Seven members of the 53-man roster did not play in the Denver Broncos‘ 28-14 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson*, safety P.J. Locke (thumb), offensive tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle), cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, tight end Greg Dulcich, outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman and defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike were inactive in Week 8.

*Wilson was inactive but still dressed as an emergency third quarterback.

Jarrett Stidham, Denver’s primary backup quarterback, also did not play as Bo Nix took every snap on offense. That gave the Broncos eight total players who did not see the field against the Panthers.

Broncos inactives: Starting defensive back won’t play vs. Panthers

Broncos inactives today: Zach Wilson*, Alex Palczewski, P.J. Locke, Kris Abrams-Draine, Greg Dulcich, Dondrea Tillman and Eyioma Uwazurike.

The Denver Broncos have announced their list of seven inactive players for a Sunday’s showdown with the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season.

Of note, Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (concussion) is ACTIVE after passing the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Denver’s inactive players today are quarterback Zach Wilson*, safety P.J. Locke (thumb), offensive tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle), cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, tight end Greg Dulcich, outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman and defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike.

With Locke inactive, Devon Key is presumably the next man up at safety. JL Skinner and Keidron Smith are also available behind starter Brandon Jones.

*Technically, Wilson is still available to play as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback behind starter Bo Nix and primary backup Jarrett Stidham, but he’s on the inactive list and does not count against the game-day roster. Wilson can play if both Nix and Stidham are injured.

With the exception of Wilson, these inactive players are members of the 53-man roster who are not eligible to play against the Panthers. They will be reactivated on Monday.

Broncos could have a few players return from injuries this week

Broncos CB Pat Surtain will be two weeks removed from his concussion when Denver hosts the Panthers in Week 8.

The Denver Broncos could get reinforcements on the injury front this week following their mini bye after playing on Thursday Night Football in Week 7.

The biggest name to watch will be cornerback Pat Surtain, who suffered a concussion against the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 13 and wasn’t cleared in time to play against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 17.

The Broncos will be a full two weeks removed from when Surtain suffered the injury when they host the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 27 in Week 8, so the cornerback presumably has a good chance to return in time for that game.

Elsewhere on the injury front, right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) will be three weeks removed from his initial injury when the Broncos take on the Panthers. There’s no rush to get Palczewski back on the field because Mike McGlinchey is now healthy again, but Denver’s offensive line will get a nice depth boost when “Palco” is cleared to play again.

Next week, Broncos running back running back Tyler Badie (back) will be eligible to return from injury reserve, and center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) can return in Week 10.

The Denver Broncos have released their final injury report ahead of their Thursday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and cornerback Pat Surtain (concussion) have both been ruled out. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) is eligible to return from IR this week, so he might return in time to take his old spot from Palczewski.

Broncos release estimated Monday injury report ahead of ‘TNF’

The Broncos did not practice on Monday, but they released an estimated injury report because they play on Thursday this week.

The Denver Broncos did not practice on Monday, but NFL rules require the team to release injury reports in the three days leading up to each game, so the Broncos released an estimated injury report today ahead of a Thursday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints.

Of note, right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) is listed as a projected limited participant, which is a positive sign after he missed Sunday’s game. Mike McGlinchey (MCL) is eligible to return from injured reserve this week, and we’ll know more about his status perhaps as early as tomorrow.

Denver cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) is also eligible to return from IR, which is good timing because Pat Surtain (concussion) seems unlikely to be cleared in time for Thursday’s game.

9 players did not play in Broncos’ game vs. Chargers

Nine Broncos players did not play on Sunday while Audric Estime and Devaughn Vele returned and Eyioma Uwazurike made his 2024 debut.

Nine members of the 53-man roster did not play in the Denver Broncos‘ 23-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson*, running back Blake Watson, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, safety JL Skinner, defensive back Keidron Smith, offensive tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and tight end Greg Dulcich were inactive in Week 6.

Everyone except Palczewski was a healthy scratch. Despite being inactive, Wilson still dressed as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback on Sunday.

Bo Nix played every snap on offense, so primary backup Jarrett Stidham also did not play, and backup offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton was not called into action. That gave the Broncos nine total players who did not see the field against the Chargers.

Broncos center goes on injured reserve; right tackle avoids IR

The Broncos placed center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve on Saturday. Alex Forsyth is the next man up.

The Denver Broncos placed center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve on Saturday with an ankle injury, the team announced.

Wattenberg will now have to sit out at least four games before being eligible to return from IR. On deck for the Broncos are games against the Los Angeles Chargers (home), New Orleans Saints (away), Carolina Panthers (home) and Baltimore Ravens (away).

The earliest Wattenberg would be eligible to return would be for a Week 10 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs on the road on Nov. 10. Alex Forsyth is set to start at center while Wattenberg is sidelined.

The good news for Denver is that right tackle Alex Palczewski has avoided IR, but he’s still ruled out for this week’s game. The Broncos are expected to replace Palczewski in the starting lineup with Matt Peart on Sunday. Next week, right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) will be eligible to return from IR and reclaim his starting role.

Denver’s game against Los Angeles will be regionally televised on CBS. Despite playing at home with a three-game winning streak, the Broncos are considered underdogs against the Chargers this week.
