NFL insider comments on the job security of the current Browns regime

The current regime is not in any danger according to Albert Breer.

The job security of Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry appear safe.

The Browns’ rough start to 2024 doesn’t appear to have shaken owner Jimmy Haslam’s thoughts on what to do with the future of his front office.

Despite receiving long-term extensions this past offseason, many in the Browns fanbase are eager to see one of the two fired for their decision to trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson. Albert Breer, a senior NFL reporter, commented on the Browns’ general manager and head coach’s outlook on 92.3 The Fan’s Afternoon Drive:

“They have made the playoffs two of the four seasons under this current model, and the quarterback decision might not be on Kevin and Andrew as much as it was an organizational decision”.

Breer cites Jimmy Haslam’s vote of confidence in letting Berry lead the Browns before the NFL trade deadline as justification for his support of the team’s head coach and general manager. If the Browns continue to do well after the quarterback change, there are very minimal reasons to see Berry or Stefanski lose their jobs.

Eagles vs. Browns: Best photos from Philadelphia’s 20-16 win over Cleveland in Week 6

Best photos from Philadelphia Eagles 20-16 win over Cleveland Brown in Week 6

It wasn’t the prettiest win, but Philadelphia did enough to avoid an ugly post-bye week loss with a 20-16 victory over the 1-5 Browns in Week 6. On defense, Vic Fangio’s unit held Cleveland to 244 total yards and 3-12 on third down.  The Eagles’ rushing attack was stifled, but thanks to the return of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Kellen Moore’s offense was able to amass 256 yards, passing 116 yards on the ground and explosive plays from their top two pass catchers. With preparation for the NFC East opener against the Giants set to begin, here are the top photos from the big win. ***

Browns expect their missing offensive linemen back soon

The Browns are expecting some of their reinforcements back soon.

The Cleveland Browns are closing out their preseason against the Seattle Seahawks in a late-night affair, but they are doing so without a plethora of their starters. The majority of their missing starters, however, come across the offensive line.

Right now, the Browns are missing offensive tackles Jack Conklin, Jedrick Wills, James Hudson III, and Hakeem Adeniji. However, general manager Andrew Berry, speaking on the team’s pre-game show, shed some light on their shortage of bookends.

ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi captured the conversation, one where Berry said, “We do expect some of our guys to come back over the next week or two.”

Veteran and two-time All-Pro Conklin was seen working out with trainers earlier this week, kick setting as both a left and right tackle. He enters the season more than likely slated as the team’s swing tackle behind both Wills and Dawand Jones.

However, with Wills still not back on the practice field, we could see Conklin start Week 1 at left tackle. This is a position he has not played since his All-American days back at Michigan State which got him drafted in the first round.

With the Cowboys just about two weeks away, the Browns need their protection to be at full force against Micah Parsons and company.

Mike Vrabel acknowledges the Browns cultural turnaround in recent years

Respect for the organization is a big part of Vrabel coming to Cleveland

It was a big surprise that after being fired from the Titans, no one offered former NFL Coach of the Year Mike Vrabel a head coaching job. Vrabel has been around a lot of football and knows what it takes to win it all from his playing days with the Patriots. Oh well, all to gain for the Cleveland Browns in the meantime.

It’s not often that a guy of this degree takes a consulting role for your team, but Cleveland was able to make that happen. On Tuesday, Vrabel talked about how his respect for the organization played a big part in his taking the job with the Browns.

“Well, I think that one, I have a lot of respect for this organization. What Jimmy and Dee (Haslam) have done, a ton of respect for Andrew and Kevin and what they’ve been able to do in a short amount of time. And, you know, I trust them. I trust them that they would do right by me and that they would help me and that the position and the fit would be beneficial to everybody.”

It wasn’t long ago that no one would say something like this about the Browns, but it shows how different things are in Cleveland now. This role is likely only for one season, but his advice could greatly help the team.

Cleveland Browns analytics department named best in football by experts

In an episode of the Establish the Run podcast, hosts Adam Levitan and Mike Leone and guests ESPN’s Seth Walder and Sports Info Solutions’ Matt Manocherian named the Browns the best analytics department in football.

The Cleveland Browns front office was praised as the best analytics group in the NFL. In an episode of the Establish the Run podcast, hosts Adam Levitan and Mike Leone talked to ESPN’s Seth Walder and Sports Info Solutions’ Matt Manocherian about the future of analytics and how it will change football. The episode covers an array of topics from practical applications to speculative fields. The group briefly discussed which organizations had the best analytics departments before unanimously agreeing on the Browns.

The Browns have heavily invested in their analytics department over the decade. Jimmy Haslam hired Paul DePodesta as the chief strategy officer in 2016. Under DePodesta’s vision, the Browns hired head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry. The organization has completely embraced data analysis as a tool of the trade.

Berry and Stefanski have turned the Browns from one of the worst organizations into a perennial playoff contender. Andrew Berry has helped usher in the age of analytics. It’s not just the media and insiders who believe in the analytics department. NFL teams have shown a strong interest in Browns’ front office members over the past few years. Assistant general managers Catherine Raiche, and Glenn Cook interviewed for the general manager role with multiple organizations this offseason. The Minnesota Vikings hired, former Browns’ vice president of football operations, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as their general manager.

The organization has built something special in its front office. The Browns will continue advancing the state of analytics in football, and the league will follow.

Poll: Can the Browns win a Super Bowl with Stefanski and Berry?

Will this group lead the team to the promise land?

This past week was a big one for the Cleveland Browns, as they extended head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry. Since the team returned in 1999, there hasn’t been a regime deserving of extensions until this group came to town in 2020.

With the amount of adversity this regime has had over the four seasons it is rather remarkable the success they have been able to have. Pair that with most of the time they have gotten below-average quarterback play, and it just shows how good this coach and general manager combo actually is.

But now that they have established themselves as a good regular-season team, they have to take the next step and have more success in the playoffs. A 1-2 playoff record isn’t terrible but they have to get deeper in the playoffs this year to continue the journey to a Super Bowl.

So, do you believe that the Cleveland Browns will one day win a Super Bowl with Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry?

Browns Podcast: The culture change fans have desired is finally in place

Cleveland finally has stability in place

For the first time in what feels like forever, the Cleveland Browns have extended their head coach and general manager duo. Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry have done what a ton have tried and been unable to do; they have built a winning culture that is set up for sustained success.

This all started during the 2020 season, which brought on a level of adversity that the league had never seen. This regime didn’t blink, instead turning a six-win team into an 11-win playoff team. Cleveland accomplished this with no real off-season workouts and no preseason. They just hit the ground running and won football games.

It also seems likely that the two are no longer completely tied to the success of Deshaun Watson after what they showed last season with all the injuries and adversity they overcame. You can hear more about the changes that these extensions represent by checking out our latest episode by clicking here.
