NFL Draft: Best available team fits for Vikings on Day 3

With day three of the NFL Draft upon us, @TheKevinFielder looks at the best prospect fits for the Minnesota Vikings.

There’s an age-old saying that Super Bowls are built on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.

The thinking behind that is built on the number of picks on Day 3 and the players that might be available. While teams select potential stars in the first round, the role players to help win teams’ games are drafted later.

The good news for the Minnesota Vikings is that they’ll have five selections on Day 3 after trading down with the San Francisco 49ers near the end of the third round.

The Vikings will first be on the clock with the 119th overall pick in the fourth round. Following the trade with the 49ers, the Vikings also have two fifth-round picks (No. 158 and 164), a sixth (No. 211), and a seventh-round selection (No. 222).

After two days of the NFL Draft, here are the best remaining fits for the Vikings.

10 best players for Jaguars to target in Day 3

The Jaguars still have 10 picks in the 2023 NFL draft. Here are 10 prospects who would make sense for the team:

The Jacksonville Jaguars surprised most when they opted not to address any of their defensive needs and instead picking offensive tackle Anton Harrison, tight end Brenton Strange, and running back Tank Bigsby in the first three rounds, respectively.

After accumulating 10 picks in rounds four through seven, the Jaguars still have a chance to address a lot of areas before the weekend is over.

But finding a star in Day 3 is tough.

Here are 10 players who stand out as prospects that could interest the Jaguars in rounds four, five, six, and seven:

2023 NFL draft: Best available prospects for Giants on Day 3

As we enter Day 3 of the 2023 NFL draft, here are some of the best available prospects for the New York Giants (who will have four picks).

The New York Giants were very active over the first two days of the 2023 NFL draft, making a pair of trades and acquiring three top players and potential starters.

Because of general manager Joe Schoen’s wheeling and dealing, the Giants have just four picks remaining over the final four rounds. Their next pick does not come until No. 172 overall (Round 5). However, don’t rule out another trade up.

Here are some of the best available prospects for Big Blue on Day 3.

2023 NFL Draft: Fourth-round mock shows great level of talent for the third day

The third day of the 2023 NFL draft will be filled with second- and third-round talent, and this fourth-round mock illustrates just that.

Things tens to change for NFL teams when the third day of the draft gets underway. Now, it’s generally less about filling the positions of need with impact players, and more about a round-robin of talent, where you’re trying to get the best players available, and you can deal with the fit after the fact. That’s not to say that fit isn’t a factor, but now, it’s about who can do what in general from an athletic and football standpoint.

The third day of the draft starts with the fourth round, of course, and in the fourth rounds of recent drafts, teams have come away with more than enough estimable talent for teams to know that it’s best to keep one’s eye on the ball.

Kirk Cousins, Geno Atkins, David Bakhtiari, Dak Prescott, K.J. Wright, De’Vondre Campbell, and Za’Darius Smith are among those players who could attest to that.

The 2023 draft in particular presents a group of third-day talent with second- and third-round grades, which makes it quite exciting. In this fourth-round mock draft, you will find players much better than that fixed designation — it’s just where they happened to fall in their draft class.

Best available defensive players for the Eagles in Rounds 2-3 of the 2023 NFL draft

We’re looking at the best available defensive prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles to watch on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft.

After a fantastic opening night, the Eagles are slated to have two selections on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, with picks Nos. 62 and 66.

Philadelphia forfeited their fourth-round pick via trade and will have no choices in Rounds four, five, or six.

With the second and third rounds set to kick off on Friday night, Philadelphia could look to add more defensive firepower to the roster with an already stacked offensive unit.

2023 NFL draft: 15 targets for Chargers on Day 2

Here are 15 targets the Chargers could look to pounce on Friday night.

After selecting TCU WR Quentin Johnston with the 21st overall pick, the Chargers have filled one of their biggest positional needs.

Heading into Day 2, a number of players who could fill the rest of the holes on Los Angeles’ roster remain on the board.

Here are 15 targets the Bolts could look to pounce on later today.

7 players worth trading up for if they continue to slide

They did it in 2021 for Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, they could do it again.

There is quite a bit of talent still left on the board as the 2023 NFL draft carries on into night two. For the Cleveland Browns, they will have to wait for another 43 picks before they come on the clock, making much of the available talent a pipe dream. With needs at wide receiver, defensive tackle, defensive end, safety, and linebacker, they could go in any direction to address those needs.

While some talent might be out of their range, the Browns have six day three picks they could package up to move up in the draft if a player they are high on slips down the board.

Here are seven players that could fit that bill.

Mock draft roundup: Who experts have the Saints picking in 2023 draft week

We’re just days away from the 2023 NFL draft, but there’s little consensus for the New Orleans Saints pick at No. 29 in the latest mock drafts:

We’re just days away from the start of the 2023 NFL draft, but there’s little consensus for what the New Orleans Saints will do with their first-round pick at No. 29. There’s widespread agreement that the Saints will look to add a defensive lineman — and a couple of prospects are popular, like Myles Murphy (Clemson), Adetomiwa Adebawore (Northwestern), Calijah Kancey (Pittsburgh), and Bryan Bresee (Clemson). But there’s no single name standing out from the pack.

But there’s some variance at play. Some outlets have the Saints bringing in another pass-catcher at tight end or wide receiver to surround Derek Carr with more weapons. That could be a smart play, but there’s no question that the defensive line is a greater area of need. Here’s a quick roundup of last-minute media mock drafts:

Saints make an on-brand pick in latest Pro Football Focus mock draft

The Saints made an on-brand pick in the latest Pro Football Focus mock draft, selecting athletic Northwestern defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore:

We’re a week out from the 2023 NFL draft, and things are beginning to settle for the New Orleans Saints at No. 29 overall. Almost any mock draft you check out has the Saints picking a defensive lineman — including this projection from Pro Football Focus analyst Mike Renner, who likes the Saints to select Northwestern Wildcats defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore.

He points out that Adebawore is the sort of prospect New Orleans values highly, writing:

Adebawore is the type of long and explosive defensive lineman that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has prioritized over his tenure. He has outside/inside versatility as well, and the Saints could use help at both.

Adebawore is underweight for a Saints defensive tackle at 6-foot-1.5 and 282 pounds, but his 33.8-inch arms and elite numbers in athletic testing project well to the NFL. If they can get his weight up to north of 290 pounds without sacrificing the agility that makes him so special, he’ll be a problem. The issue is that he’s all projection in that role. Northwestern lined him up at the edge of the line rather than along the interior, which he’s mainly been doing in pre-draft workouts and Senior Bowl practices — and doing it well, mind you.

So while Adebawore alone won’t cure what ails the Saints up front, he could go a long way towards finishing the reboot at defensive tackle. Having Khalen Saunders entrenched at nose tackle with Nathan Shepherd in the lineup next to him is a strong duo. Add Adebawore as a pass-rushing three-technique and bring another veteran in to push Malcolm Roach for that fourth roster spot and you’ve got something special brewing.

Northwestern edge rusher Adetomiwa Adebawore a player to watch for the Eagles

Northwestern edge rusher Adetomiwa Adebawore is reportedly a prospect that Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman “absolutely loves.” ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Northwestern edge rusher Adetomiwa Adebawore made our list of prospects the Eagles should avoid, but one NFL draft analyst believes he has a massive fan in Howie Roseman.

During a recent episode of Pro Football Network Football Insiders with Trey Wingo, and Brett Yarris, Tony Pauline was asked about some of the top prospects rising up draft boards.

Pauline mentioned Philadelphia as a team to watch for the Northwestern pass rusher.

“I’m told that Howie Roseman absolutely loves the guy.”

Adebawore had solid stats during his final season at Northwestern (5.0 sacks, 9.0 tackles for loss), and he offers versatility for an Eagles defensive line that likes to employ multiple fronts.

Roseman loves athletes, and Adebawore was one of the best at the combine.

He ran a faster 10-yard split and 40-yard dash than Travon Walker while weighing 10 pounds heavier. His size allows him to play anything from a 3-technique to a 5-technique. Even with Fletcher Cox back, the Eagles gravitate toward such versatile athletes in the trenches.

A hybrid defender in the mode of Brandon Graham, Adebawore played 449 snaps in an edge position last season vs. 263 on the interior, according to Pro Football Focus.

His quickness and athleticism would allow the versatile defender to mesh well with Jordan Davis and Milton Williams.
