Alabama MBB overcomes second-half rally by Jackrabbits to improve to 7-1

Alabama men’s basketball team improved to 7-1 on Saturday after defeating South Dakota State 78-65.

Alabama men’s basketball knocked off South Dakota State on Saturday night by a final score of 78-65. The Tide were led in scoring by freshman forward Noah Clowney. The South Carolina native scored 22 points while grabbing nine rebounds en route to the Tide’s victory.

Early on, it looked like Alabama was going to run away. The Tide had a 37-17 lead in the first half. However, that lead was cut to 42-35 by halftime.

In the second half, the Jackrabbits were able to overcome the 7-point deficit to take the lead. It wasn’t the ideal second half that Oats and his coaching staff had in mind. Nonetheless, freshman forward Brandon Miller and redshirt-sophomore Nimari Burnett combined to score 17 of the Tide’s 36 points in the second half to lead them to victory.

The Tide will return to action next Saturday when they travel to face the No. 1-ranked Houston Cougars. The game is set to tip-off at 3 p.m. EST and will be airing on ABC.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama men’s basketball program as the season progresses.

Alabama MBB moves up in the latest AP Poll after two ranked wins

Alabama men’s basketball won two out of three in the Phil Knight Invitational, which helped the Tide moved up several spots in the latest AP Poll.

Alabama men’s basketball team traveled to Portland, Oregon to compete in the Phil Knight Invitational last week. Nate Oats’ squad was able to come away with two ranked wins over Michigan State (Game 1) and North Carolina (Game 3). However, the Tide fell to UConn in Game 2 by 15 points.

As a result of the team’s performance in the PKI, the Tide was able to move up seven spots in the latest AP Poll. Alabama jumped from No. 18 to No. 11, a spot the team shares in a tie with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Tide improved to 6-1 on the season having won two out of three in Portland. That is a promising sign for the Tide as they continue their non-conference slate. Several other ranked opponents that the Tide will have to play are Houston (Dec. 10) and Gonzaga (Dec. 17). Last season, Alabama was able to defeat both programs.

Needless to say, the latest ranking speaks to what this squad has been able to accomplish in seven games.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the season progresses.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN: Stat leaders from Alabama basketball’s win over Longwood

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Alabama’s top performers after the season-opening win over Longwood.

Alabama basketball was able to defeat the Longwood Lancers in the first meeting ever between the two programs. The Crimson Tide won with a final score of 75-54.

The Crimson Tide held two exhibitions over the past month against TCU and Southern Illinois. Nate Oats’ squad was evidently eager to get things started as they took down the Lancers to open the season.

Despite only five players returning from a season ago, the Crimson Tide were able to create some big plays on both ends of the floor on Monday night.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down the stats leaders from the season-opening matchup of the 2022-2023 season.

Alabama basketball offers elite 2025 center with massive wingspan

The Alabama coaching staff recently extended an offer to 2025 center Francis Chukwudebelu.

Nate Oats and the rest of the coaching staff have not been shy in their pursuit of underclassmen. On Thursday, they extended an offer to 2025 center Francis Chukwudebelu.

Chukwudebelu has a wingspan that stretches 7-feet-5-inches. That is rare considering that he is just now entering his sophomore season at Prestonwood Christian Academy (TX). Alabama’s current center, Charles Bediako, has a wingspan that is 7-feet-2-inches.

So far, Alabama has offered five prospects from the 2025 recruiting cycle. Nonetheless, Bediako would be entering his senior season if he chose to stay until then. That would be an interesting duo at the center position in Nate Oats’ offense.

Of course, that is also just a possibility as the Texas native’s recruitment is sure to heat up over the next few years. As for now, he will focus on his sophomore season of high school.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at Francis Chukwudebelu’s recruiting profile below.

Alabama basketball set to face Big Ten opponent in Phil Knight Invitational

Alabama is slated to face Michigan State in the first round of the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Oregon.

The Alabama basketball team will have its hands full against nonconference opponents in the upcoming 2022-2023 season. As if it weren’t hard enough already, Alabama is now slated to face Michigan State in the first round of the Phil Knight invitational. As shared by Alabama Men’s Basketball Twitter, Alabama will face the Spartans on November 24 at 9:30 p.m. CST in Portland, Oregon. The game will be played at the Moda Center and will be aired on ESPN.

If the Tide are able to defeat the Spartans, they would advance to play the winner of the UConn-Oregon matchup at 9:00 p.m. CST on November 25 on ESPN2. However, if they lose, they would face the loser between UConn and Oregon at 11:30 p.m. CST on November 25 on ESPN2. Both second-round games would be played in Veterans Memorial Coliseum. It will certainly be a challenging tournament for the young Alabama basketball team.

One of the more interesting headlines will be Tide head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] colliding with Spartans head coach Tom Izzo. According to Rainer Sabin of AL.com, Izzo actually used his connection with Nick Saban to get Oats the job at Alabama. Both Izzo and Saban were head coaches for their respective sports teams at Michigan State in the 1980s.

Alabama will also take on non-conference opponents Gonzaga, Memphis, Houston and South Alabama. It won’t be easy on a team that will still be in search of some chemistry. They will have to do it on the fly against some of the more elite college basketball teams in the country.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball and news surrounding the program.

Former Alabama MBB F Alex Tchikou announces transfer destination

After spending one season with the Crimson Tide, Tchikous has announced where he will continue his collegiate basketball career.

Former Alabama men’s basketball forward Alex Tchikou recently announced his entrance to the NCAA transfer portal. Today, via his Twitter, Tchikou made his decision public. He will be continuing his collegiate basketball career at the University of Rhode Island.

Tchikou, a native of Paris, France, committed to the Crimson Tide as a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He did not see the court much, only appearing in three games, but was likely a part of head coach Nate Oats’ future plans for the program.

The 6’11 forward kept the announcement short. He did not mention Oats or anything relating to the University of Alabama.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the offseason continues.

Way-too-early Top 25 CBB rankings for 2022-2023 are high on Alabama

Tide Hoops may start the season with an impressive spot in the top-25 team rankings!

Alabama men’s basketball had a rough 2021-2022 season. Sure, the program as a whole is improving, which can be seen by the mere fact the team was a lock to make the NCAA Men’s Tournament when Selection Sunday came around – no more ‘bubble watch.’

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag]’ team, however, had a really ugly end to the regular season, followed by a horrible loss to Vanderbilt in the opening round of the SEC tournament and finally it all came to an end when Notre Dame took down the Crimson Tide in the Round of 64 in March Madness.

Kansas took down North Carolina in the national title game, which means college basketball is now officially in the offseason. What this really means is that it’s time to try and predict the future.

Jeff Borzello of ESPN released his “Way-too-early top 25 CBB rankings” for the start of the 2022-2023 season.

As difficult to watch Alabama’s season was to watch, Borzello has the Crimson Tide opening up the year as the No. 15 team in the nation. In fact, he would have them even higher if it wasn’t for [autotag]Jaden Shackelford[/autotag]’s recent announcement that he would be entering the 2022 NBA draft.

Borzello writes,

“Before Jaden Shackelford’s decision on Sunday to enter the NBA draft — with a statement that doesn’t indicate much of an interest in returning to Tuscaloosa — I had the Crimson Tide ranked inside the top 10. Now, they drop several spots, but I still like Nate Oats’ team. Jahvon Quinerly is back, as are three other key members of the Alabama rotation. A lot of the optimism stems from an elite recruiting class that features five-star prospects Jaden Bradley and Brandon Miller, as well as ESPN 100 recruits Rylan Griffen and Noah Clowney. We also have to wait and see whether JD Davison and Keon Ellis — two projected draft picks — will return to Tuscaloosa for another season.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Crimson Tide basketball over the offseason, as well as former players in the NBA.

Alabama MBB is first team out in latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

Alabama just misses the cut, but a win against Auburn would certainly change that!

Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide now have five wins against ranked opponents in the 2021-2022 college basketball season, which ties Marquette for the most ranked-wins in all of college basketball.

Despite defeating three of last season’s Final Four teams, the Crimson Tide fall just outside of the top-25 in the latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll.

Losses in games where Alabama was expected to win easily have hurt the team, but there’s still plenty of time left before the NCAA Tournament to turn things around and establish an identity.

The Crimson Tide will next face Auburn on the road tomorrow, a win would certainly be a statement for this team.

A look at the full Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports:

Noah Gurley’s double-double propels Tide past Vols; Bama wins SEC opener 73-68

Great start for the Crimson Tide in SEC play!

Nate Oats had a lot to say last week about his teams performance as of late. He didn’t hold back.

That translated on the court today as the Crimson Tide (10-3) (1-0) took on No. 14 Tennessee at home in the SEC conference opener.

In earning a 73-68 win, Alabama begins conference play with a 1-0 record and a third win over a Quad 1 opponent in the NET rankings.

Furman transfer Noah Gurley recorded his best game of the year in the win, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Jahvon Quinerly finished the game with 18 points. Jaden Shackelford provided 12 points for the Tide while Keon Ellis contributed nine.

As a team, the Tide shot good enough at 43.3% FG. The three balls weren’t dropping much tonight, hitting on just 22%, but they dropped when it mattered toward the end. Ellis hit a pair of critical threes down the stretch to put Alabama up by two with :46 on the clock.

In the end, the real battle was on the boards. Alabama held the advantage at the end with a 43-35 edge.

The Crimson Tide defense looked much improved in this one relative to the lack thereof in the previous three contests.

Tennessee hit on just 34% of their shots from the floor, including 24% from three-point range.

Alabama continues onward with a 1-0 record to start SEC competition.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is a road game in Gainesville against the Florida Gators on Jan. 5.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for all the latest on the Crimson Tide!
