Miami Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Hurricanes miss from the ACC slate?

There aren’t a lot of breaks.

The Hurricanes don’t have to deal with Notre Dame, but they have to face Clemson, Florida State, and NC State – likely the three best teams in the ACC. At least the date with the Tigers is at home, but the Seminoles and Wolfpack are on the road.

On the plus side, they don’t have to face Pitt or Duke – the Blue Devils should be dangerous this year. Missing Wake Forest isn’t bad, but not getting to play Syracuse and Virginia Tech isn’t a positive.

Miami Football Schedule: What Really Matters

The finishing kick isn’t fun.

The lone road game until mid-October is at Temple – that’s not bad – but there’s a price to pay late.

In a perfect world, Miami misses the road games in cold weather locations, and it has to go to Boston College in the final regular season game.

That comes at the end of a rough November of three road games in the final four with back-to-back games at NC State and Florida State. That’s all after back-to-back games at North Carolina at at home against Clemson.

Miami Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

It’s not horrible, but there are just enough landmines to keep this from being a special campaign.

Texas A&M in non-conference play is a problem – even if the Aggies are coming to Hard Rock – and Clemson, at NC State, at Florida State, and at North Carolina are dangerous.

Even so, it would be a total disaster if Miami didn’t get bowl eligible with ease – a 5-0 start is possible with a win over Texas A&M – but it’ll all come down to being able to hold up in November.

Miami Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Hurricanes miss from the Atlantic Division?

Hey, Mario Cristobal. Welcome to the new job. As a gift, the ACC is giving you a road game at Clemson late in the year to go along with the rivalry date against Florida State.

The Hurricanes miss NC State and Wake Forest – along with Boston College, Louisville, and Syracuse – but having to go to Death Valley is a killer because …

Miami Football Schedule What To Know: The road games aren’t all brutal, but …

There’s no shaming Miami for starting the season with Bethune-Cookman, Southern Miss, and Middle Tennessee as the first three home dates. Why?

Before facing the Blue Raiders, they have to go to Texas A&M. That’s the first road date, Clemson is the last game away from Hard Rock, and there’s a run of four road games in six weeks that should be trying before closing out the regular season against Pitt.

Miami Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

Getting North Carolina, Florida State, and Pitt at home certainly helps, and going to Virginia Tech, Virgina, and Georgia Tech isn’t that bad. There will be a few misfires along the way, but there’s no excuse to not come up with a winning season with relative ease.

The key will be to get up to speed with the first two warm-up games before going to Texas A&M. If the Hurricanes can at least split between the Aggies and Clemson, it’ll be a huge year.

Rat Poison: 2 overrated opponents on Alabama’s 2021 schedule

These two teams on Alabama’s schedule may not be as solid as they appear to be…

The Alabama Crimson Tide is known for playing every opponent with the same mindset: the goal is to win regardless of the other team’s record. Head coach Nick Saban calls out the media for writing “rat poison,” and gets mad at his players for buying into it.

Well, consider this rat poison.

The 2021 USA TODAY Sports’ AFCA Preseason Coaches Poll was released Tuesday. While Alabama owns the top spot, a handful of Crimson Tide opponents made the top 25.

Erick Smith of USA TODAY named five teams that were featured on the coaches poll, but could be considered overrated. Two of the five teams are on Alabama’s 2021 schedule.

No. 25 Mississippi – Smith argues Ole Miss has a strong offense but is held back by its lackluster defense, which proved an issue last season. He also believes that while the offense outshines the defense, questions surround young receivers and an unproven quarterback, Matt Corral.

No. 16 Miami (FL) – This is the season-opening contest for both teams, and they will face off in Atlanta. The Hurricanes’ defense has been strong in recent seasons, but had plenty of talent leave in the 2021 NFL draft. Plenty of unanswered questions surround the team’s NIL-happy quarterback, D’Eriq King, who suffered a torn ACL in Miami’s final game of the 2020 season.

Now, this isn’t to say these teams aren’t good. They are both storied and respected teams in college football that haven’t had the best luck in recent years, but are now finding success again.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to publish information regarding the Crimson Tide and 2021 opponents.

Games vs. The Atlantic: at Florida State, NC State

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Analysis: Starting your season off with Alabama is never a positive, and the Hurricanes aren’t taking it easy with Appalachian State and Michigan State – fine, so it’s not that bad, especially compared to Alabama – before getting a week off again Central Connecticut. However, considering the date against the Tide is in Atlanta, there isn’t a true road game until mid-October.

However, the Canes have to go to North Carolina and Pitt, and the date with Florida State is on the road. There aren’t two home games in a row among the last seven.

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 10-2. The Canes will almost certainly drop the opener to the Tide, and assume a misfire at North Carolina or maybe against Virginia Tech or NC State, but that’s about it. There isn’t a game that’s not winnable after Week 1, and if Miami is sharp, it can roll through the slate. Or …

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 7-5. Start with the loss to Bama, and it could get worse with Michigan State rising up in Hard Rock for a win. Throw in a loss at North Carolina, add a few defeats against maybe Virginia Tech or at Pitt, and on the wrong day there could be a loss at Florida State on the way to a wildly disappointing run.
