Flip alert! Florida State adds 5-star defensive lineman Armando Blout

Armando Blount was a huge recruiting win for Florida State.

Florida State had a big recruiting win this weekend, flipping Armondo Blount from Miami. It is a significant loss for Miami to lose a player from their own backyard.

For the Seminoles, the addition of Blout, a five-star defensive lineman, sees Florida State move up two spots in the On3 Industry Rankings. According to On3, Florida State now has the fourth-best recruiting class in the nation.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman is the No. 20 player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the third highest-ranked commit in the Florida State class behind K.J. Bolden and Luke Kromenhoek.

Blount, a class of 2024 recruit from Miami Central High School (Miami, Florida), has 32 total tackles on the season and eight sacks. He also has 10 tackles for a loss.

Florida State is currently 7-0 following a win two weeks ago over Duke. The Seminoles were on a bye this past weekend.

They are currently fourth in the nation in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

Miami lands 2025 5-star recruit Armondo Blount

Armondo Blount, a defensive lineman and the No. 4 player in the class, chose the Hurricanes over Ohio State, USC and others.

The Miami Hurricanes landed a commitment from one of the biggest names in the 2025 class on Thursday.

Armondo Blount, a defensive lineman from Miami, Florida, chose the Hurricanes over offers from Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, Florida State, and others.

“We home baby!” the tweet announcing his commitment read.

Blount, the No. 5 player in the country according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 250 pounds.

“A twitched-up defensive lineman,” Andrew Ivins, the 247Sports Director of Scouting, wrote about Blount. “Not the biggest ā€“ or longest ā€“ of defenders, but can win with his initial get-off and a simple chop of the hands.”

Blount also won a Florida 3A state championship in the shot put as a high school freshman, an event he competed in for the AAU Junior Olympics.

Ohio State in final five for 2025 five-star Florida defensive end

The Buckeyes hope to score big in Florida again #GoBucks

It hasnā€™t been easy for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] and itā€™s recruitment of defensive ends.

The 2023 cycle saw the Buckeyes miss on multiple top targets and in 2024, it hasnā€™t been as much of a struggle, 5-star Eddrick Houston is committed, but he is the only pledge at the position.

The results arenā€™t due to lack of effort, it clearly shows the Ohio State coaching staff is putting in the work. How do we know that?

Well, theyā€™re consistently added in high-level prospects top groups, like Florida 2025 defensive end [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 250-pounder has the Buckeyes in his top five.

It’s still early to get a good feel on where Blount is leaning, but we’ll stay on top of all the news.

Blount one of the best players in the country, as heā€™s ranked as the No. 2 defensive end and 5th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Ohio State offered him in January of 2022, so it’s been recruiting him for close to two years now.

2025 5-Star DL Armando Blount includes Oklahoma in top 5

Top 5 defensive lineman in the 2025 class, Armondo Blount included the Oklahoma Sooners in his top five.

The Oklahoma Sooners are off to a great start to the season and in their [autotag]2025 recruiting cycle[/autotag]. With five commitments in the class, the Sooners are ahead of schedule compared to the 2023 and 2024 cycles.

They continue to gain momentum in 2025, earning a spot in the top five of top five prospect [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag].

The Sooners made the cut alongside the Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, and USC Trojans.

Out of Miami, Fla., the Hurricanes and Seminoles have taken advantage of their proximity to the elite defensive line prospect, hosting Blount on campus for multiple unofficial visits.

But based on Oklahoma’s recruiting success since Brent Venables and his staff’s arrival to Norman, you can’t count the Sooners out until the prospect signs.

Blount is an incredible athlete who’s able to cause havoc off the edge with speed and power.

It may be a tough ask for the Sooners to earn a commitment from Blount, but they’ve had their share of wins and close calls in defensive line recruiting over the last year and a half. Don’t count out the Sooners.

Gators to get this 5-star DL on campus for Florida-Tennessee game

With the addition of Blount to the ledger, the Gators now have 23 top recruits expected to attend the Vols game.

The list of prep prospects who have planned to visit Gainesville on Saturday, Sept. 9, continues to grow rapidly with a week and a half remaining. On that day, Florida football will host the Tennessee Volunteers for both schools’ Southeastern Conference opener in the Swamp, along with a myriad of high school athletes.

Among many who have set their itineraries for an unofficial gameday visit with the Gators is five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag]Ā out of Miami (Florida) Central. The 6-foot-3.5-inch, 250-pound defender told On3’s Keith Niebuhr on Wednesday his plans stop in Hogtown.

The high school junior has made four previous trips to see the university. In July, On3 reported that the Orange and Blue were in the mix for the Sunshine State product, with a pair of other in-state schools also in pursuit.

ā€œRight now, FSU and Miami. Florida is in the mix too, and Georgia. Those are the schools Iā€™m looking at,ā€ Blount said. ā€œI havenā€™t really looked into it too much because I havenā€™t visited anywhere. Those are the four schools Iā€™m going to try to get out to first for visits when I do get a chance.ā€

Blount is ranked No. 5 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 4 and 2, respectively. On3ā€™s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Florida in front with a 39.0% chance of signing him, followed by the Miami Hurricanes (22.9%), Florida State Seminoles (10.1%) and Georgia Tech Yellowjackets (4.4%).

Florida State ‘early front-runner’ for Miami Central 5-star DE Armondo Blount

They’re also looking good for at least one elite recruit from the class of 2025.

After a slow start, Florida State is coming on strong in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Over the weekend, they snagged a commitment from five-star safety KJ Bolden, when they weren’t even supposed to be in the race. Now theĀ Seminoles are in the top fiveĀ in the 2024 national recruiting rankings. They’re also looking good for at least one elite recruit from the class of 2025.

According toĀ Adam Gorney at Rivals.com,Ā Florida State is the early front-runner for Miami Central (Fla.) 2025 five-star DE Armondo Blount.

“Florida State has been the early front-runner for the 2025 five-star defensive end from Miami (Fla.) Central and a trip back to Tallahassee recently really stood out. Blount spent a lot of time with position coach Odell Haggins and even took notes of what Haggins was saying to remember for later. Miami and Florida are two other early ones to watch, but the Seminoles definitely stand out most.”

Blount (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) is rankedĀ first overall in Florida, second at his position, and fifth nationally in the class of 2025, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

The Seminoles might be the favorites for now, but Blount hasĀ offers from 28 other schools, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Miami. Also, only some agree FSU is in the lead. On3’s prediction model has Florida as the favorite at 39.2%, followed by Miami at 20.8% and FSU at 6.3%.

For the moment, Florida State has a pair of three-star recruits committed toĀ their class of 2025: Mandarin (Fla.) quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. and Eau Gallie (Fla.) wide receiver DL Hardison.

Gators ‘in the mix’ for top-5 recruit from class of 2025

It’s been a while since Florida has hosted five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount, but the Gators are still very much in the mix for the elite 2025 defender.

Miami Central defensive lineman [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag] might very well be the best defensive recruit in the class of 2025, and the in-state recruit is still considering each of the Sunshine State’s Big Three ā€” Florida, Florida State and Miami.

Despite four previous trips to the Swamp, Blount said to On3 that it’s the other two in-state programs recruiting him the hardest. The Hurricanes hosted him for a training camp over the summer, but Blount has kept a relatively low profile lately.

ā€œRight now, FSU and Miami.

Right now, Blount is focused on summer ball and improving his game. There is still well over a year until he has to put pen to paper, and a lot can change in that amount of time.

Florida is trying to get him on campus sooner rather than later, but Blount’s schedule may not allow for him to make it to the Grill in the Ville’ cookout on July 29.

Blount is a consensus five-star recruit, ranked highest by 247Sports and ESPN, which both have him at No. 4 overall. ESPN says he’s the best defensive lineman in the class, while the other three services agree that he’s the second best.

The On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, puts Blount at No. 3 nationally and No. 2 among defensive linemen in the class of 2025. He’s also the top-ranked player out of Florida.

Michigan football offers five-star DL, top-rated 2025 player in Florida

Getting him would be a game-changer. #GoBlue

Now that recruiting is exploding for Michigan football in the class of 2024, the Wolverines are swinging for the fences in the 2025 class. And that means targeting elite players in talent-rich areas.

One of the maize and blue’s latest offers reflects that.

On Tuesday, Michigan football dipped into Florida, offering 2025 Miami (Florida) Central five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount, he reported on Twitter. Blount is rated the No. 4 player in the country according to 247Sports, the top player in the state of Florida and the second-best defensive lineman in the 2025 class. He’s listed at 6 feet, 3 inches and 250 pounds as a high school sophomore.

Naturally, Michigan football will battle just about every top program for Blount. He already has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others.

Also adept at shot put, here is 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins on Blount’s potential:

A twitched-up defensive lineman with elite shot put numbers (was Floridaā€™s 3A state champion as a freshman and an AAU Junior Olympian). Got varsity snaps as an eighth grader in the Sunshine Stateā€™s highest classification. Followed his rookie season up with a breakout freshman campaign in which he totaled 13 sacks while working alongside Miami signee Nyjalik Kelly. Not the biggest ā€“ or longest ā€“ of defenders, but can win with his initial get-off and a simple chop of the hands. Has been deployed as both a 5 and 4i on Friday nights. Figures to settle in as more of an interior player at the next level height/weight/length combo (he was roughly 6-foot-2.5, 250 pounds in February of 2022), but has shown that he can run the arc and be effective out on the perimeter in 1-on-1 situations. Far from a complete product, and will need to keep evolving as both a pass rusher and a run defender over the next few years, but already tracking to be one of the top prospects in South Florida for the 2025 cycle given early body of work. Likely to emerge as a top target for Power Five programs around the country.

Florida set to host a top-5 prospect on campus for weekend visit

The Gators are hosting one of the top prospects in the class of 2025, Miami Central edge rusher Armondo Blount, on a visit over the weekend.

The top-ranked recruit from the class of 2025 out of the state of Florida, Miami Central defensive lineman/edge rusher [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag], is returning to the Swamp this weekend.

Blount took to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm the news that he’d be in Gainesville Saturday for another visit. He stopped by UF three times last year, including two gameday visits and participating in the Gators’ Friday Night Lights Camp over the summer.

This trip should give Blount more time to connect with the staff. While Billy Napier did meet with him and offer after the FNL camp, Blount hasn’t gotten much personal time around the staff because they were busy coaching.

Blount is ranked No. 5 on both the 247Sports composite and On3 industry ranking. 247Sports thinks he’s the No. 2 defensive lineman in his class, but On3 has him listed as the No. 3 edge rusher in the class. Blount’s pass rushing is what’s earned him so many looks at a young age. He’s advanced beyond his years and is only improving as he matures.

Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M are among his more than two dozen offers, but Florida is the team that appears to be in the driver’s seat right now. The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives the Gators 49.0% odds to land him right now, but a lot could change over the next two years.

2025 5-star DL planning return to Swamp after visiting for USF game

One of the top recruits in the class of 2025 got his first taste of game-day action in the Swamp on Saturday, and he’s already planning a return visit.

One of the top recruits in the class of 2025, five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag], was in Gainesville over the weekend to see the Florida Gators take on the USF Bulls.

Saturday was Blount’s first game-day experience at a school other than the University of Miami, which is the closest Power Five program to Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale. He caught up with Blake Alderman of 247Sports following the visit and the Swamp appears to have impressed. Assistant defensive line coach Kareem Reid was his host for most of the night, and he made sure the sophomore took in the full SEC experience.

“He was just telling me to stay tuned for a good game and how it’s different in The Swamp,” Blount said. “It was different. Way different than anything I have ever seen before. This was my first college game outside of Miami.”

Blount has plans to return to the Swamp, too. He’s penciled in the LSU game on October 15 for his next visit. If he thought the USF game was loud, he’ll be even more impressed by the crowd for LSU.

It’s still very early in the recruiting process for Blount, but Florida’s getting on his good side early for a reason. He’s ranked fifth overall in the class of 2025 on the 247Sports composite and is the No. 2 defensive lineman in the class.
