Alabama Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Crimson Tide miss from the SEC West slate?

What do you give the program that has everything? How about a schedule against the SEC East that doesn’t include Georgia, or Florida, and even a dangerous Kentucky?

Alabama also misses South Carolina and Missouri, ad that means it gets the nicest gift possible – home against Vanderbilt.

However, its annual date with Tennessee is on the road, and that’s coming off the showdown against Texas A&M.

Alabama Football Schedule What To Know: There’s actually some work to do

No, there’s no Georgia or Florida, and Texas A&M has to come to Bryant-Denny, but there’s plenty to worry about.

Remember, Alabama lives in the high-rent district. Anything less than at least an 11-1 regular season slate won’t do, and even that might be disappointing. However …

At Texas, at Arkansas, at Tennessee, at LSU, at Ole Miss.

Five road games, five – potentially – dangerous attacks in five totally different ways, and five very, very dangerous landmines to sidestep.

Alabama Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

For just about anyone else this is a 9-3 schedule if everything goes right, but with a 7-5 run lurking for a strong team and 5-7 concerns for a weaker Power Five program.

Of course, it’s Alabama, so go 12-0 or go home.

However, there’s a whole lot to be worried about among those five road games, especially with LSU and Ole Miss on back-to-back weeks to close out a run of Texas A&M followed by three road games in four dates.

As always in the SEC, it’s about how many body blows can a team take before they all add up into a tough loss?

Throw in the Mike Leach Mississippi State attack and the regular season finale against Auburn, and again, Alabama has to go to work.

Rat Poison: 2 overrated opponents on Alabama’s 2021 schedule

These two teams on Alabama’s schedule may not be as solid as they appear to be…

The Alabama Crimson Tide is known for playing every opponent with the same mindset: the goal is to win regardless of the other team’s record. Head coach Nick Saban calls out the media for writing “rat poison,” and gets mad at his players for buying into it.

Well, consider this rat poison.

The 2021 USA TODAY Sports’ AFCA Preseason Coaches Poll was released Tuesday. While Alabama owns the top spot, a handful of Crimson Tide opponents made the top 25.

Erick Smith of USA TODAY named five teams that were featured on the coaches poll, but could be considered overrated. Two of the five teams are on Alabama’s 2021 schedule.

No. 25 Mississippi – Smith argues Ole Miss has a strong offense but is held back by its lackluster defense, which proved an issue last season. He also believes that while the offense outshines the defense, questions surround young receivers and an unproven quarterback, Matt Corral.

No. 16 Miami (FL) – This is the season-opening contest for both teams, and they will face off in Atlanta. The Hurricanes’ defense has been strong in recent seasons, but had plenty of talent leave in the 2021 NFL draft. Plenty of unanswered questions surround the team’s NIL-happy quarterback, D’Eriq King, who suffered a torn ACL in Miami’s final game of the 2020 season.

Now, this isn’t to say these teams aren’t good. They are both storied and respected teams in college football that haven’t had the best luck in recent years, but are now finding success again.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to publish information regarding the Crimson Tide and 2021 opponents.

2021 Alabama Football Schedule

Alabama Crimson Tide Football Schedule Analysis: It’s just difficult enough to expect a loss if the Tide aren’t 2020 amazing with four landmines – Miami, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn – away from Tuscaloosa, and throw Mississippi State in there.

It’s a ten-win slate just by this team showing up, but four of the first seven games are away from home. Get through that clean, and it’s smooth sailing going from October 23 until the finish without leaving the great state of Alabama.

Best Case Scenario: 12-0. It’s Alabama, so going unbeaten is a real expectation – obviously. Get through Miami and Florida early on, survive the likely shootout against Ole Miss, and don’t bog down against Texas A&M. The week off comes at the perfect time in late October.

Worst Case Scenario: 10-2. It’s going to take something special to beat this team once, much less twice, but in this case, the Tide lose at Florida and/or Texas A&M, and drop another date against an improved LSU or in a wacky firefight against Ole Miss or Mississippi State.

5. SEC 10-Game Schedule. The Basics …

The SEC finally decided what it’s going to do. It’s going to follow the Big Ten and Pac-12 and keep everything in its own house with a ten-game conference-only schedule.

From the SEC, here are the key points …

– Everything is supposed to start on September 26th. That means some early SEC matchups will have to be moved around, but the later date will give everyone a chance to see how the NFL is handling things and it buys more time overall to come up with the best possible practices.

– No non-conference games. More on this in a moment, but it’s going to be all-SEC, all of the time. There are some out there already complaining about this, but that’s just silly. Ten SEC teams, ten games, no fluff.

– SEC Championship moved to December 19. This allows more time and more flexibility, and it also finally means we can dispense with the bullspit talking point that the College Football Playoff can’t be expanded with a first round being played in mid-December.

As of now, everyone gets a week off in the middle of the season and time off on December 12th.
