The No. 10 seed Miami Hurricanes (24-10) meet the No. 2 seed Auburn Tigers (28-5) in the second round of the Midwest Region. Tip from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C., is set for 7:45 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we look at the Miami vs. Auburn odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes took down seventh-seeded USC in the first round. They escaped with a 68-66 victory, covering as 2-point underdogs.

Miami is 19-14-1 against the spread (ATS) this season. Outside of Duke’s 1-0 ATS record as an underdog, the Hurricanes were a conference-best 10-2 ATS as dogs this season.

As for the Tigers, who rank No. 7 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports, they defeated the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 80-61 in the first round, covering as 14-point favorites.

Auburn is led by potential NBA Draft top-three pick F Jabari Smith, who averages 17.2 points per game. Smith scored a team-high 20 points, including hitting four 3’s, in the first-round victory. Auburn is 20-13 ATS this season.

PASS.

The only playable side is the Hurricanes (+250), but I like the Tigers (-320) to win, mainly due to their size advantage. Miami’s high-ceiling offense should help keep this game interesting though.

Against the spread

LEAN to MIAMI +7.5 (-120).

Had this line been around 4.5 or 5.5, I’d likely have a different opinion, but 7.5 is too many points for a team that’s consistently hung around with good opponents.

Miami beat both Duke and UNC in the regular season and then covered in a 4-point loss to Duke in the ACC Tournament.

Two of Miami’s top-three scorers are seniors, and two of their top six scoring options stand 6-foot-9 or taller. So, the ‘Canes will at least have some size to deal with the Tigers’ Smith and F Walker Kessler.

Both teams have covered at a high rate this season, so it’s just a lean here.

Over/Under

BET the OVER 144.5 (-107).

Smith is a legit NBA player. He makes shots most don’t think about attempting, and his length and size have helped him create easy shots for himself.

He’s a key reason why Auburn is 19-14 O/U. It even covered the 140 O/U line against Jacksonville State despite the Gamecocks scoring just 61.

Miami should be able to keep pace with Auburn behind senior G Kameron McGusty,who is averaging 17.4 per game on 47.2% shooting.

Miami is 20-14 O/U and ranks 83rd in the nation with 74.9 points per game, also sitting top 30 in shooting. Miami has the 18th-ranked adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom, sitting 148th in defensive efficiency.

Auburn is respectively 23rd and seventh.

Auburn is 40th in adjusted tempo, so while its defense may be better, the pace should help Miami get more transition opportunities in which its plethora of attack-minded guards can expose.

Overall, considering the trends for strengths of both teams, the Over is the best bet in this game.

They have covered 5 straight and 6 of their last 7, and are 12-7 ATS in SEC games.

Auburn, which went 15-3 in conference play to win the regular-season crown, is 10-7-1 ATS against SEC opponents. Overall, the Tigers are 19-12 ATS but were just 2-7 ATS over their last 9 outings.

I’ll do without predicting that No. 8 upsets the No. 1, but at the same time, there’s no chance one should consider betting Auburn’s -500 money line in March. Look to the points for value.

Against the spread

LEAN to TEXAS A&M +9.5 (-120).

These two SEC teams only met once this season with the Tigers rolling to a 75-58 victory and covering as 12.5-point home favorites Feb. 12. The Tigers held the Aggies to just 19-for-70 (27.1%) shooting.

While Auburn ranks seventh in the nation in opponents’ shooting percentage (38.3%), it allows the 13th-most offensive rebounds per game in the conference. That’s where A&M can keep this game close.

Auburn is 11-4 away from home and 16-0 at home. It has clearly struggled to keep the same dominance when not at Neville Arena.

Given the Tigers’ issues on the offensive glass and their recent inability to cover mixed in with the Aggies’ ability to cover conference games, I prefer playing the underdogs with the points.

Over/Under

BET OVER 140.5 (-107).

If there’s one thing that both teams have been good at this season, it’s hitting the Overs.

The Aggies are 21-10 O/U, while the Tigers are 18-13 O/U. They’re a combined 7-2 O/U on a neutral site. In SEC play, the Aggies are a conference-best 13-6 O/U and the Tigers are 11-7 O/U.

Both the Tigers’ Smith and Aggies’ G Quenton Jackson (14.5 PPG) rank in the top 10 in the SEC in points per game at fifth and 10th, respectively.

The star power should be on display, and from what we’ve seen from each team this season, the Over feels like the best play this game has to offer.

TENNESSEE (-165) is a good play, although a little on the pricey side. Still, if you don’t want to fiddle around with the points, especially against the former No. 1 team Auburn (+133), it’s a good play.

Against the spread

Pick TENNESSEE -3.5 (-105) in this ranked SEC showdown. The Vols are perfect at home this season, and Auburn +3.5 (-120) has shown some fragility on the road lately. The Tigers lost at Florida last Saturday, 63-62, and at Arkansas before that in overtime Feb. 8. And on Feb. 5, Auburn barely scraped by an awful Georgia team. The Tigers have been tremendous at home but easily can be had on the road.

Over/Under

The OVER 139.5 (-110) is the lean here, although make a small-unit play only.

The Over is an impressive 16-4-1 in the past 21 games for Auburn against teams with a winning record, while going 5-1 in the past six outings as a road underdog. The Over is 12-3-1 in the past 16 games for Tennessee against winning teams, too. Based upon the trends, Over is the play here.

Auburn is 7-1 straight up on the road and could’ve easily also lost at Georgia too – the Tigers won 74-72 in Athens Feb. 5. With Florida 11-3 at home, the expensive line (-180) for the higher-ranked Tigers is far too much to take.

Against the spread

BET AUBURN -3.5 (-112).

The Tigers beat Florida handily the first time around, cruising to a 12-point victory (85-73) and cover as 8-point favorites. They were able to do that despite getting just 13 points from Smith.

Also, while Florida has an impressive home record, it hasn’t played many elite teams, losing to both LSU and Alabama by 13 or more. Similarly, Auburn’s recent road losses make this playable as, without them, it could have been a double-figure spread.

Auburn is also a conference-best 9-3-1 ATS in SEC games. Florida is just 4-9 ATS in conference battles. Despite their recent struggles, I’d still side with the Tigers here.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 139.5 (-112).

Florida struggles to score, averaging just 70.0 points per game, but what it does best is defend. The Gators’ 9-4 Under record in SEC games is tops in the league.

Considering Auburn’s offensive prowess and the result of its last meeting, this total will get a nice boost. Also, Auburn shot 44% from 3 in the team teams’ last meeting.

If the Tigers regress to the mean and the Gators continue how they have played all season, expect fewer points.

It’s not my favorite play in the game, so this is just a “lean.” It is a good get-right spot for the Tigers. who should still be considered one of the favorites to win the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers are 11-1 ATS at home. While the Aggies are 6-5 ATS in conference play, the Tigers are an SEC-best 8-3 within conference play.

The Aggies are coming in having failed to cover 3 of their last 4. They also rank 177th in defensive rebounding, one of the Tigers’ main strengths.

Put it all together, and the Tigers should feast at home.

Over/Under

BET OVER 141.5 (-110).

If there’s one thing both teams can do well, it is hit the Over.

The Tigers are 14-10 O/U this season, while the Aggies are 16-7. In conference play, it gets even more remarkable with the Aggies 8-3 O/U and the Tigers 7-4.

While the Aggies haven’t won lately, they’ve played 6 Overs in a row. Auburn is 7-3 O/U in its last 10 games and is 7-5 O/U in home games.

Auburn hasn’t lost since Nov. 24, and its Southeastern Conference victories include wins over well-regarded LSU and Florida. The Tigers are among the best offensive teams in the SEC and are certainly among the top two or three defensive teams in the conference. They take care of the basketball while forcing turnovers at a healthy clip and play at a fast tempo.

Alabama went into this season after losing a couple of key figures from last year’s 26-7 team that bowed out in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. However, the Tide’s first nine games this season included eight wins, two of which came in early December against current-No. 2 Gonzaga and current-No. 11 Houston.

Those victories grabbed a lot of attention but the fanfare has subsided a bit since. UA has lost three of its last six games including a 92-86 misstep at Missouri Saturday. Alabama went into that game favored by 14.5 points.

Alabama earned a hard-fought 42-35 victory over Arkansas last Saturday. QB Bryce Young threw for 559 yards and five touchdowns in the triumph in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide rank eighth in the nation in passing with 344.1 yards per game and second nationally with 44.4 points per game — only Ohio State has scored more.

The Tigers dropped their third straight game Saturday when they fell 21-17 at South Carolina as the Gamecocks held Auburn to just three points over the final 45 minutes. The Tigers are now 0-3 ATS over their last three games and are 2-6 ATS across their last eight games played in Weeks 10-13.

Alabama leads the Iron Bowl series 47-37-1. The two sides have split the last four games; Alabama won the 2020 meeting by a score of 42-13. The Tide didn’t allow an Auburn touchdown until late in the fourth quarter in that meeting.

The home side has held sway in recent games. The home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the Crimson Tide are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games at Auburn.

The Auburn passing game — the Tigers’ preferred method of locomotion — doesn’t rely on a lot of big plays but it is one that does well to stay ahead of the chains.

And not being too run-reliant is a key against the Alabama defense. Auburn also does well to stifle havoc plays, and that’s another big key against the Tide.

Any “turnover luck” in the numbers has helped Alabama while hurting their neighbors to the east.

The Tigers took care of Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss team at Jordan-Hare last week by a 31-20 count, covering the 3-point number while the Under easily connected. Auburn has consecutive covers for the first time since Sept. 4-11 during the non-conference schedule.

The Aggies topped Alabama Oct. 9, and have been rejuvenated since. They pounded Missouri on the road, 35-14, and then waylaid South Carolina last week by a 44-14 count at Kyle Field, easily covering a 19.5-point number.

Money line

AUBURN (+170) is playing a good brand of football right now, and I think QB Bo Nix is finally living up to the hype and playing well after some mediocre results early in his career.

The last time an Alabama school visited College Station, Texas A&M (-210) pulled off the upset, but I like the balance of the Tigers better and think they get it done on the road.

Against the spread

AUBURN +4.5 (-110) is a good play if you’re not quite feeling them straight up. This is going to be a close game between SEC West contenders, and neither can afford a third loss in the conference.

I just trust Nix and the Tigers offense a little more than QB Zach Calzada and the Aggies. Yes, A&M has looked good the past couple of games, but Mizzou and South Carolina pale in comparison to Auburn.

Over/Under

OVER 49.5 (-112) is the lean here. Texas A&M has posted 35 or more points in three straight while hitting the Over in three of the past four. That includes the Alabama game. While Calzada and the offense struggled immensely early on, he has found his sea legs of late.

Auburn has hit the Over just once in the past four outings but is averaging 34.9 points per game on the season.
