Bucs reach injury settlement with CB Rashard Robinson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an injury settlement with cornerback Rashard Robinson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an injury settlement with cornerback Rashard Robinson, per The Athletic’s Greg Auman.

Robinson was placed on injured reserve by the Bucs earlier this week, but this settlement would allow Robinson to sign with another team once he’s back to full strength.

If Robinson wants to return to Tampa Bay, he’ll have to wait until at least Week 7 of the regular season, due to NFL rules.

The Bucs open up their 2022 regular-season slate on Sunday, September 11th, with a road trip to face the Dallas Cowboys in front of a national audience.

Dallas Cowboys release former LSU Tiger Rashard Robinson

Former LSU Tigers defensive back Rashard Robinson was released by the Dallas Cowboys per report from CBS Sports analyst Patrik Walker.

It appears as though former LSU Tigers cornerback Rashard Robinson will have to find yet another team to play in the NFL for 2021.

According to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports, the Dallas Cowboys released Rashard Robinson on Saturday. Rashard was a fourth-round draft selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2016 NFL draft. He spent 2016 and part of 2017 with the team before being traded to the New York Jets.

After being suspended for 10 games of the 2019 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, he was released by the Jets on May 10, 2019. This coming off a four-game suspension in 2018. After being re-instated in March of 2020, he signed with the Cowboys on Sept. 15, 2020.

The NFL announced another suspension for the former Tiger on April 20, 2021, for two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Robinson is no stranger to disciplinary action as he was suspended multiple times as a member of the Tigers football program.

Robinson became expendable due to the amount of talent on the Cowboys roster after his latest suspension. In the 2020 NFL draft, they added former Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs and this past draft added Kentucky’s Kelvin Joseph.

It remains to be seen if Robinson will earn another shot in the NFL.

Cowboys CB Rashard Robinson suspended for PED violation

The journeyman CB is under contract for 2021 but is now slated to miss time if he makes the team.

The Dallas Cowboys had a slew of players who lined up at the cornerback position in 2020. 10 different players took snaps at the position as a result of injury, poor play and COVID-19 related results. If a fan got lost along the way of which player had which number it was understandable. To make matters worse, a fourth-round rookie who the team refused to let see the field at the position he was drafted for shared a last name and first initial with a practice squad player who was elevated, confusing the majority of Cowboys Nation.

It was Rashard Robinson who ended up getting 186 defensive snaps last year and it’s Rashard Robinson who ended up on the wrong side of the NFL’s transaction ledger on Tuesday when it was announced he’s been suspended for the first two games of the 2021 season due to a PED violation.

Robinson was a fourth-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 and after two years in that organization spent two more with the New York Jets. He wasn’t rostered in 2019 but was with Dallas in 2020 when the attrition began. He was activated in November as part of the change in league policy that allowed the team to use practice squad players on the game-day roster without changing their contract status. Things were so bad, he ended up starting the following week, a 41-17 blitzing by the Washington Football team and then was added to the roster fully in Week 13. He started three games before returning to be inactive for the final stretch of the season.

He finished with 20 official tackles and Pro Football Focus says he was responsible for allowing two passing touchdowns.

His base salary for 2021 is $990,000, none of it guaranteed if the team chooses to walk away from the player for whatever reason. If he does make the roster, he will sit Weeks 1 and 2, and forgo 1/9th of this salary which will not count on the team’s cap. Robinson is eligible for all other team related activities through the offseason.

Robinson would be in a veteran competition with special team star CJ Goodwin, Reggie Robinson, Muarice Canady (who opted out of 2020), Saivion Smith and Deante Burton for snaps behind Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis.

Dallas already had a need for cornerback and they are expected to try and remedy that with one of their early picks in next week’s amateur draft.

Robinson, Saivion Smith leave game as Cowboys secondary continues to unravel

The Dallas Cowboys don’t have the stiffest of competition challenging their defense in Week 14, and they’ve been able to hold steady against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team has forced three fumbles and recovered all three, leading to 17 points. The Bengals, who have struggled on offense all season have been able to move the ball. Dallas’ quest to hold on to their 13-point lead may have to be pulled off without their starting cornerbacks.

No not that starting cornerback, Trevon Diggs has been out for a few weeks. No, not Anthony Brown; he has a rib injury. No, not Chidobe Awuzie, he tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Rashard Robinson (leg), signed to the 53-man roster earlier this month, was knocked out of the game a few plays after Saivion Smith (hand) was knocked out.

The Cowboys lined up in nickel with Deante Burton and Chris Westry joining Jourdan Lewis on the field for a third down early in the fourth quarter. Burton made the tackle on a scrambling Brandon Allen, but on the fourth down Allen found Tee Higgins against Burton’s coverage for an 18-yard gain and a first down.

It was later reported Smith was in the locker room being evaluated, but both he and Robinson returned to the game after Westry had to be escorted off the field with his own undisclosed injury.

Cowboys secondary decimated; 4 of 5 intended starters out vs Bengals

The Cowboys are set to be without four of the top six defensive backs as they travel to Cincinnati.

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been the worst unit in the NFL this season, and they might now be more more depleted than they have been all season.

Dallas announced that safety Donovan Wilson (groin) and cornerback Anthony Brown (ribs) did not travel with the team to Cincinnati this week, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken. Wilson and Brown are not the only defensive backs that the Cowboys will be missing as the club placed CB Chidobe Awuzie on the COVID list earlier this week. Rookie CB Trevon Diggs remains on IR with a broken foot.

Diggs, Awuzie, and Brown are three of the Cowboys top four remaining cornerbacks, with Xavier Woods the lone healthy member of the original starting secondary. Veteran Jourdan Lewis will man one of the corner spots.

Rashard Robinson and Savion Smith are now expected to start at the cornerback position, alongside Lewis. Robinson joined the Cowboys before Week 11, and has already played significant snaps since joining the squad. Smith has appeared in five Cowboys games since Week 3, but has only played a total of 14 defensive snaps.

Wilson had been a bright spot for the Dallas defense, taking over the starting safety role in Week 5 and continuing to improve until he played his best game to-date in the Cowboys Week 11 win in Minnesota, where he forced two turnovers.

Safety Darian Thompson is expected to make his second straight start in place of Wilson.

WATCH: Jaylon Smith interception does nothing for Cowboys chances

Dallas Cowboys survive a bizarre stretch with two separate injuries and come away with an interception.

The Dallas Cowboys have cut the Washington Football Team’s lead to four after an incredibly weird stretch of football that included two injuries, a secondary full of backups seemingly confused pre-snap, before an interception set the team up with a short field.

But first a breath. Cornerback Rashard Robinson asked out of the game with cramps on one play. The very next play, Chidobe Awuzie was removed by the referees with concussion concerns on a play that seemed entirely harmless by football standards. That left the defense scrambling before Washington quarterback Alex Smith could snap the ball, but then this happened:

Unfortunately two poorly blocked run plays put the Dallas offense in a tough spot before CeeDee Lamb dropped what would have been the game tying touchdown. It remains to be seen whether or not Robinson or Awuzie will return to action.

Cowboys sign Adam Redmond, elevate two CBs ahead Thanksgiving

The Dallas Cowboys a number of minor roster moves, including signing C Adam Redmond, and promoting CB’s Deante Burton and Rashard Robinson.

The Dallas Cowboys made a few roster maneuvers ahead of Thursday’s crucial Thanksgiving showdown with the Washington Football Team. The club had to address their continued issues with depth along the offensive line and in the secondary. Using the league’s roster rules to their fullest, they have a bit more solid footing going into the game on a short week.

After being elevated from the practice squad the previous two games, the Cowboys signed Center Adam Redmond to the 53-man roster. With Tyler Biadasz hitting IR last week, Redmond will continue to backup Joe Looney.

Every week each team can promote two practice squad players the day before that club’s game starts, and Dallas used both of these two extra roster spots this week to add depth to the defensive backfield, as CB Anthony Brown is not expected to suit up at this point, even though Brown is listed as questionable.

Cornerbacks Deante Burton and Rashard Robinson were both elevated to the active roster on Wednesday.

Burton saw 13 special teams snaps in his lone call up this season during Dallas’ Week 3 loss to Seattle. Robinson, a fourth-round pick by the 49ers in 2016, played his first snaps of the year in the Cowboys recent win over Minnesota.

Linebacker Luke Gifford was officially placed on the Reserve/Suspended list on Tuesday after violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. The loss of Gifford cleared the roster space that was used to sign Redmond.[listicle id=656934][lawrence-newsletter]

Winners & Losers: Donovan Wilson separates balls from foes, himself from rest of Cowboys secondary

Winners and losers from the first win for the Dallas Cowboys in over 40 days.

Before Sunday, the last time the Dallas Cowboys had won a game was 42 days ago. The four-game schneid was the team’s longest since 2015 when they suffered not one, but two losing streaks that were actually worse. Still, it ranks among the darker times this franchise has ever seen, so despite people pining for a continued tank, it’s a breath of fresh air to not be abject failures for one day.

As always, there are winners and losers from Sunday’s game. Though today’s recap will be more rosy than most in recent memory, there’s plenty of room for improvement despite the Cowboys looking like a functional football team the last two times they stepped onto the field.

Cowboys activate OT Brandon Knight, add Tyler Biadasz to IR

The Cowboys activated Brandon Knight from the IR, and sent Tyler Biadasz to the IR, and revealed the two weekly practice squad call ups.

On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys made a number of roster transactions. It’s become custom this season, as expanded practice squads and relaxed rules have allowed every NFL team to make roster changes at the last minute each week.

For Week 11, more of the same. Tackle Brandon Knight was activated from injured reserve, center Tyler Biadasz was placed on the injured reserve, and the team announced their two practice squad promotions ahead of Sunday’s matchup in Minnesota.

Knight started at tackle from Week 2 through Week 6 for Dallas. In his lone non-start in that timespan, against Cleveland, Knight entered the game at halftime for right tackle Terrance Steele and was an immediate improvement. Knight injured his knee and required surgery following the Cowboys’ Week 6 loss to Arizona.

Overall Knight has done an adequate job filling in on both the right and left sides, and while he might not be named a starter in his first week back, the majority of Cowboys pundits believe Knight’s efforts earlier this year earned him the right to close out the year as one of the two starting tackles.

Biadasz was thrust into a starting role at center as a rookie, and he proved why many people thought Dallas made an excellent pick when they selected the him in the fourth round in April. After starting Week 4 through Week 8, Biadasz injured his hamstring in the pre-game warm up just before the Cowboys took on the Steelers.

Joe Looney recently returned from the IR, and will continue to anchor the offensive line at the center position for Dallas.

The former Badger would be eligible to return in early December following the Cowboys Week 13 date with the Ravens.

This season the NFL has given each team the ability to promote two practice squad members just before that teams game each week. This week the Cowboys promoted cornerback Rashard Robinson, and center Adam Redmond to improve the interior line depth.

Roster Churn: Cowboys move Diggs to IR, shuffle PS, prep for Knight

Trevon Diggs heads to IR. Cowboys add to practice squad with Breeland Speaks and Robinson. Brandon Knight begins 21-day practice window.

The Dallas Cowboys have been busy making a lot of roster moves just days ahead of their matchup with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Unfortunately, one of those moves isn’t a positive one as promising rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a broken foot vs the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.

Diggs began to hit his stride in the last five games. He registered 22 tackles, eight passes defended, and two interceptions over that span (both vs the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8). There’s no telling if Diggs will come back later in the season, but for now, the talented rookie is on the shelf.

The Cowboys also added a few pieces to the practice squad roster with defensive end Breeland Speaks and cornerback Rashard Robinson.

Speaks was a second-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. He would play in all 16 games as a rookie with four starts. He produced 24 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. After multiple stints on injured reserve, and a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s old substance-abuse policy, Speaks didn’t see the field in 2019 and was released on September 5 during final roster cuts.

Speaks would be signed to the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad on October 2 only to be released on November 3.

Robinson was signed to the Cowboys practice squad on September 15 but was placed on the practice squad/injured list on October 24 with an undisclosed injury.

The Cowboys offensive line got some much-needed good news as well on Wednesday with the potenital return of tackle Brandon Knight. He suffered a knee injury in October against the Arizona Cardinals and underwent surgery just days later that would keep him out multiple weeks. Knight has played in six games with four starts this season in place of Tyron Smith. He’s struggled for the most part but did have one solid game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Knight now begins his 21-day practice window, giving the Cowboys three weeks to evaluate him before adding him back to the active roster.
