  • TE [autotag]Logan Blake[/autotag]

Several players are still deciding their status as their high school seasons wind down.

JaSiré Peterson’s message to Chase Bisontis: Jersey pride is strong at Rutgers

What did JaSire Peterson say about Chase Bisontis’ recruitment?

JaSiré Peterson has a simple message to Chase Bisontis: make your dreams come true in front of family and friends.

A four-star recruit and the top-ranked player in New Jersey, Bisontis is expected to make his college decision sometime this summer. Rutgers football was one of five official visits for Bisontis, putting the Scarlet Knights in the mix alongside programs such as Michigan State, Texas A&M and LSU.

Peterson, a defensive line commit, has been a vocal leader of this recruiting class. In the On3 Consensus, Peterson is the eighth-best player in New Jersey.

[lawrence-related id=17165]

He has a pitch for Bisontis to decide to stay home and commit to the Rutgers football program:

“Me and Chase kind of started our Rutgers journey together, I think our first time on campus was at the same time. I know Chase sees the vision and what could be at Rutgers and he knows this is truly home and a family here for him,” Peterson told RutgersWire.

“This is a place that’s going to love and care for him for years to come…if it’s the coaches, players or even the fans. Accomplishing our dreams and goals in our home state in front of friends and family I think makes the future accomplishments mean just a little bit more and Jersey pride is strong in everybody from here.”

Were Bisontis to commit to Rutgers, he would be a transformational recruit for the program. A Bisontis commitment would mark the second-straight season where Rutgers landed the top player in New Jersey.

Last season, Rutgers got an April-verbal from Jacob Allen, a four-star from Hun who was the top-ranked player in New Jersey.

Bisontis, a stand-out at Don Bosco Prep, is known for being a grinder and one of the hardest working players in the weight room.

Check back with RutgersWire on Monday for an in-depth interview with [autotag]JaSiré Peterson[/autotag]. He talks about his offseason, his excitement for the upcoming Rutgers football season and his thoughts on being a leader in the class of 2023!

Former Big Ten foe joins Rutgers football as an intern

Rutgers football adds an intern with strong Big Ten ties.

Former four-star recruit Steven Gonzalez has joined the Rutgers football staff as an intern. The former Penn State offensive lineman tweeted about the career move this week.

A standout at Union City High School (Union City, N.J.), Gonzalez will be interning with the Scarlet Knights in the strength and conditioning program. A multi-year starter at Penn State, Gonzalez’s college career wrapped up by being named All-Big Ten as a senior.

His move into coaching is intriguing for Rutgers football. In the previous recruiting cycle, the Scarlet Knights landed a Union City offensive lineman in Taj White. In the class of 2023, the highest-ranked recruit among the Rutgers verbals is [autotag]JaSire Peterson[/autotag], who is set for his senior season at Union City.

Peterson has been a voice in helping to build the Rutgers recruiting class to its current rank as top 30 in the nation.

Following his career at Penn State where he was one of the best left guards in the Big Ten, Gonzalez spent time in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and the Buffalo Bills.

Who is visiting Rutgers football for official visits in June?

Rutgers football is expected to be busy in June with a number of high-profile official visits.

The recruiting calendar has changed and been accelerated, now making June arguably the busiest month of the year for recruiting in college football. It will be a very busy month for Rutgers football, as they are set to host a number of top players on campus for official visits.

There is some momentum for Rutgers football, especially after receiving another big in-state commitment this past week.

The 2023 recruiting class is a solid one for Rutgers football and off to a good start in New Jersey. Three of the five verbals for the recruiting class are in-state, and all three are top 15 in New Jersey.

Last week, Hun tight end Logan Blake committed to Rutgers. Blake is the No. 13 player in New Jersey this recruiting cycle and fits a pressing need at the tight end position.

Also part of this class from New Jersey is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]JaSire Peterson[/autotag] and offensive lineman [autotag]John Stone[/autotag], a top 10 player in the state.

Three-star linebacker from Pennsylvania, [autotag]Davoun Fuse,[/autotag] committed earlier in May (and just received an offer from Pittsburgh). [autotag]Deondre Johnson[/autotag], the second-best player in New York, also committed in May.

Check out what players are heading to Rutgers football in June for an official visit!
