Rutgers football: Stanley Dennis II enters the transfer portal

Stanley Dennis II is entering the transfer portal.

Defensive lineman Stanley Dennis II entered the transfer portal over the weekend from Rutgers.

The 5-foot-11, 285-pound defensive tackle will graduate from Rutgers in the spring. He will have two years of eligibility left.

He played his high school football at parochial powerhouse program St. Peter’s Prep.

Dennis turned some heads from the media during the annual spring game, where he had a strong performance. In the spring game, Dennis had six total tackles, one sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.

He finished the game tied with linebacker [autotag]Abram Wright[/autotag] for the most tackles on the White team.

Dennis also got it done in the classroom as, on multiple occasions, he was named Academic All-Big Ten.

Also over the weekend a pair of defensive linemen, Cam’Ron Stewart and Q’yaeir Price, entered the transfer portal.

Tampa running back Justin Thurman is offered by Rutgers football

Rutgers football offered Tampa running back Justin Thurman.

One of the top running backs in Florida was offered this week by Rutgers football.

Class of 2025 recruit Justin Thurman from Jesuit (Tampa, FL) pulled in an offer from Rutgers on Tuesday. A 6-foot, 170-pound running back, the Scarlet Knights join a recruitment that also includes Kansas and Tennesee.

He is an elusive athlete with good speed (Thurman also runs track). He also runs with power and good balance.

Jesuit went 9-5 last season.

Thurman tweeted about the offer from Rutgers football on Tuesday night. He was offered by Tennessee earlier in the day.

Since the return of head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] three years ago, Rutgers has been recruiting Tampa heavily. As a former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Schiano’s name certainly resonates around the area.

The 2023 recruiting class, which featured 18 total commits, had a heavy Florida flavor. Six of the players who are part of this class are from Florida.

[lawrence-related id=25443]

Included in this group of six were several standouts including running back [autotag]Jashon Benjamin[/autotag], defensive back [autotag]Bo Mascoe[/autotag] and linebacker [autotag]Abram Wright[/autotag].

Rutgers is in the midst of their spring practice, which began on Tuesday.

Rutgers football commit Abram Wright gets an NC State offer

Rutgers football verbal Abram Wright pulls in an ACC offer this week.

Perhaps the best commit in Rutgers football’s class of 2023, Florida linebacker Abram Wright, got an offer this week from North Carolina State.

Wright, who committed to Rutgers in June, is an under-the-radar linebacker out of Fleming Island (Fleming Island, FL). According to 247Sports, he is the No. 65 linebacker in the nation and is a consensus three-star.

North Carolina State joins Duke and Rutgers as the Power Five offers for Wright. He is off to a strong start to the season, including an interception in his second game of the season.

A key piece to the current Rutgers recruiting class, Wright’s commitment was seen as important for a program that needs talent and depth at linebacker. He is a strong and polished 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds.

Earlier this summer, Wright ran a 4.58 time in the 40 at the Wake Forest camp, an impressive time for a linebacker.

[lawrence-related id=18589]

In 2021 for Fleming Island, Wright had 76 total tackles and seven sacks in 11 games. It is impressive output from a linebacker whose film shows a player that can go sideline-to-sideline and make plays. He is comfortable getting after the quarterback but also dropping back into coverage.

Watch: Rutgers football commit Abram Wright grabs an interception this weekend

Rutgers football commit Abram Wright gets a nice interception over the weekend.

Abram Wright is showcasing why he was a priority recruit for Rutgers football, showing his athleticism and ability to change the game. The Scarlet Knights commit had a big player over the weekend.

A three-star linebacker at Fleming Island High School (Orange Park, FL), Wright is a bit under-the-radar as a recruit. The class of 2023 recruit has helped lead Fleming Island to 2-0  start to the season following big wins over Clay (49-7) and Rickards (51-20).

Ranked by 247Sports as the the No. 101 player in Florida and the No. 65 linebacker in the nation, Wright only had Power Five offers from Rutgers and Duke. He committed to the Scarlet Knights in mid-June, shortly after taking his official visit to Rutgers.

[lawrence-related id=18501]

Over the weekend, he did a nice job in covrerage making this interception:

Wright is perhaps the most intriguing member of the 2023 recruiting class for Rutgers. At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, he has good size already to slot in as a Big Ten linebacker.

[lawrence-related id=18509]

And there is the fact that he has tremendous speed, as shown in running a 4.58 time in the 40 at the Wake Forest camp earlier this summer.

Breaking: Florida linebacker Abram Wright commits to Rutgers football

Rutgers football landed a very intriguing linebacker in Abram Wright.

Rutgers landed a third commitment on Sunday and a second from Florida with the verbal of linebacker Abram Wright.

A three-star linebacker from Fleming Island (Fleming Island, FL), Wright held Power Five offers from Rutgers and Duke. He committed to Rutgers football on Sunday following his official visit to the Big Ten program.

Wright is the definition of an under-the-radar recruit, playing for a program that doesn’t receive as much interest from Power Five programs as many of the other big-time schools in the talent-rich state. That hasn’t stopped Wright from performing well in pads or in shorts during this camp season.

(Fleming Island has an intriguing 6-foot-4 wide receiver in Darion Domineck for what it is worth, a player who is starting to rack up some nice quality offers including Indiana, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and West Virginia).

[lawrence-related id=16521]

In 2021 for Fleming Island, Wright had 76 total tackles and seven sacks in 11 games. It is impressive output from a linebacker whose film shows a player that can go sideline-to-sideline and make plays. He is comfortable getting after the quarterback but also dropping back into coverage.

This past weekend, he backed up his impressive statistical output. At the Wake Forest camp, Wright ran an impressive 4.58 time in the 40, a number that is borderline elite for developed college linebackers let alone a rising senior in high school.

[lawrence-related id=16487]

Earlier on Sunday, Rutgers football landed verbals from Massachusetts wide receiver Jesse Oforie and Florida offensive lineman Mozell Williams.

Florida linebacker Abram Wright talks Rutgers football official visit, his blazing 40-time last weekend

Rutgers football is set for an official visit this weekend at Rutgers football.

Abram Wright is one of the most under-appreciated recruits in the nation, the Florida linebacker having recently validated his output on the field with an impressive 40-time a week ago.

Wright is a 6-foot-2 and 225-pound linebacker from Fleming Island (Orange Park, FL). Over the past weekend, Wright ran an impressive 4.58 time in the 40 at the Wake Forest camp.

In 2021 for Fleming Island, Wright had 76 total tackles and seven sacks in 11 games. He holds Power Five offers from Duke (which came on June 1) and Rutgers.

This weekend, Wright will be at Rutgers. He talked with RutgersWire about the official visit and what is looking to get from the weekend.

[lawrence-related id=16438]

It will be a big official visit weekend for the program with a number of top recruits present.

“I’m very excited to visit; especially since it’s my first official visit,” Wright told RutgersWire.

“They told me they would take me to the beach and New York City. I’m excited to meet the team and get a feel for what the school is like.”

Wright doesn’t have a timetable for any other official visits or when he might decide to commit to a program.

The combination of his speed along with his production at Fleming Island makes him an intriguing prospect for Rutgers football.

[lawrence-related id=16458]

That time in the 40 at the Wake Forest camp last weekend is likely to lead to more offers in the coming days and weeks. Rutgers is likely to try to make a push for Wright and make sure he leaves campus committed.

“This spring I’ve been running track for my school to get faster. I ran that 4×100, 100 and 200 meters. Track definitely helped me get that time,” Wright said.

“Right after I finished running I walked by the coaches and they all started giving me fist bumps which was really nice.”

Watch: Rutgers football recruit Abram Wright clocks a 4.58 time in the 40 over the weekend

Rutgers football will host Abram Wright for an official visit this weekend.

Abram Wright will be at Rutgers football this weekend for an official visit, just as his recruitment is starting to pick up.

Wright, at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds from Fleming Island (Orange Park, FL) just picked up an offer from Duke on June 1. And this past weekend, Wright ran a blistering 4.58 time in the 40 at the Wake Forest camp.

Last season, Wright had 76 total tackles and seven sacks in 11 games. This production certainly backs up his recently timed 40.

Duke and Rutgers remain his only Power Five at the present time. But that clocked 40-time run by the class of 2023 linebacker is certainly going to open some eyes.

And it is certainly an imperfect comparison but at the NFL combine in March, Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd ran a 4.66 time in the 40.

[lawrence-related id=16426]

Lloyd was a first round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, selected No. 27 overall.

Jack Sanborn, an undrafted rookie free agent who was All-Big Ten the past two years, ran a 4.73 time at the combine.

[lawrence-related id=16404]

It is an imperfect comparison as both players have more bulk and muscle mass than Wright, but it certainly gives an indication of what his speed at his current size can bring to a program.

According to 247Sports, he is a three-star recruit and the No. 103 player in Florida.

Abram Wright talks Rutgers football offer, June visit

Florida linebacker Abram Wright discusses his recruitment.

Abram Wright pulled in an offer from Rutgers football a week ago and now the Florida linebacker is eyeing a potential official visit to the Big Ten program next month.

Rutgers was the first Power Five offer for Wright, a class of 2023 prospect who is under-recruited in what is a bumper year for athletes in Florida. He also holds offers from programs like Delaware, Georgia Southern and Miami (OH) among others.

Wright, a linebacker for Fleming Island High School (Orange Park, FL), had 76 total tackles a season ago along with seven sacks, an interception and a hurry. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker moves well in coverage, is a sure tackler and has good footwork.

Fleming Island finished last season 6-5.

On Friday, [autotag]Abram Wright[/autotag] broke down his recruitment with RutgersWire.

He talked about his offer from Rutgers football, his connection with the coaching staff (head coach Greg Schiano and defender coordinator Joe Harasymiak in particular) as well as an upcoming official visit to the program. He also talks about what programs could be next in line for an offer.
