The 2021-22 men’s college basketball season is less than a day old and we’ve already had an absolute banger of an ending.
The No. 17 Ohio State Buckeyes tipped off their season against the unranked Akron Zips on Tuesday in a game that should have been a breeze for one of the best teams in the country. Instead, however, the game was a close affair, with Ohio State leading Akron by three in the final 10 seconds of the game. With the Zips hopes down to one final shot, Ali Ali threw up a beautiful three-point attempt that landed to tie the game.
Not only that, there was a foul on the play too, which meant Akron took the lead 66-65 on a four-point swing in the dying seconds of the game and was poised for the upset.

Not so fast, however, as Ohio State was able to retake the lead 67-66 at the buzzer on an incredible tip in after threading through the Akron defense.

What a wild turn of events! And what heartbreak for Akron to have victory nearly assured but were unable to stop Ohio State’s offense on one last attack.
Here’s how Ohio State radio called Zed Key’s game-winning layup that helped the Buckeyes avoid disaster in November.
