Kentucky baseball ranked number two in USA TODAY Sports coaches poll

The Kentucky baseball team finishes the regular season ranked number two in the coaches poll.

The Kentucky baseball team may have lost its last regular season game to Vanderbilt, but they took that final series, and finished in a tie for first place in the SEC. As a result, they still climbed another spot in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll, up to number two in the country.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 39 – 12 overall record. They came in behind only the Tennessee Volunteers in the top 25, though Kentucky did receive one first place vote.

The SEC dominated the final regular season poll, as it did all season. The top four teams were all from the conference, and five of the top ten were were SEC opponents. That makes Kentucky’s 22 – 8 conference record even more impressive.

Up next for the Cats is the SEC Tournament. They will meet the LSU Tigers in the opening round. After that will be the NCAA Regionals. Kentucky is predicted to be the top overall seed by many.
