Ravens elevate five practice squad players to active roster for Week 15 game vs. Packers

The Ravens elevated five practice squad players to their active roster for their Week 15 matchup with the Packers

The Baltimore Ravens have needed to get creative over the course of the 2021 season due to the many injuries that they’ve suffered. From bringing in multiple new faces to having a next man up mentality, they’ve been able to will themselves to an 8-5 record and the top spot in the AFC North through 14 weeks.

On Saturday, it was announced that Baltimore elevated five players from their practice squad to their active roster in offensive lineman Jaryd Jones-Smith, David Shapre and Adam Redmond, as well as defensive backs Robert Jackson and Tony Jefferson.

Calling up three offensive lineman is in response to multiple players on their line being out or game-time decisions, including starting guard Ben Powers and backup center Trystan Colon.

Jefferson gets the call after less than one week back with the team after signing to the practice squad on Monday, while Jackson has now been called up for three week in a row.

Ravens have two OL in for tryouts on Tuesday

The Ravens tried out two offensive linemen on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens have been shuffling around their offensive line in a big way throughout the 2021 season. While they’ve moved around players on their starting group, they’ve also been shuffling their depth around, as they’ve needed to rely on contributions from multiple players.

On Tuesday, Baltimore brought in two centers for tryouts in Luke Juriga and Adam Redmond. The team might be looking at depth at center due to the fact that starting center Bradley Bozeman left the Ravens’ Week 6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers with a back injury.

Redmond went undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft, and has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills, the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. He has appeared in 18 games over the course of his career.

Juriga went undrafted in 2020, but signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent the last year with them before being waived/injured in August of 2021. He appeared in 13 games last season.

Bears sign OL Adam Redmond, waive OL Gage Cervenka

The Bears signed former Cowboys OL Adam Redmond and waived OL Gage Cervenka, the team announced Wednesday.

The Chicago Bears signed former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Adam Redmond and waived offensive lineman Gage Cervenka, the team announced Wednesday.

Redmond, a former undrafted free agent with the Colts in 2016, has appeared in 18 games as a reserve for Indianapolis in 2017, and the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 and 2020.

Redmond spent part of his rookie season on the Colts’ practice squad, where he later appeared in the first four games of the 2017 season.

But it was Redmond’s time with Dallas where he saw his most action. He joined the Cowboys in 2018, where he appeared in a career-high 10 games. Last season, he rejoined Dallas, where he played in four games. Redmond was waived by the Cowboys earlier this month.

Cowboys trimmed 4 players from the roster this week

The Cowboys made six total cuts this week, including four at one time. Find out who all the Cowboys are releasing.

The Cowboys have begun the grueling selection process that eventually ends with just 53 men left on the roster. To get to 53, Dallas must first get to just 90 names, and the club officially hit that mark after releasing six total players on Friday.

C Adam Redmond, DT Walter Palmore, DE Ladarius Hamilton, and CB Kemon Hall were all officially released by the Cowboys.

DT Antwuan Woods and CB Saivion Smith were the first players let go by Dallas, and that news was quickly followed by the announcement of the release of the four names above.

Three of Dallas’ six cuts this week have already been added by other teams, as Smith, Hall, and Hamilton were claimed off waivers by the Seahawks, Chargers and the Buccaneers, respectively. There is still a possibility that the unclaimed Redmond, Woods, or Palmore rejoin the Cowboys at some point this offseason.

Other than Woods, none of the releases have come as major surprises to Cowboys fans, as the club needed to make room for the 24 total players added last week through the draft and undrafted free agency.

Redmond was the most tenured Cowboys cut, as he had spent the majority of time since 2018 on Dallas’ practice squad.

For Hall, just like Smith, the writing was on the wall after Dallas’ new defensive regime added two cornerbacks on Day 2 of the NFL draft with Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright.

Like the corners above, there was just not much room for Hamilton after the Cowboys added Chauncey Golston and Osa Odighizuwa in the third round of the draft.

Last year, the NFL roster size for training camp was set at 80, though it remains to be seen if this years training camp will be treated the same way. Dallas has a number of tough decisions in front of them as they slowly form their 53-man roster.

Cowboys’ Biadasz returns from IR, backup released, 2 elevated from PS

The Cowboys activated C Tyler Biadasz, released C Adam Redmond, and elevated two members of the practice squad.

The Dallas Cowboys neverending roster shuffle continued Saturday.

The club activated center Tyler Biadasz from injured reserve, released center Adam Redmond, and elevated their two weekly practice squad call ups to help round out two positions that have been assaulted with injuries over the course of the season. CB Chris Westry and OT William Sweet will make their professional debuts.

Cowboys fans should be delighted to hear of Biadasz’ return. The impressive rookie stepped into the full-time center role in Week 4, and started every game through Week 8, before injuring his hamstring in warmups the next week, landing him on the IR.

As just a fourth-round pick, Biadasz has exceeded most expectations fans had for his rookie season.

This year the former Badger has already flashed the traits that allowed him to become Wisconsin’s first Rimington Award winner last year, an honor that Travis Frederick didn’t even take home during his time in Madison. Earlier this year, PFF named Biadasz as the center on their midseason All-Rookie team.

It remains to be seen whether Biadasz immediately returns to the starting lineup, but either way the rookie will continue to gain valuable experience that should help him anchor the Cowboys line for years to come.

To create the roster spot for Biadasz, the Cowboys released backup center Adam Redmond. Redmond is likely to return to the Dallas practice squad should he clear waivers.

Lastly, the Cowboys utilized the provision allowing them to elevate two practice squad players to the active roster for an upcoming game.

Meanwhile Sweet will provide tackle depth behind Brandon Knight and Terrance Steele for Dallas, who is without their top four tackles. The same goes for Westry, who may be forced into playing time as the Cowboys are out four of their top five defensive backs as they travel to Cincinnati Sunday.

Cowboys sign Adam Redmond, elevate two CBs ahead Thanksgiving

The Dallas Cowboys a number of minor roster moves, including signing C Adam Redmond, and promoting CB’s Deante Burton and Rashard Robinson.

The Dallas Cowboys made a few roster maneuvers ahead of Thursday’s crucial Thanksgiving showdown with the Washington Football Team. The club had to address their continued issues with depth along the offensive line and in the secondary. Using the league’s roster rules to their fullest, they have a bit more solid footing going into the game on a short week.

After being elevated from the practice squad the previous two games, the Cowboys signed Center Adam Redmond to the 53-man roster. With Tyler Biadasz hitting IR last week, Redmond will continue to backup Joe Looney.

Every week each team can promote two practice squad players the day before that club’s game starts, and Dallas used both of these two extra roster spots this week to add depth to the defensive backfield, as CB Anthony Brown is not expected to suit up at this point, even though Brown is listed as questionable.

Cornerbacks Deante Burton and Rashard Robinson were both elevated to the active roster on Wednesday.

Burton saw 13 special teams snaps in his lone call up this season during Dallas’ Week 3 loss to Seattle. Robinson, a fourth-round pick by the 49ers in 2016, played his first snaps of the year in the Cowboys recent win over Minnesota.

Linebacker Luke Gifford was officially placed on the Reserve/Suspended list on Tuesday after violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. The loss of Gifford cleared the roster space that was used to sign Redmond.[listicle id=656934][lawrence-newsletter]

Cowboys activate OT Brandon Knight, add Tyler Biadasz to IR

The Cowboys activated Brandon Knight from the IR, and sent Tyler Biadasz to the IR, and revealed the two weekly practice squad call ups.

On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys made a number of roster transactions. It’s become custom this season, as expanded practice squads and relaxed rules have allowed every NFL team to make roster changes at the last minute each week.

For Week 11, more of the same. Tackle Brandon Knight was activated from injured reserve, center Tyler Biadasz was placed on the injured reserve, and the team announced their two practice squad promotions ahead of Sunday’s matchup in Minnesota.

Knight started at tackle from Week 2 through Week 6 for Dallas. In his lone non-start in that timespan, against Cleveland, Knight entered the game at halftime for right tackle Terrance Steele and was an immediate improvement. Knight injured his knee and required surgery following the Cowboys’ Week 6 loss to Arizona.

Overall Knight has done an adequate job filling in on both the right and left sides, and while he might not be named a starter in his first week back, the majority of Cowboys pundits believe Knight’s efforts earlier this year earned him the right to close out the year as one of the two starting tackles.

Biadasz was thrust into a starting role at center as a rookie, and he proved why many people thought Dallas made an excellent pick when they selected the him in the fourth round in April. After starting Week 4 through Week 8, Biadasz injured his hamstring in the pre-game warm up just before the Cowboys took on the Steelers.

Joe Looney recently returned from the IR, and will continue to anchor the offensive line at the center position for Dallas.

The former Badger would be eligible to return in early December following the Cowboys Week 13 date with the Ravens.

This season the NFL has given each team the ability to promote two practice squad members just before that teams game each week. This week the Cowboys promoted cornerback Rashard Robinson, and center Adam Redmond to improve the interior line depth.

Devin Smith headlines first wave of Cowboys roster cuts

The Cowboys have begun their final roster cuts, as Adam Redmond, Devin Smith, and Clayton Thorson were released Wednesday.

The final date for NFL teams to trim their rosters down to 53 men is this Saturday, September 5 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. The Dallas Cowboys have already begun making the hard decisions and thinning out the squad, as they released seven players Wednesday.

All of the cuts came on the offensive side of the ball. The 24-hour rule is not in effect for waiver regulations when it comes to final roster cuts. All players released over the next few days will clear waivers on Sunday and will then be eligible for the revised practice squad rules. In 2020, teams can have 16-man practice squads. Two players per week can be promoted to the active roster, four players per week can be protected from other teams poaching and up to six players with unlimited accrued seasons (veterans) can be on the squad.

Devin Smith

Perhaps the most notable of the releases is Smith. The former Buckeye appeared in the first four games of the 2019 season for the Cowboys, andeven caught a 51-yard touchdown from Dak Prescott in week 2 against division rivals Washington.

This minor success a year ago led many to believe Smith would have a roster spot as either the fourth or fifth wide receiver, but players like Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown had excellent training camp performances and left Smith as the odd man out.

Adam Redmond

Despite appearing in 10 games two seasons ago, the Cowboys didn’t have room for a third center in Redmond. Redmond is another player who had appeared on some final roster projections, but his release shows the confidence the Cowboys have in Joe Looney, Tyler Biadasz, and even Connor McGovern should Dallas need an emergency backup at the position. The Harvard graduate is another strong candidate for the practice squad.

Clayton Thorson

The least surprising of the three Wednesday cuts is Thorson. Thorson never made it pas the Cowboys practice squad in his lone year in Dallas. Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton are set in stone at the position. Rookie Ben DiNucci is now in line to be the third Cowboys quarterback should they choose to keep that many.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the club also released offensive tackles Pace Murphy, Mitch Hyatt and Wyatt Miller – the latter two waived injured. The team also parted with UDFA Charlie Taumoepeau.

Adam Redmond’s versatility may make him keeper for Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the deepest, and most versatile, offensive lines in the league, and Adam Redmond can be part of that depth.

The NFL season seems right around the corner. When the Dallas Cowboys eventually line up to play, they will have one of the top rated offensive lines in the league. It’s a deep and talented group and some of the best training camp batted should be along the offensive line.

Veteran interior lineman Adam Redmond will be among those fighting for a job. Redmond is in his fifth-year after playing his college football at Harvard, earning All-Ivy League honors in 2015.

Although Redmond has played primarily at guard in the NFL, he has experience at both center and guard positions. The versatility is something the Cowboys really like in their offensive lineman and Redmond fits the bill.

Redmond came into the league as an undrafted free agent singed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. He was cut and added to the practice squad in both 2016 and 2017, before finally getting his shot in September of 2017. He appeared in four regular season games with the Colts before they released him.

The Buffalo Bills were the next stop for Redmond, but he never appeared in a game with the team.

Just before the 2018 season, the Cowboys scooped up Redmond and he appeared in 10 games in a reserve role for Dallas. He never saw game action in 2019 and a back injury led to his year ending on injured-reserve in November.

Redmond was brought back by the Cowboys in March on a one-year deal.

It looks like a tough road for Redmond to make Dallas’ roster, but he’ll be in competition to earn a spot on the interior of the teams’ rotation. The Cowboys don’t currently have a starting center of left guard set in stone and Redmond could make his mark at either spot.

When Travis Frederick retired, the starting center gig became available and even though Connor Williams was named the starter at LG the last two seasons, his name is far from etched in pen in 2020. There’s a new offensive coaching staff and line coach Joe Philbin should be giving everyone a look.

There are at least four names for two starting positions on the Cowboys’ offensive line. The center and LG jobs are up for grabs and the front runners are Tyler Biadasz, Connor McGovern, Joe Looney and Williams. Redmond is hoping to make his case as well.

Whoever doesn’t win a spot in the starting lineup will make excellent back-ups and create depth for the Cowboys. That’s where Redmond will likely earn his place on the roster, as a versatile substitute capable of playing more than one position.

Redmond’s shown enough grit and fight to not only make it to the NFL coming out of an Ivy League school, but also to stick around. It wouldn’t be wise to count him out just yet.

Cowboys bring back third FA of offseason

The Cowboys bring back a young OL member to try and keep the party going.

The Dallas Cowboys have a plethora of offseason free agents they need to address, and they come in all shapes, sizes and statuses. QB Dak Prescott, WR Amari Cooper, CB Byron Jones and DE Robert Quinn get all of the headlines, but they are hardly the only decisions the club needs to render verdict on. No, they are just four of 25 unrestricted free agents and the club has another entire subset to decide on before the market opens up on March 18.

Earlier in the month, the team indicated they were going to place tenders on restricted free agents TE Blake Jarwin and QB Cooper Rush. Now, they’ve indicated they are going to bring back reserve lineman Adam Redmond to help ensure continuity among the backups on the offensive line.

Redmond did not dress for a single game for the Cowboys last season, after being active for 10 games in 2018. Thanks to only appearing in four games with Indianapolis  in 2017, he has only accrued two seasons towards free agency, thus his ERFA status. Players with three years towards free agency are restricted free agents (Jarwin, Rush) and players with four years or more are unrestricted free agents (Prescott-4, Cooper-5).

Bringing back Redmond is imperative, as Joe Looney and Xavier Su’a-Filo are the primary interior backups and both are UFAs this offseason. Dallas has third-round pick Conner McGovern in line to be the main swing interior, but they normally like to keep either 3 or 4 OL backups on the roster.

Rosters will expand from 53 to 55 if the new CBA is ratified, so there could be more help in the trenches there as well.
