4 Oklahoma Sooners earn All-SEC Honors

Oklahoma Sooners earn four All-SEC honors.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ first swim through the SEC wasn’t up to standards but several players proved ready for the uptick in competition.

Four Sooners earned selection to the All-SEC teams, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

[autotag]Danny Stutsman[/autotag] led the way, earning a spot on the All-SEC first-team defense. Stutsman led the way for a Sooners defense that was one of the best in the nation in 2024. Stutsman led the Sooners with 108 total tackles and recorded eight tackles for loss. Stutsman is now off to the NFL, where he’ll have a chance to be a late first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Also earning All-SEC honors was [autotag]R Mason Thomas[/autotag], who was selected to the conference’s second team after recording a team-high nine sacks and 12 tackles for loss. After battling injuries his first two seasons in Norman, Thomas experienced a breakout season for the Sooners and became a dynamic pass rusher in critical moments.

[autotag]Billy Bowman[/autotag] was named to the All-SEC third team at safety. Bowman recorded 54 total tackles, two interceptions, three pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries. Like Stutsman, Bowman is off to the NFL, where he has a chance to be selected in the top four rounds of the 2025 NFL draft.

Long snapper Ben Anderson was also a third-team All-SEC selection after putting together a clean season from a snapping perspective. He also made three tackles on punt returns this season.

Pair of Oklahoma Sooners earn All-SEC preseason honors

Pair of Sooners earn All-SEC preseason selections for the 2024-2025 season.

As the Oklahoma Sooners venture into their first season in the SEC, they’ll be faced with new challenges. But the 2023-2024 Big 12 champions will pose a threat in their new conference home as well.

The Sooners were picked to finish fourth by SEC media in their preseason poll.

Oklahoma finished behind South Carolina, Texas, and LSU. Though it will be a tough mountain to climb, especially as South Carolina and LSU have won each of the last three titles, the Sooners have a talented roster for head coach Jennie Baranczyk to work with.

Oklahoma returns 98% of its scoring production from a year ago and added one of the best players in the transfer portal in [autotag]Raegan Beers[/autotag]. Beers was named to the All-SEC preseason first-team while [autotag]Skylar Vann[/autotag] was named to the All-SEC second team by the media.

In 2023-2024, Beers averaged 17.5 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game for Oregon State last season. Vann averaged 15.1 points and seven rebounds per game, earning Co-Big 12 Player of the Year honors last season.

Oklahoma is looking to make their first trip to the sweet 16 under Baranczyk but has a talented and experienced roster to make a run this season.

Coaches vote Sooners defensive stars to All-SEC first team

Billy Bowman and Danny Stutsman voted to the Coaches preseason All-SEC first-team.

The Oklahoma Sooners may have a lot to prove as a team heading into the SEC, but there are a pair of Sooners defenders getting a ton of respect heading into their senior season.

Senior linebacker [autotag]Danny Stutsman[/autotag] and senior safety [autotag]Billy Bowman[/autotag] were selected to the All-SEC first team by the league’s coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players. They were the only players voted to any of the three All-SEC teams.

Bowman showed out as one of the best safeties in the game in 2023. He recorded six interceptions, including three returns for touchdowns. Bowman also had 63 total tackles and four passes defended. He set program highs in interceptions, interception yardage, and interceptions returned for a touchdown.

Stutsman led the Sooners with 106 tackles and 16 tackles for loss in a breakout year of his own.

Both players had the opportunity to go to the NFL and would have likely been taken in the top 100 of the 2024 NFL draft. However, the two defensive leaders opted for one more year of development and to make a run through the SEC before heading off to the NFL.

The Oklahoma Sooners defense is on a strong trajectory heading into the 2024 season, but nothing will be given to them. Getting Stutsman and Bowman back for one more year provides the Sooners with front-line talent to go along with what [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] and [autotag]Zac Alley[/autotag] have been building through the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail.

A total of 13 Longhorns named to media preseason All-SEC team

Texas was well represented on this list.

The annual media days event has come and gone for the SEC. Now focus shifts to the start of the 2024 college football season. Before we get to the actual games, the SEC announced the media’s preseason all-conference teams. The Texas Longhorns were well-represented on the list.

Only two Texas players were named to first-team All-SEC. They are starting left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. and kicker Bert Auburn. A vast majority of the selections for named to the second team. Between offense, defense, and special teams, there were eight Longhorns named. This group is led by starting quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Without further ado, here is the list of Texas Longhorns named to the media’s preseason All-SEC team:

Three Tigers receive All-SEC Team honors

Auburn Forwards Johni Broome and Jaylin Williams along with freshman Aden Holloway receive All-SEC honors.

Three Auburn Tigers earned spots on the SEC men’s basketball all-conference teams on Monday. Forwards [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] along with freshman [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag] received honors from the league.

Broome, who was in the running for SEC Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team as well as the All-SEC Defensive Team after a spectacular junior season in which he averaged 16.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

Broome improved in all three statistical categories during his second season on the Plains. His 2.1 dimes per contest was a career-high.

Despite playing nearly 2 fewer minutes per fixture this season, Auburn’s leader produced nearly identical defensive statistics of 2.3 blocks and 0.9 steals as he did a year ago. Most notably, Broome was able to stay out of foul trouble by cutting his 3 fouls per game down to 2.4

Front-court mate Jaylin Williams found himself on the All-SEC Second Team after assembling the best season of his career in 2023-2024. The senior put up career-highs in points per game (12.9), field goal percentage (57.7%), and 3-point percentage (39.7).

The longest-tenured Tiger also enjoyed his best free throw percentage (82.5) since his freshmen season when he only appeared in 14 games.

Five-star freshmen Aden Holloway also received honors from the league as he was named to the All-SEC Freshmen Team after an up-and-down first season in front of the Jungle.

After scoring 18 points in the first game of the year against Baylor, Holloway struggled to find his stroke from beyond the 3-point arc but still managed to command [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag]’s offense well.

The 19-year-old from Charlotte finished the season averaging nearly 3 assists per game while committing less than a turnover per outing. Even with the shooting struggles, Holloway managed to finish fifth on the team with 7.8 points per game.

Auburn’s 3 selections to the All-SEC team are tied with Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee and South Carolina for the second most selections in the conference.

Only Kentucky (4), had more players selected to All-SEC Teams.

Ike Irish and Bobby Peirce named to Preseason All-SEC Team

Two Tigers have received Preseason All-SEC honors.

Auburn catcher Ike Irish and outfielder Bobby Peirce received All-SEC Preseason honors from the conference on Thursday.

Irish, who was already named a Second Team All-American by the NCBWA earlier this week, received a nod on the Preseason All-SEC First Team while Pierce settled for the Second Team.

Auburn’s sophomore catcher is coming off one of the best freshmen campaigns in Auburn baseball history after mashing a freshmen record 24 doubles and leading the team with 86 hits and a .361 batting average.

Irish’s doubles mark was not only an Auburn freshmen record, but the most any Tiger hitter had hit in a season since 2005.

As for Pierce, the graduate student outfielder from Scottsdale, AZ enters 2024 coming off a career-best .343 batting average a season ago.

While he’s never shown much power on the Plains, Pierce showed an elite ability to get on base last season while playing above average defense in the outfield.

He’ll lead the team into 2024 as the longest-tenured Tiger on the roster, having played in 102 games over his four-year career.

The established Pierce and electric Irish begin their season on February 16 when Auburn hosts a weekend series against Western Kentucky.

Three Tigers named to All-SEC Freshmen Team

Auburn’s Alex McPherson, Keldric Faulk, and Connor Lew have been named to the All-SEC Freshmen team.

Three young Auburn Tigers have received All-SEC Honors.

Kicker [autotag]Alex McPherson[/autotag], edge rusher [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag], offensive lineman [autotag]Connor Lew [/autotag] were all named to the All-SEC Freshmen team on Thursday.

McPherson was not only one of the best place-kickers in the country this season, but one of the best kickers period.

The younger brother of Bengals’ kicker Evan McPherson, Alex drilled every single one of his attempts this year, including 13-of-13 field goals and 39-of-39 extra points.

McPherson showed accuracy and power throughout his freshman campaign, connecting on a 53-yard try as well as 3 more attempts from 40-plus yards.

The College Football Network Freshman Kicker of the Year seems ready to continue Auburn’s recent run of strong kickers on the Plains.

Unlike McPherson, [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag] and [autotag]Connor Lew[/autotag] weren’t major cogs in head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag]’s lineup until late in the season.

Lew started Auburn’s last five games, earning Freshmen of the week honors in his first start filling in for the injured [autotag]Avery Jones[/autotag] against Mississippi State.

The freshmen ran with the momentum, usurping Jones as the starting center for the final stretch of the season.

Lew helped a solid Tigers offensive line become great, specifically against Alabama in the Iron Bowl, when Auburn rushed for 244 yards against the SEC’s College Football Playoff representative.

Edge rusher [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag] was also a late-bloomer for the Tigers in his first season on the plains.

The freshman started the final 7 games of the season for Auburn, collecting 12 of his 32 total tackles in the final three games of the season.

He played an important role in attempting to shut down Alabama quarterback [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] in the Iron Bowl, and did a decent job for the most part.

These three freshman will enjoy the honor before retunring to practice to prepare for the Music City Bowl against Maryland on December 30 in Nashville.

Jalen McLeod and Keionte Scott earn SEC Player of the Week honors

Jalen McLeod and Keionte Scott had performances to remember on Saturday, and were honored by the SEC.

Auburn linebacker [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] have been named to the All-SEC team of the week after their performances in week 11.

McLeod takes home SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after his 9 tackle, 3 sack performance in Auburn’s dominant win over Arkansas.

The junior also recorded another tackle for loss along with the 3 sacks and forced a fumble.

The 3 sack performance is not only the best individual showing from a Tiger defender all year, but also the highest single-game sack production for an Auburn Tiger since 2021.

McLeod has given the Auburn defense one of, if not the best linebacker duos in the country with himself and [autotag]Eugene Asante[/autotag]. He is peaking at the right time with two regular season games and a bowl game remaining on the schedule.

Safety and punt returner [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] was also named to the All-SEC Team as the Special Teams Player of the Week.

After a few promising-looking punt returners against Vanderbilt, Scott finally broke one on Saturday for a 74-yard touchdown.

Scott added 9 more yards on returns on the day, finishing with 3 returns for 83 yards and the touchdown. The junior was asked about his thoughts on the return after the win.

“My main focus on punt return is being able to get my eyes down to scan the field and see where the hole is,” Scott said. “After receiving some great blocks from my teammates, I visualize being able to see the hole, hit the hole, stay vertical, and get into the end zone.”

Scott also played a large role on the defensive side of the ball, securing 3 total tackles in the contest.

Monday’s announcement marks the second week in a row two Auburn Tigers have been named to the All-SEC Team of the Week.

Auburn will hope to keep the good times rolling when they return to the Plains for senior day against New Mexico State on Saturday.

Auburn linemen Gunner Britton and Connor Lew named to SEC team of the week

Auburn utility lineman Gunner Britton and freshmen center Connor Lew have been named to the Week 9 All-SEC team after Auburn’s 27-13 win.

Auburn linemen [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag] and [autotag]Connor Lew[/autotag] have been named to the SEC team of the week after their strong performances in Auburn’s 27-13 win over Mississippi State.

Britton was named the SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week, while center Conner Lew has been named the SEC Freshmen of the Week.

Both linemen earned the award after they helped Auburn’s offense eclipse 416 yards of total offense, 186 of which came on the ground. They also were able to keep a clean sheet for quarterback Payton Thorne in the sack category for the first time since week 1.

This is the second time this season Britton has won SEC team of the week honors, the first time being the aforementioned week 1 game.

Auburn’s best lineman didn’t allow a quarterback hurry or a sack in the contest, and repeatedly made good blocks in the run game.

As for Lew, he wins Freshmen of the Week honors in his first career start on the Plains, as he was forced into action after Avery Jones injured himself against Ole Miss.

Lew had a great game, allowing only one quarterback hurry and no sacks. It will be interesting to see if head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze [/autotag] opts to rotate him in at center and the guard positions moving forward.

College Sports Wire’s midseason All-SEC team

From Jayden Daniels to Brock Bowers, here are best players at each position in the SEC through the first half of the season.

The All-SEC First Team is one of the highest honors short of making an All-American team in the country.

In what is routinely the most competitive conference in college football, if you can be the best at your position in the SEC, you can establish yourself at the forefront for national awards and position yourself for increased hype around the NFL Draft. Players like Joe Burrow and Cam Newton have parlayed a single All-SEC First Team season into the No. 1 pick in the Draft.

There might not be quite as dominant a talent as either of those two this year, but here are the best players the SEC has to offer through Week 6 of the regular season.
