nation in scoring D, it’s allowing teams to hist just 41% from the field, and it’s doing an amazing job when it comes to not turning the ball over.

Again, it all has to work to get by a Baylor team that’s attacking and stepping up its own defensive game.

This is going to be fun.

Why Baylor Will Win

The Bears keep on playing at the high level of a No. 1 team, ripping through the Big 12 and then flexing some muscle with a 12-point win over Auburn on Saturday to show just how real this all is.

The offense struggled against the Tigers, but the defense was a rock when it needed to be, and again, it was yet another easy win. The Bears are still terrific from three – they lead the nation hitting over 43% from the outside – they move the ball around better than just about anyone to get those threes, and the D is great at taking the ball away.

Texas doesn’t force errors, but …

Why Texas Will Win

The Longhorns are amazing at defending the three – they lead the Big 12 at three-point D.

It’s the one team that can not only bother them from three, but can provide a big push on the boards at both ends. The defense has to take over for stretches.

The offense is streaky. It’s a good shooting team overall, and it can get hot from three, but it’s all about the defense. The Longhorns are going to bother the Bears more than anyone else has, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Baylor is playing at a whole other level.

Texas has the D and the pressure to keep this from getting out of hand, but even when pressed, Baylor has a way of going on that one big spurt needed to get by.

Texas doesn’t shoot well enough, it gets hit with way too many fouls, and it’ll turn the ball over just enough to ruin a brilliant day from the defense.

Texas Football: Longhorns social media buzz ahead of kickoff

Gameday is finally upon us with the Baylor Bears and Texas Longhorns set to play at 2:30 CDT. What is the buzz around social media

Gameday is finally upon us with the Baylor Bears visiting the Texas Longhorns. Both teams coming in off a bye, and both coming in off losses in overtime. This isn’t exactly a must win game for Baylor but you can make the argument for it.

For Texas it definitely has the feel of a must win game. While Baylor is in the first year of the Dave Aranda era, the Longhorns are halfway through year four of the Tom Herman Era. Fans are growing restless as it seems the same issues popping up week after week, year after year.

Hopefully a change in uniform can start this team trending in the right direction. The Longhorns will wear white jerseys at home for the first time since 1950. If that is what it  takes for the home team to kickstart a run then so be it.

As Deion Sanders once said “look good, feel good, play good.” You can’t deny that these throwbacks look really good. It is definitely one jersey combination that should be a regular in the rotation, especially if they win wearing them.

Sports superstitions and such, it means a lot to some. Let’s see how it all goes down for the Longhorns on Saturday.

Texas vs. Baylor: Three areas of concern for the Longhorns

Three primary concerns for Texas as they prepare to face Baylor in Austin on Oct. 24.

Texas recently suffered back-to-back conference losses to unranked teams. Needless to say, there’s numerous areas of concern for the Longhorns as they hope to get back into the win column against Baylor. Continue reading “Texas vs. Baylor: Three areas of concern for the Longhorns”

Report: Baylor Bears have no new COVID-19 cases

The best news for the Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears game on Saturday came out on Monday. Baylor reporting no new coronavirus cases.

On Saturday the Texas Longhorns will face off  with the Baylor Bears in Austin at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Or at the very least that is the hope. The two teams were on bye weeks for completely different reasons. While the Longhorns were on their second scheduled bye week, the Bear had to halt all football activities. Prior to their game with Oklahoma State it was reports that the Bears had 42 COVID-19 cases.

Despite the number of cases, the school felt it was ok to host their homecoming ceremony at their stadium even with no game to play. Talk about poor optics of the climate in college football. Now for the positive news. According to Morgan Uber of the Big 12 Conference, the Bears have no new positive coronavirus cases after their recent round of testing.

This is the first positive step towards the Bears and Longhorns meeting on the field. Baylor sits (1-1) and the Longhorns come in at (2-2), one of these teams will fall below .500 for the first time this year. One of the big storylines in this game is two Austin native quarterbacks going to battle. Charlie Brewer will look to best Sam Ehlinger for the first time in their hometown. The Bears won 24-10 in Waco last season.
