Wisconsin WBB Big Ten schedule released

After a strong conference season, how many Big Ten games will the Badgers women win?

The 2023-2024 college women’s basketball season is around the corner and the Wisconsin WBB Big Ten schedule was released Thursday. The Badgers are coming off of a 2022-2023 campaign where they went 6-12 in conference matchups, their highest win total since 2010-2011.

Head coach Marisa Moseley is entering her third season at the helm and her squad will look to build off of last year with a slightly different roster. Most notably, Julie Pospisilova (team-high 14.1 PPG), Maty Wilke (transferred to Utah) and Avery LaBarbera (starting point guard in 2022) are no longer part of the team.

Serah Williams was one of the best freshman in the conference last season and she’ll look to improve upon her impressive 12.7 PPG, 5.4 REB and 1.9 BLK that produced in 2022-2023.

WATCH: CFB Report shares highlight reel from legendary game

With Badger fans already on the edge of their seats ahead of the 2023 season, the College Football Report got them even more fired up Friday.

With Badger fans already on the edge of their seats ahead of the 2023 season, the College Football Report got them even more fired up Friday. They tweeted out a highlight reel from Wisconsin’s 70-31 Big Ten Championship victory over Nebraska.

In that contest, three legendary running backs (Montee Ball, James White, Melvin Gordon) produced some insane stat lines, as seen below. All three of the athletes went on to the NFL, two of which, White (3x) and Gordon (2023) have won Super Bowls.

Ball-carriers like these guys have made it hard to ignore Wisconsin as the potential “running back university” and stars like Jonathan Taylor and Braelon Allen have followed in their footsteps in recent years.

Badgers’ September schedule all set for 2023 football season

What does the broadcast schedule look like for Badger football in September?

The Wisconsin Badgers’ football season is on the horizon and all of the broadcast times have been set for the month of September. Heading into their first season under Luke Fickell, the Badgers are ushering in a new era of football in Madison.

After a disappointing 7-6 campaign in 2022 that included the firing of head coach Paul Chryst, interim head coach and defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard also walked out the door. On top of that, offensive coordinator Bobby Engram never gelled and has also moved on ahead of 2023.

Hitting the reset button, athletic director Chris McIntosh brought in Fickell from Cincinnati, who in turn, was joined in Madison by offensive coordinator Phil Longo (UNC) and defensive coordinator Mike Tressel (Cincinnati).

On top of the coaching changes, over a dozen athletes transferred to Madison, most notably former four-star quarterback Tanner Mordecai (SMU).

Here’s how their opening month shakes out:

What years would Wisconsin have made the expanded College Football Playoff?

What years would the Badgers have made an expanded playoff?

College Football Playoff expansion is once again upon us, and the latest move could mean Wisconsin vying for playoff spots year in and year out.

Beginning in the 2024-25 season, the College Football Playoff is going to a 12-team field. More teams, more chaos, and more chances for Wisconsin to get into the field.

If we look historically, what years would Wisconsin have made an expanded playoff based on their final rankings? Since the start of the BCS era in 1998, Wisconsin has had 8 teams finish at 12 or better in the final rankings. Since 1998, here are the Badger teams that would have been in an expanded field;

Report: Paul Chryst out as Wisconsin head coach

Report: Paul Chryst is out at Wisconsin

After a 2-3 start to the 2022 campaign, Paul Chryst has been let go as Wisconsin’s head coach.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg via Twitter on Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard will assume interim head coaching duties as the Badgers prepare to face Northwestern on Saturday.

Chryst had been Wisconsin’s head coach since 2015, and racked up a 67-26 record as the head of the Badgers program. The slow start to the 2022 campaign coupled with a few years of the team underperforming preseason expectations spelled the end of the Paul Chryst era in Madison.

Wisconsin will begin a national coaching search, but interim head coach Jim Leonhard will likely have as good a chance as anyone to be the next official head coach.

Ranking Big Ten quarterbacks by PFF grade through Week 2

Where do the Big Ten quarterbacks rank?

After a wild week in college football, where do the Big Ten quarterbacks stand?

If you had told Badger fans that Wisconsin was going to be upset by Washington State in Week 2, everyone would have immediately thought that Graham Mertz struggled mightily. It was quite the opposite for the Kansas native, as Mertz had one of his better games on Saturday despite the upset defeat.

Around the conference, J.J. McCarthy appears to have taken the starting job at Michigan, while Evan Simon is likely the long-term starter at Rutgers. Where did Pro Football Focus rank the Big Ten quarterbacks this week? Here is a look:

Wisconsin football’s complete Week 1 defensive depth chart

The Badgers defensive depth chart in Week 1

It may be a cast of many new characters for Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, but there is still every reason to believe that the Badgers can once again build one of the nation’s best defenses.

Wisconsin will be relying heavily on transfers in the secondary, headlined by UCLA transfer cornerback Jay Shaw and Kentucky transfer Cedric Dort.

The Badger do have returning stars along the defensive line led by senior leader Keeanu Benton. The overall star of this Wisconsin defense? Junior linebacker Nick Herbig who will be tasked with a little bit of everything for the Badger group. Here is a look at the Week 1 defensive depth chart that the Badgers put out this morning:

Every game on Wisconsin football’s nonconference schedule through 2033

A look at Wisconsin’s nonconference schedule for the next decade

College football scheduling works well in advance, as teams set home and home matchups years ahead of time.

The Badgers have the toughest home and home battle you can ask for already on the schedule. Alabama will pay Wisconsin a visit on September 14, 2024, with the Badgers paying a return visit to the Crimson Tide the following season.

Wisconsin also has a home and home set with UCLA, Washington State, and Pittsburgh. This season, the Badgers play all three nonconference games at home, as they take on Illinois State, Washington State, and New Mexico State at Camp Randall.

Here is a look at every game on Wisconsin’s nonconference schedule through 2033:

Report: Wisconsin emerges as a potential destination for Caleb Williams

The Badgers emerge as a potential destination for Caleb Williams per a report from On3 sports’ Gerry Hamilton

Wisconsin is in the mix for the consensus No. 1 player in the transfer portal and that player is a quarterback? Yes, you read that headline right.

According to On3 Sports’ Gerry Hamilton, the Badgers are in play for Oklahoma transfer quarterback Caleb Williams. Previous reports had named LSU and USC as the final two destinations for the Heisman candidate, but Hamilton has Wisconsin in firm contention.

As a freshman at Oklahoma, Williams threw for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also ran for six touchdowns and 442 rushing yards. With Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC, Williams decided to enter the portal.

While landing the nation’s top QB transfer, and former No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021 has never been Wisconsin’s brand, it appears the Badgers are fully in play for the most exciting transfer in the country.

The current Wisconsin quarterback room features two players with game experience in Graham Mertz, who has started the past two seasons for the Badgers, and Chase Wolf, who has seen action in relief.

The Badgers also have class of 2021 signee Deacon Hill and incoming 2022 signee Myles Burkett in the mix.

Williams would not only be the consensus highest-rated quarterback recruit to step foot on campus as a Badger, but the highest-rated player to ever suit up for Wisconsin in the modern recruiting era.

Three reasons why Wisconsin RB Chez Mellusi’s debut was even more impressive than it looked

Chez Mellusi’s debut was even better than the box score showed:

While the numbers still looked good for Clemson transfer RB Chez Mellusi in his Wisconsin debut, the box score doesn’t do the performance justice.

After questions about who would emerge as the clear RB1 for Wisconsin, it was Mellusi who handled the workload of a workhorse back. He carried the ball 31 times in Wisconsin’s 16-10 loss to Penn State, totaling 121 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Those 31 carries were more than Mellusi had during the entire 2020 season at Clemson, as his body was ready for more of a responsibility.

“I had a really big summer, just weightlifting wise, getting my body, right, knowing that this is a little different offense than I’m used to,” said Mellusi after the game. “I was pretty prepared.”

The circumstances of the game, however, made everything Mellusi did all the more impressive. Here are three reasons why the transfer RB’s debut was even better than it looks on paper:
