Emily Carosone returns to Auburn as assistant coach

The former Auburn player holds many records.

Former Auburn softball legend Emily Carosone will return to Auburn as an assistant coach. The announcement was made public on Wednesday by head coach Mickey Dean.

Coach Dean on the Carosone hire:

“We are excited to have Emily join our staff as a full-time member…she has earned this opportunity as a player and as our volunteer assistant for the last three seasons.”

Carosone left Auburn before the 2020 season start to begin training with the Italian National Team for the Tokyo Olympics. Prior to her departure she served as a graduate assistant in 2017 and the program’s volunteer assistant in 2018-2019.

She’s Auburn’s all-time leader in five categories, per auburntigers.com they are as follows: career batting average (.406), hits (285), runs (267), on-base percentage (.534) and hit by pitches (85). Carosone is a three-time All-American whose defensive performances and leadership helped clinch the 2015 and 2016 SEC Softball Tournament titles. She also helped the Tigers advance to the 2015 and 2016 Women’s College World Series.

“I’m excited to be back with the Auburn Family,” Carosone said. “There’s no other place I’d rather be.”

Carosone was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch Draft. She has playing experience with the Chicago Bandits, Cleveland Comets, and USSSA Pride. While her journey to the Olympics has been postponed, her return to Auburn is welcomed with open arms!

We’re glad to have you back, Coach Carosone!

Toomer’s Drugs reinvents lemonade with a summertime twist

This will help fans chill down on hot college football Saturdays.

Picture this: it’s a mid-afternoon, summertime game day in Auburn. You have people to see and tailgates to attend, but with a heat index near triple digits you’re in survival mode until game time.

Gentlemen, the ice in your cooler is melting and your shirt isn’t as crisp as it was an hour ago. Ladies, there isn’t enough setting spray in the world to keep your makeup on, but your hair looks great in that ponytail!

I’m speaking from personal experience here. I was at Jordan Hare in 2014 when Auburn played against Arkansas. That same week the university posted heat safety precautions for fans to follow. By the third quarter the stadium had run out of bottled water. Don’t even get me started on LSU 2018.

What if I told you that Toomer’s Drugs has concocted a refreshing remedy?

On Monday morning, Toomer’s Drugs took to Instagram to announce an exciting new twist on a timeless classic. It’s Toomer’s lemonade, but frozen! Yep, fans can now get frozen lemonade with or without added flavors. It may not be a pill that makes you stop sweating, but it sure is a delicious treat to help cool you down.

I don’t know about y’all, but a 200-mile road trip for slushies looks pretty fun right about now.

Auburn fans recall their favorite concerts held at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum

Beard-Eaves has seen some major acts come through over the years.

Beard Eaves Memorial Coliseum opened up on January 11, 1969 with a historic win over an LSU team led by Pistol Pete Maravich.

It also survived 45 years of concerts, many of them turning into cherished memories for Auburn fans everywhere. In its early days the Coliseum saw acts like Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones. The Coliseum went out rocking with Dierks Bentley and Rascall Flatts back in 2014.

Before we begin reminiscing its important to note that I was not able to obtain the dates for each of these artists. If your favorite artist is mentioned without a year please feel free to give us a shout-out!

Cam Newton’s younger brother is transferring to Auburn

The Tigers have a Newton again.

The Auburn Tigers have themselves a new Newton on board 10 years after Cam led the Auburn Tigers to a BCS National Championship out of nowhere.

This time, it’s his brother Caylin. In the midst of a rough final season as the Bison quarterback, he announced he’d be transferring once the season was over. Newton only played in four games for the Bison in the 2019-20 season. He graduated from Howard but still has two years of eligibility left.

The newly minted Tigers’ quarterback announced his final transfer decision on Friday night via Twitter.

Newton finished his Howard career with 58 total touchdowns and 32 interceptions. Certainly, he isn’t his brother, but Auburn sure will take him.

Matt Patricia takes special interest in Auburn WR Will Hastings

Matt Patricia takes a special interest in Auburn WR Will Hastings, a converted walk-on kicker

Auburn’s football program is loaded with some top-end talents for the 2020 NFL Draft. But the Tigers go deeper than Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson and Noah Igbinoghene, who are all likely top-50 overall selections.

Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia was prominent at Auburn’s pro day on Friday. Notably, he was the first coach in the door to the indoor practice facility. Patricia, who was joined by Lions GM Bob Quinn on the trip, was prominent in several videos on social media showing workouts of DTs Brown and Davidson. But he also paid attention to a lesser-known Tigers prospect.

Patricia was personally introduced to slot receiver Will Hastings by Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. Hastings has quite a story, too.

The 5-foot-10, 174-pounder began his Auburn career as a walk-on kicker before moving to wide receiver in his sophomore season of 2016. He missed all of 2018 with two separate knee injuries. Hastings caught just 19 passes in 2019.

That doesn’t sound like an optimal draft candidate, but this is the exact kind of player those followers of the Patriot Way gravitate towards. Gritty, smart, insatiable work ethic, versatile, those are all apt descriptions of Hastings.

He’s extremely unlikely to be selected but if the 2020 NFL Draft ends and you see Will Hastings signing with the Lions as a free agent, remember this pro day.

Bob Quinn, Matt Patricia present at Auburn’s pro day

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia are both in attendance at Auburn’s pro day to check out their 2020 NFL Draft prospects.

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia are both in attendance at Auburn’s pro day to check out their 2020 NFL Draft prospects, according to a report from NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkabwala.

Quinn and Patricia don’t always travel together to pro days but they will often make the trip to bigger universities — Alabama, Auburn Clemson, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State — that have either a wealth of talent or a player at the top of the draft that they will heavily consider selecting in the first round.

As our own Jeff Risdon pointed out this morning, defensive tackle Derrick Brown may be the headliner at today’s events, but there’s a lot more talent on the field that should draw the Lions’ interests.

[lawrence-related id=39280]

With the 2020 free agency period set to begin on March 18th, the Lions can scout several more pro days before the overlap begins. Oklahoma is hosting its pro day on March 11th, Clemson on March 12th, Michigan on March 13th, Penn State March 17th and all have prospects the Lions will consider in the first three rounds of the draft.

Other important pro dates that Quinn and Patricia could attend include, Iowa on March 23rd, Alabama on March 24th, Ohio State March 25th, Utah March 26th, and LSU on April 3rd. Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailova will have a private workout on April 9th, that the Lions will also surely attend.

Auburn’s pro day about more than just Derrick Brown for the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions will be checking out several 2020 NFL Draft prospects at Auburn’s Pro Day on March 6

The Auburn Tigers are hosting their prospect pro day on Friday, March 6. The Detroit Lions applied for credentials and are expected to have a contingent in Alabama to check out several future NFL players on hand.

Derrick Brown gets all the headlines, but the defensive tackle is not the only Tigers player the Lions should have an interest in drafting in 2020. Brown figures to be a consideration for the team’s first-round pick, particularly if Detroit is able to engineer a trade back a few spots from the No. 3 overall position they currently sit.

Brown’s linemate, Marlon Davidson, is a Day 2 prospect with a lot of juice and personality. He stood out at the Senior Bowl practices on the South roster (the Lions coached the North) before being shut down with a minor injury. Davidson didn’t do the full combine workout, and the Lions will be interested in how the four-year starter tests in the explosion drills (broad jump, vertical jump). He plays both inside and out at 303 pounds, a good fit for how the Lions deploy their D-linemen.

Cornerback Noah Igbinoghene is another potential Day 2 pick for the Lions…if he lasts to the second round. The son of two Olympic sprinters, Igbinoghene (pronounced IG-bin-OG-a-nee) is a converted wide receiver who took a big step in his defensive mindset in 2019. He loves to press and get into the faces and chests of receivers, and his turn-and-run gear can keep up with just about anyone. He needs work on his lower-body technique, but showed real improvement as 2019 progressed.

Another CB, Javaris Davis, fits the exact profile the Lions desire in the slot. He’s plucky, physical, tackles well and has excellent top-end speed. He raised his stock with a good Senior Bowl week and is considered a 5th-6th round talent.

Georgia football injury report for UGA vs Auburn game

UGA football is banged up heading into the Georgia vs Auburn football game.

The No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs are coming off of a 27-0 smackdown of Missouri, as well as a massive win over Florida the week prior.Β  The Dawgs have been rolling with a three game win streak since the hiccup of South Carolina.

Approaching week 12 comes Georgia’s biggest game thus far, a chance to secure its 3rd straight trip to the SEC Championship.

Auburn is currently ranked No. 12 with a record of 7-2, 4-2 in SEC. Its two loss season is not to be overlooked as the Tigers lost close games at No. 10 Florida and No. 1 LSU.

Last weekend vs Missouri, Georgia won, but it came at cost. The Dawgs lost a few players to injuries throughout the game, but for the most part nothing looks too serious.

Here’s a look at the Dawgs injury report prior to the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Full injury report:

Probable: WR Lawrence Cager

Cager aggravated his shoulder last game and did not return.Β  The Dawgs leading receiver has been practicing this week and is expected to play on Saturday.Β  Having Cager against Auburn will be crucial, as he has become Fromm’s favorite target this season.

Probable: WR Tyler Simmons

Simmons’ shoulder has been bothering for a majority of the season but he should be good to go.

Probable: OL Cade Mays

Mays left the Missouri game with a hurt ankle but has indicated that he is fine.

Probable: CB Tyson Campbell

Campbell missed a significant chunk of the season with turf toe but played vs Missouri and said he felt great out there.
