Former Georgia baseball commit flips to play QB for Clemson Tigers

Bubba Chandler, who was recently committed to Georgia baseball, has announced his commitment to Clemson, where he’ll play QB and baseball.

On Wednesday, Clemson football added a commitment from quarterback Bubba Chandler, who until recently was committed to play baseball at Georgia.

Clemson offered Chandler on May 7. On May 11, he announced he’d be reopening his recruitment and that he wanted to play both baseball and football in college.

Chandler announced his decision to play both sports for Clemson via Twitter on May 20.

Out of North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia, Chandler is a right-handed pitcher and shortstop. He originally committed to play baseball at UGA in June. With Georgia not being able to offer him a football scholarship, he’s decided to attend Clemson, where he can pursue both sports.

Chandler originally did not expect to receive interest from Clemson, a school that he’s never actually taken a recruiting visit to. But when Clemson quarterback target Christian Veilleux committed to Penn State a few weeks ago, it left the Tigers looking for a signal-caller in their 2021 class. So Clemson took a swing at a two-for-one deal and it paid off.

He did, however, visit Clemson in 2018 when his friend on the football team got him to tickets to see a game in Death Valley.

“[The Clemson coaches] just watched my film, a lot of my Twitter videos, and I talked with the coaches pretty much every day on the phone,” Chandler told ESPN. “Then, of course, our high school head coach knows [Clemson safeties coach] Mickey Conn pretty well. Clemson’s coaches asked our head coach about me, my character, and I guess they liked what they heard.”

Chandler has been playing both sports for nearly his entire life, and will continue that at Clemson.

“They’re going to develop me into the best player I can be in both sports,” Chandler said. “They have a chance to compete for a national championship every year. I’ve always wanted to play football in college, and what better place to play football than at Clemson?”

As for Georgia, the Bulldogs already have another quarterback committed in the 2021 class who also happens to be from Bogart. That’s 5-star dual-threat Brock Vandagriff.

Georgia football: This George Pickens stat will get you excited about 2020

This stat about Georgia WR George Pickens will get you excited about the UGA football offense in 2020.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF) Georgia wide receiver George Pickens is the only returning receiver with 75 plus targets and zero drops in all of college football.

Pickens was a freshman phenom for the Bulldogs last year. In a run dominant offense, he caught 49 passes for 727 yards and 8 touchdowns, which earned him Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team honors.

A former 5-star recruit from Hoover, Alabama, in the 2019 recruiting class, Pickens was originally committed to the Auburn Tigers until flipping to the Bulldogs on signing day. He was tabbed as the No. 4 receiver in the country and the No. 1 player in Alabama, which helped make the 2019 Georgia class the No. 1 class in the country for the second year in a row.

The sky is the limit for Pickens in 2020. Georgia made two huge off-season moves for the Bulldogs’ passing game with the singing of Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman, who is known for a great deep ball and the hiring of offensive coordinator Todd Monken, known for his air-raid passing attack.

DawgNation should be excited for what is to come for this young offense. Injuries and drops plagued the Georgia receiving group in 2019, but Pickens should have some more help around him in 2020. Sophomore receiver Dominick Blaylock looks to return from an ACL tear and Kirby Smart and staff added four 4-star receivers in this year’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Not to mention 5-star 2020 TE signee Darnell Washington (6-8, 261).

5-star CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry, a Georgia target, releases top-five

5-star CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry, a big-time Georgia football recruiting target, released his top-five schools on Sunday.

On Sunday, 2021 5-star cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry took to Twitter to release his top-five schools.

Out of Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama, McKinstry tweeted a top-five of Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Clemson.

McKinstry ranks as the nation’s No. 23 overall player and as the No. 2 cornerback in the 2021 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, Alabama is the favorite to land McKinstry, with LSU and Auburn also right there.

Georgia offered McKinstry in March of 2018.

A two-sport star, McKinstry is also a star on the Pinson Valley basketball team. He has won three state championships during his high school career — two in football and one in basketball.

As a cornerback, he earned Alabama Class 6A first-team all-state honors on defense as a sophomore.

Last season, he had 30 tackles, 12 pass breakups and six interceptions.

In addition to defensive back, he also plays wide receiver and kick returner for the Pinson Valley Indians.

Last season as a receiver, McKinstry finished with 47 catches for 700 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Big-Time Notre Dame O-Line Target Chooses Auburn

Caleb Johnson, a four-star offensive tackle from Florida made is college decision Friday and it came as a blow to Notre Dame.

For the second time in ten days one of Notre Dame’s most desired targets in the 2021 recruiting class has chosen to take his talents elsewhere.  Last week it was star running back Will Shipley choosing Clemson over the Irish, Friday afternoon it was offensive tackle Caleb Johnson committing to Auburn over Notre Dame.

The four-star offensive tackle chose Auburn and again, Notre Dame misses out on the second tackle they’ve been trying so hard to add to their ’21 class.  His commitment to Auburn bumps the Tigers from 48 in the 247Sports team rankings all the way to 35 as he’s their sixth overall commitment in the class.

You may see Johnson being a Florida guy staying in the southeast, but he grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana which gave many hope that he’d one day wear Notre Dame’s blue and gold uniforms.

The Notre Dame class remains at ten commitments with tackle Blake Fisher and guard Pat Coogan being the two on the offensive line.  Not that they aren’t already but I’d expect it to be all systems go on Pennsylvania product Nolan Rucci, a five-star tackle who recently included Notre Dame in his top nine.

Clemson football coaches coming for Georgia baseball commit

Clemson football coaches are recruiting Georgia baseball commit Bubba Chandler to play QB for the Tigers.

Clemson quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott have been in touch with 2021 Georgia baseball commit Bubba Chandler.

Out of North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia, Chandler is a right-handed pitcher and shortstop. He committed to play baseball at UGA last June.

Clemson quarterback target Christian Veilleux committed to Penn State last week, leaving the Tigers looking for a signal caller in their 2021 class.

Though Chandler is committed to play baseball at Georgia, he has been picking up football offers lately from schools like UNC-Charlotte, Western Kentucky and Troy.

He said that the Auburn football program has also been recruiting him heavily.

Clemson is yet to offer Chandler, but the two sport star told TigerNet that if they do offer he would certainly give them a chance. He said he would love to play both sports in college.

Chandler has not yet been able to visit the Clemson campus, but it appears he is excited to do so when the lockdown is lifted.

As for Georgia, the Bulldogs already have another quarterback from Bogart committed in the 2021 class. That’s 5-star dual-threat Brock Vandagriff.

“I love UGA. But I love football as well,” Chandler told Clemson Insider. “I’m going to look over and consider any opportunity, such as Clemson.”

P5-star Georgia football OT commit Broderick Jones will no longer be visiting Auburn this weekend. The Tigers were UGA’s biggest threat.

5-star offensive tackle Broderick Jones, one of Georgia’s highest ranked commitments in the class of 2020, has had Bulldog fans on the edge of their seats the past few weeks.

Jones, a 6-5, 300 pounder out of Lithonia, Georgia, ranks as the nation’s No. 11 overall prospect and has been committed to Georgia since April of 2018.

Despite his longtime commitment, he was not comfortable signing with Georgia during the early. Former UGA offensive line coach Sam Pittman’s departure for Arkansas likely had something to do with Jones keeping his recruitment open.

Auburn has been Georgia’s biggest threat to flip the 5-star tackle. Jones has planned to take a visit there this weekend, but per a report from Keith Niebuhr of 247, he will no longer make that visit.

That does not make him joining the Bulldogs official, but it does put Georgia fans’ minds at ease knowing he will not visit Auburn just a few days before National Signing Day.

Jones was in Athens this past weekend, along with a plethora of elite recruits.

Following his visit, he posted on Twitter about what a great time he had and how he is still committed to the Dawgs.

Georgia football had a commit boosted from 4 to 5-stars by 247Sports.

On Tuesday, 247Sports put in its final rankings for the nation’s top 32 prospects, boosting a Georgia commit from 41st overall to 30th.

In the 247 rankings, Jones is officially a 5-star prospect and is the No. 3 offensive tackle in America and No. 4 prospect in Georgia.

Jones, a 6-5, 300 pounder out of Lithonia, Georgia has been committed to Georgia since April of 2018.

Despite his longtime commitment, he was not comfortable signing with Georgia during the early. Former UGA offensive line coach Sam Pittman’s departure for Arkansas likely had something to do with Jones keeping his recruitment open.

Georgia football’s 2020 recruiting class ranks No. 3 in the nation and features five 5-star players.

Four of those 5-stars utilized the early signing period to make things official. However, offensive tackle Broderick Jones decided to wait it out and will sign during the regular signing period which begins on February 5th.

Jones, a 6-5, 300 pounder out of Lithonia, Georgia, ranks as the nation’s No. 14 overall prospect and has been committed to Georgia since April of 2018.

Despite his longtime commitment, he was not comfortable signing with Georgia during the early. Former UGA offensive line coach Sam Pittman’s departure for Arkansas likely had something to do with Jones keeping his recruitment open.

Georgia misses out on elite safety; chooses Auburn

Georgia football lost a recruiting battle with Auburn for Eric Reed.

Georgia has a had another stellar Early Signing Day.

Most things have gone Georgia’s way, however, the Bulldogs did just lose a recruiting battle with Auburn and Gus Malzahn for 4-star safety Eric Reed.

Reed, the nation’s 175th overall player out of Shreveport, Louisiana, chose Auburn over Georgia and LSU.

The 6’1” 197 pound DB would have been a nice one to get, especially with Georgia losing J.R. Reed and possibly Richard LeCounte.

Luckily for Georgia, the Dawgs were able to pull off a big commitment from a different 4-star safety out of Louisiana, Major Burns, who signed today.

Report: Georgia tried to get 5-star commit to sign today; wants to visit Auburn first

Georgia football wanted 5-star OT to sign on Early Signing Day, but he wants to visit Auburn first.

According to a report from Chad Simmons of Rivals, one of Georgia’s top commits does not plan on signing in the Early Signing Period.

Broderick Jones, a 5-star offensive tackle who has been committed to Georgia since April of 2018, is the nation’s No. 19 overall player and 2nd ranked OT.

Out of Lithonia, Georgia, Jones is a 6-5, 275 pounder who possesses great length for the position.

According to Simmons, Georgia tried to get Jones to sign, sending him the papers needed on the first day of the early period, but Jones wants to take his time.

Simmons reports that Jones will visit both Auburn and Georgia in January.

Jones visited Auburn twice in the month of November.
