CB Michael Jackson earned a spot on Seahawks roster by being himself

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Michael Jackson discusses his NFL journey to making the team’s 53-man roster through hard work and mental reps.

Cornerback Michael Jackson was one of the lucky players on Tuesday to remain with the team after the Seattle Seahawks trimmed their roster to the mandated 53-man limit.

Jackson was originally selected by the Cowboys in the 2019 NFL draft but signed with the Lions later that year. Ahead of the 2020 season, he was traded to the Patriots and spent most of the year on the practice squad. He was signed by Seattle last September as a practice-squad member and earned himself a future contract this January.

“It’s a journey,” Jackson told reporters during his press conference on Wednesday. “It is one of those things where I always believed there was light at the end of the tunnel. It’s just the beginning, I can’t stop now.”

Jackson has impressed throughout camp and was asked what the key has been to his success.

“I was just being me, I didn’t try to be anyone else,” Jackson said. “I worked hard and prepared my body and mind. All of those mental reps that I got last year for the whole season, all of that went into play.”

Jackson’s next big chance to prove himself will come Monday, Sept. 12 when the Seahawks host the Broncos to open their season.

Following trimming their active roster to the 53-man limit, the Seattle Seahawks signed 12 players to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Following the Seattle Seahawks trimming their active roster to the 53-man limit, the team announced the signing of 12 players to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Seahawks sign DT Robert Nkemdiche off practice squad, waive QB Jake Luton

The Seahawks announced a few roster moves ahead of Week 4, signing DT Robert Nkemdiche off the practice squad and waiving QB Jake Luton.

The Seattle Seahawks made a number of personnel moves on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

First, Seattle announced the signing of defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche from the practice to squad to the active roster. Nkemdiche had been a key contributor over the last two outings for the Seahawks.

To make room for Nkemdiche on the 53-man squad, Seattle waived quarterback Jake Luton.

The Seahawks also pulled off a couple of practice squad moves as well, signing tight end Jace Sternberger and releasing wide receiver Connor Wedington, wide receiver De’Quan Hampton and tight end Michael Jacobson.

The Seahawks have an off day Tuesday but return to the practice field Wednesday morning.

Seahawks elevate running back Alex Collins from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have elevated running back Alex Collins from the practice squad ahead of the wild-card matchup against the Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a roster move on Friday afternoon ahead of the team’s scheduled wild-card matchup against the Los Angeles Rams set for this weekend at Lumen Field.

Seattle has elevated running back Alex Collins from the practice squad to the active roster. This move comes on the heels of the news that running back Rashaad Penny has been recently added to the injury report as questionable with a knee injury.

Collins, who scored a touchdown in Week 17 in the Seahawks’ win over the 49ers, will add depth at the position should Penny be unable to go on Saturday.

Seahawks sign tight end Luke Willson off practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have signed tight end Luke Willson off the practice squad to the active roster ahead of wild-card weekend.

The Seattle Seahawks have once again made fan-favorite tight end, Luke Willson, a member of the team’s active roster. Seattle signed Willson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Wednesday afternoon.

Willson spent the first five games of the year in Seattle before he was released and signed with Baltimore. He was signed back to the Seahawks as a member of the practice squad last month.

To make room for Willson on the active roster, the Seahawks have placed cornerback Jayson Stanley on injured reserve. Stanley suffered a hamstring injury in Week 16 during Seattle’s win over the Rams.

Seahawks elevate receiver Penny Hart to active roster for Week 16

The Seattle Seahawks brought back Penny Hart and elevated him to the active roster in preparation for Week 16’s game against the Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks made a couple of roster moves on Saturday, including activating tight end Greg Olsen and defensive tackle Bryan Mone from injured reserve to the 53-man squad.

Also, in the wake of Josh Gordon being returned to the Exempt/Commissioner Permission list, the Seahawks brought wide receiver Penny Hart back to their practice squad and elevated him to the active roster in preparation for Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Never has a game been more crucial for Seattle in 2020, and Hart will hopefully make substantial contributions in Gordon’s stead. He has only registered one catch for three yards and one carry for 19 yards in 11 games, but he could see more playing time in this particular contest.

If the Seahawks win, they will claim victory over the NFC West and make Week 17 a possible rest game.

Seahawks designate TE Greg Olsen to return to practice from IR

The Seattle Seahawks have officially designated TE Greg Olsen to return to practice from injured reserve after he tore his plantar fascia.

The Seattle Seahawks veteran tight end Greg Olsen has remained true to his word, to “finish on his feet.”

Olsen was placed on injured reserve last month after he tore his plantar fascia. The prognosis was not positive, the tight end was expected to be out for up to two months. Fast forward less than a month later, and all that has changed.

On Monday, coach Pete Carroll said Olsen could resume practice this week or next. By Wednesday, Olsen was designated to return.

“I don’t even know how he got well so fast, I don’t have a clue how that happened, but he did,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s dying to play right now, he wants to get out there. He’s a perfect competitor to have on your club.”

The plan is to practice Olsen throughout the week and see how he does.

“He’s the real deal,” Carroll said. “He’s such a great football player. He loves this game so much he loves competing so much.”

Until Olsen is officially activated, he won’t count against the 53-man roster.

Detroit Lions elevate 3 practice squad players for their Week 14 game against the Packers

The Detroit Lions have elevated three members of their practice squad for their Week 14 matchup with the Green Bay Packers: Offensive tackle Dan Skipper, defensive end Kareem Martin, and safety/gunner Bobby Price.

The Detroit Lions have elevated three members of their practice squad for their Week 14 matchup with the Green Bay Packers: Offensive tackle Dan Skipper, defensive end Kareem Martin, and safety/gunner Bobby Price.

Typically, the Lions would only be able to elevate two players under the standard elevation addendum, but with Everson Griffen being placed on the COVID-19 list, the Lions are able to elevate a third player as a replacement.

With Tyrell Crosby being ruled out and Hal Vaitai on injured reserve, the Lions have turned to Matt Nelson at right tackle. With Joe Dahl as the only remaining player with tackle experience on the active roster, Skipper is being elevated as insurance against any further injuries at the position.

With a plethora of injuries amongst the Lions EDGE rushers, Martin is being called up for depth. While Romeo Okwara is healthy, the Lions are down Trey Flowers (IR), Griffen (COVID-19), and Julian Okwara (IR).

When the Lions deploy four down defensive lineman, they will most likely hope to turn to Da’Shawn Hand and/or Austin Bryant opposite Okwara, with Martin potentially being the fourth option. But both Hand and Bryant are listed as questionable this week and neither has played in three games, meaning Martin could find himself on the field fairly quickly.

Because of this uncertainty, the Lions may rely on their linebackers to fill an EDGE role and that would mean leaning on Jahlani Tavai, Christian Jones, and Reggie Ragland at the JACK linebacker role more.

Price was elevated last week and played on 19 special teams snaps, including as a starting gunner. With C.J. Moore questionable after injuring his ankle last week, Price should help soften Moore’s workload.

Lions elevate Dee Virgin and Albert Huggins to active roster for Week 12

The Detroit Lions announced that they have elevated cornerback/gunner Dee Virgin and defensive tackle Albert Huggins to the active roster for Week 12.

The Detroit Lions announced that they have elevated cornerback/gunner Dee Virgin and defensive tackle Albert Huggins to the active roster for their Week 12 game against the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day.

Last night, the Lions protected three players on the practice squad. Today, all three are in line to play for the Lions in Week 12. In addition to Virgin and Huggins elevations, Detroit also signed Mohamad Sanu to the active roster after Hal Vaitai was placed on injured reserve.

With Tony McRae on long-term injured reserve and Mike Ford likely to miss this week with a concussion, the Lions are missing two of their best special teams gunners. Jamal Agnew, Tracy Walker, Jayron Kearse, and Justin Coleman have all seen time at gunner this season, but Virgin is the most talented gunner of the group.

This is Virgin’s second elevation to the active roster — he was also elevated in Week 2 — which is the maximum allowed during a season. If the Lions want to have Virgin available for any games moving forward, they will have to sign him to the active roster — similarly to what they did with tight end Isaac Nauta earlier in the season.

Defensive lineman Frank Herron has also exhausted his elevations, but with Da’Shawn Hand is still dealing with an injury, the team is leaning on Huggins to round out the defensive tackle group. This is Huggins’ first elevation of the season.

Lions place OL Hal Vaitai on I.R., add WR Mohamad Sanu to 53-man roster

The Detroit Lions announced that they have placed offensive lineman Hal Vaitai on injured reserve and added wide receiver Mohamad Sanu to 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

The Detroit Lions announced that they have placed offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai on injured reserve and added wide receiver Mohamad Sanu to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

Vaitai has been dealing with a foot injury for the better part of the month and was pulled from last week’s game just before halftime. The Lions did not list him as being injured during the game, but coach Matt Patricia did acknowledge that Vaitai was “pushing through some things that have restricted him a little bit.”

Foot injuries can be tricky for NFL players and even the simplest of injuries can negatively impact a player’s performance. Unfortunately, the only way to fully heal is to rest the foot until it’s better — which is the direction the Lions have taken here.

Vaitai will be eligible to return after Week 14, as long as he is healed and capable of returning to the active roster. In the interim, Oday Aboushi and Joe Dahl will battle it out for the starting job at right guard.

Sanu signed with the Lions three weeks ago and they have thought enough of him to protect him each of those weeks. Last week, Sanu was elevated to the roster and played 15 snaps with zero stats earned.

The Lions now have seven wide receivers on the active roster, but with the rate that this position group has been injured this season, this isn’t an overly surprising move — especially with Kenny Golladay still unable to play.
