Packers elevate OLB La’Darius Hamilton from practice squad to gameday roster for Week 11

The Packers elevated OLB La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 11 against the Titans.

The Green Bay Packers elevated outside linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 11. The move was announced Thursday, making Hamilton available for Matt LaFleur and the Packers for Thursday night’s showdown with the Tennessee Titans.

This will be the third and final practice squad elevation for Hamilton.

The Packers previously elevated Hamilton for games against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8 and Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.

Overall, Hamilton has played 19 snaps on defense and 21 on special teams this season.

The Packers need the depth at outside linebacker behind Preston Smith, Jonathan Garvin and JJ Enagbare. Rashan Gary is on injured reserve, and Tipa Galeai hasn’t been activated to the 53-man roster.

Unlike last week, the Packers did not elevate kicker Ramiz Ahmed, suggesting Mason Crosby is back to full health after dealing with a short-term back injury. Ahmed handled kickoffs last week against the Cowboys.

The Packers also didn’t need to elevate a wide receiver from the practice squad after activating veteran Randall Cobb from injured reserve on Thursday. The team didn’t bring up Dede Westbrook, who was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, so Keisean Nixon is expected to be the punt returner in place of Amari Rodgers.

All teams are allowed to elevate up to two players from the practice squad each week. An individual player can only be elevated from the practice squad three times per season, so Hamilton has no more elevations available this season. On Friday, Hamilton will revert back to the practice squad.

Packers elevate OLB La’Darius Hamilton, K Ramiz Ahmed from practice squad to gameday roster for Week 10

The Packers elevated OLB La’Darius Hamilton and K Ramiz Ahmed from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 10 against the Cowboys.

The Green Bay Packers elevated outside linebacker La’Darius Hamilton and kicker Ramiz Ahmed from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 10. The move was announced Saturday, making Hamilton and Ahmed available for Matt LaFleur and the Packers for Sunday’s showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

Injuries likely necessitated both elevations.

Hamilton, who was previously elevated in Week 8 against the Bills, will provide depth at outside linebacker after the Packers lost Rashan Gary to a season-ending injury in Detroit. The Packers didn’t activate Tipa Galeai from injured reserve to the 53-man roster, so Hamilton could play important snaps as a top backup on Sunday.

In Buffalo, Hamilton played 14 snaps on defense and 11 more on special teams.

At kicker, veteran Mason Crosby popped up on the injury report this week with a back injury, but he wasn’t given an injury designation and is expected to play. Ahmed, who has been in Green Bay since Aug. 14, would provide insurance in case the injury flares up in-game on Sunday. It’s also possible Ahmed will handle kickoffs to lessen the kicking workload for Crosby.

The Packers did not elevate a receiver from the practice squad or sign Juwann Winfree, possibly suggesting that Amari Rodgers will be available to play. He is currently questionable after being added to the injury report with a new lower-leg injury on Friday. Romeo Doubs has already been ruled out, leaving the Packers with Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Christian Watson and Samori Toure as the team’s four healthy receivers.

All teams are allowed to elevate up to two players from the practice squad each week. An individual player can only be elevated from the practice squad three times per season, so Hamilton has only one more elevation and Ahmed has two more elevations available this season. On Monday, both will revert back to the practice squad.

Packers elevate OLB La’Darius Hamilton from practice squad to gameday roster for Week 7

The Packers elevated outside linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 7 against the Commanders.

The Green Bay Packers elevated outside linebacker La’Darius Hamilton from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 7. The move was announced Saturday, making Hamilton available for Matt LaFleur and the Packers for Sunday’s showdown with the Washington Commanders.

The Packers will now have five outside linebackers available for Sunday: Hamilton, Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Jonathan Garvin and rookie Kingsley Enagbare. While Gary is dealing with a toe injury, Hamilton’s elevation could be based primarily on contributions to the special teams.

Hamilton (6-2, 260) played in five games for the Packers last season. He was on the field for 64 snaps on defense (three pressures, two stops) and six more on special teams.

This is Hamilton’s first elevation of the 2022 season.

The Packers did not elevate a receiver from the practice squad after activating Sammy Watkins from injured reserve. Juwann Winfree has been elevated three times and is out of available elevations, but Travis Fulgham was an option if the Packers felt they needed extra depth at receiver.

With Tipa Galeai on injured reserve, defensive coordinator Joe Barry and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia clearly wanted more help at edge rusher.

All teams are allowed to elevate up to two players from the practice squad each week. An individual player can only be elevated from the practice squad three times per season, so Hamilton now has only two more elevations available this season. On Monday, he will revert back to the practice squad.

Packers signing OLB Ladarius Hamilton off Buccaneers practice squad

The Packers are adding OLB Ladarius Hamilton from the Bucs practice squad to provide depth after making the decision to send Za’Darius Smith (back) to injured reserve.

In response to sending top edge rusher Za’Darius Smith to injured reserve, the Green Bay Packers will add help at outside linebacker from an outside source.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers are signing Ladarius Hamilton off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad. He will join the team’s 53-man roster.

Hamilton went undrafted out of North Texas in 2020. He spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys before being claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers in May.

At North Texas, Hamilton delivered 16 sacks and 28.5 tackles for losses over 43 games.

Asked about Hamilton, Bucs Wire editor Luke Easterling said he was “buried” behind a deep pass-rushing group in Tampa Bay but “flashed” during the preseason.” Hamilton delivered four stops against the run and two pressures, including a sack, while playing 64 snaps over three preseason games with the Bucs.

Hamilton will join Jonathan Garvin and Chauncey Rivers as the top backups behind starters Preston Smith and Rashan Gary.

At the 2020 combine, Hamilton ran the 40-yard dash in 4.89 seconds at 262 pounds. His athletic profile can be viewed below:

Hamilton has never played a snap in an NFL regular season game.

Cowboys trimmed 4 players from the roster this week

The Cowboys made six total cuts this week, including four at one time. Find out who all the Cowboys are releasing.

The Cowboys have begun the grueling selection process that eventually ends with just 53 men left on the roster. To get to 53, Dallas must first get to just 90 names, and the club officially hit that mark after releasing six total players on Friday.

C Adam Redmond, DT Walter Palmore, DE Ladarius Hamilton, and CB Kemon Hall were all officially released by the Cowboys.

DT Antwuan Woods and CB Saivion Smith were the first players let go by Dallas, and that news was quickly followed by the announcement of the release of the four names above.

Three of Dallas’ six cuts this week have already been added by other teams, as Smith, Hall, and Hamilton were claimed off waivers by the Seahawks, Chargers and the Buccaneers, respectively. There is still a possibility that the unclaimed Redmond, Woods, or Palmore rejoin the Cowboys at some point this offseason.

Other than Woods, none of the releases have come as major surprises to Cowboys fans, as the club needed to make room for the 24 total players added last week through the draft and undrafted free agency.

Redmond was the most tenured Cowboys cut, as he had spent the majority of time since 2018 on Dallas’ practice squad.

For Hall, just like Smith, the writing was on the wall after Dallas’ new defensive regime added two cornerbacks on Day 2 of the NFL draft with Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright.

Like the corners above, there was just not much room for Hamilton after the Cowboys added Chauncey Golston and Osa Odighizuwa in the third round of the draft.

Last year, the NFL roster size for training camp was set at 80, though it remains to be seen if this years training camp will be treated the same way. Dallas has a number of tough decisions in front of them as they slowly form their 53-man roster.

Can North Texas’ LaDarius Hamilton be Cowboys next UDFA find?

2020 UDFA LaDarius Hamilton was a star at UNT. Can he make the leap and become a productive edge rusher for the Cowboys?

For 2020 UDFA LaDarius Hamilton, joining the Dallas Cowboys was a dream come true. A proud product of Corrigan, Texas, Hamilton is accustomed to grinding out opportunities, and represents yet another potentially intriguing option for a loaded Dallas pass rush.

Coming in at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, the North Texas alum seemingly has the requisite size and length to play DE in new DC Mike Nolan’s scheme. His performance in school seems to indicate he has a chance to be another in a long line of Dallas UDFA success stories.

Similar to 2020 fifth round DE Bradlee Anae, what Hamilton lacks in athleticism he makes for in sheer production and and technique that shines through on the field. He finished sixth in school history in both sacks (17) and tackles for loss (28.5) over his four years at North Texas.

Hamilton’s 2019 senior season was especially productive, in which he recorded 39 total tackles (10.5 for loss, 8.5 sacks), and one forced fumble. Nicknamed Hambone, he was a three-star recruit coming out of high school who emerged as a truly impressive edge rushing prospect. Said Hamilton to his local KTRE news station after he became a Cowboy:

“I had to work hard at Corrigan. Going into North Texas I wasn’t the best player heading into there. I had to put in work to be the player I am today. It has to be the same thing when I step on the Cowboys practice field. I am ready to prove I belong.”

He now has the chance to add more polish to his game working under defensive line coach Jim Tomsula, for the team he grew up rooting for. Hamilton seemed especially receptive at the prospect of playing in Dallas while speaking at the combine. He faces a long journey to make the roster, considering how the Cowboys have loaded up on DEs in search of an answer opposite DeMarucs Lawrence.

Hamilton will have to wait for and earn his opportunity, but Dallas does have both an immediate and long-term need for another edge rusher. He currently stands to be competing for a roster spot amongst former draft picks like Joe Jackson and Jalen Jelks, but it’s possible Hamilton one day becomes a quality contributor.

At UNT, he was known for his character, a three-year member of the team’s leadership council. Hamilton’s play on and off the field earned the admiration of his coaches and teammates, and eventually earned him one of the most unique and special honors in college football history.

For a single game in 2018, Hamilton wore No. 75 for the Mean Green. It the first time anyone since Joe Greene himself wore that number on the football field for UNT, truly signaling how much Hamilton meant to his school.

If Hamilton can channel his own version of Mean Joe for the Cowboys, he should have no trouble fulfilling a role for his favorite team.

This is part of our Countdown to the Regular Season player profile countdown. With 75 days remaining until the NFL’s first game, up next is rookie defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.
