4-star linebacker has Florida among top 3 preferred schools

Chalk up another top schools list for a coveted 2024 prep prospect.

Florida football made the latest cut for yet another highly-sought prep prospect on Tuesday when four-star linebacker [autotag]Aaron Chiles[/autotag] out of Olney (Maryland) Our Lady Good Counsel in the 2024 recruiting cycle announced on Instagram his final three preferred schools.

The trio mentioned by the 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound defender consisted of the Gators, along with the Maryland Terrapins and Michigan Wolverines.

The rising high school senior has made a few visits to Florida’s campus prior and has an upcoming official visit in the Swamp in mid-June. However, Michigan also has an OV scheduled with the Old Line State recruit on the following weekend — representing the only two official visits he has set so far.

Chiles is ranked No. 75 overall and No. 6 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 103 and 8 respectively. Michigan currently holds four crystal ball predictions from 247Sports while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine agrees, pegging the Wolverines at a 93.6% chance of landing the coveted recruit.

Michigan football makes final three for elite top LB target

Gotta lock him in! #GoBlue

Michigan football is continuing its ascent in recruiting the 2024 class. At the moment, the Wolverines have the top-rated class in college football.

While that is certainly subject to change depending on how the landscape rakes out, the maize and blue are in it for a number of top targets across the sport.

And that includes one of the top linebackers in the country.

Taking to Twitter, 2024 Olney (Maryland) Good Counsel four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles released his top three schools. Michigan football made the cut, along with fellow Big Ten school Maryland, as well as the rebuilding SEC powerhouse Florida.

Chiles is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches and 220 pounds, and he is rated the No. 75 player in the country, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports composite. Michigan football is the 247Sports crystal ball leader with four predictions indicating he’ll become a Wolverine.

He also has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M and USC among others.

The scouting report from national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn:

Has verified size but does not have verified speed markers. Can easily play at 225 to 230 pounds. During several in-person evaluations burst, instincts and physical style of play stood out. Team leader with high football IQ. Productive, reliable player. Lines up in various spots, including blitzing off edge and as inside linebacker. Great body control and can contort to slip through gaps and dip to get around edge. Diagnosis plays quickly. Runs well and chases plays down from behind. Fills run gaps and is sure tackler. Athleticism is evident in person and on tape. Is strong against run. Willing to take on blocks and can stack and shed. Navigates traffic and locates ball carrier well, especially in box. Tackles through ball carrier and also delivers big hit. Understands not only his assignments but can direct defense. Is impressive with drop depths in coverage and does not bail on assignments. Closing speed flashes when playing down hill. Moves well laterally and shows ability to get to sideline. Has to continue to develop technique and increase coverage ability. Can play early at Top 10 program. Early- to mid-round NFL draft potential.

Michigan already has pledges from four-star Mason Curtis and three-star Zach Ludwig at the linebacker position. However, landing a top-100 linebacker would be a dynamic shift in terms of rankings, as the Wolverines have not brought in a linebacker of that caliber in the Jim Harbaugh era.

Penn State makes Top 10 of the best player in Maryland

Penn State makes top schools cut for top-ranked player in Maryland in 2024

Penn State is known as “Linebacker U” for all the great linebackers that have come through the program.

They’re looking to keep that reputation going by continually getting elite talent on the recruiting trail.

2024 four-star linebacker, [autotag]Aaron Chiles[/autotag], recently cut his list down to 10 schools. On3’s 110th ranked player in the class has received offers from 39 programs across the country.

His top 10 list includes Penn State, Michigan, Maryland, LSU, Florida State, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Chiles is a 6’3″ 220 pound linebacker from Maryland who is listed as the best player in the state.

He recently spoke with Hayes Fawcett of On3 and explained what he liked about Penn State saying, “it’s LBU and it’s close to home, and coach Franklin is cool.”

It’s good to see that the reputation of “Linebacker U” is still alive and well with the younger athletes coming into college football.

However, it seems like the rest of the schools in his top 10 have a lot of work to do.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has listed Michigan with a massive 93.6% chance to sign Chiles.

He said to Fawcett, “I went up there recently and loved everything about it which is why I’m going again before my official.”

Penn State is listed with a less than 1% chance to sign the number one player in Maryland, but the Prediction Machine hasn’t been updated since he cut his list to 10.

It’s looking like it will be an uphill battle for the Nittany Lions to sign Chiles and keep him away from their rivals.

4-star LB Aaron Chiles names top schools

Georgia football makes the top schools list for linebacker Aaron Chiles, who is the top-ranked player in Maryland

Aaron Chiles, a four-star linebacker, has named his top 10 schools including the Georgia Bulldogs. Chiles is one of the best linebacker recruits in the junior class.

Chiles plays high school school football for Our Lady Of Good Counsel in Onley, Maryland. Onley is located north of Washington D.C. and southwest of Baltimore.

Chiles received a scholarship offer from the Georgia Bulldogs football program back in April 2022. Chiles is a member of the class of 2024. He’s considered the No. 88 recruit in his class, the top-ranked player in Maryland, and the seventh-ranked 2024 linebacker.

The Our Lady Of Good Counsel standout considers Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Clemson, Penn State, Florida, Maryland, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Ohio State to be his top schools.

Chiles plans to play in the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game. The four-star linebacker has recent scholarship offers from Texas, Indiana, and Oregon.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker has taken a recent visit to Michigan. Aaron Chiles announced his top 10 schools via Twitter:

Georgia football is always looking for linebackers. The Bulldogs produce as many NFL draft picks at the position as any other school in college football.

Kirby Smart and Georgia previously signed four-star linebacker recruit Jamon Dumas-Johnson from Maryland as a member of the class of 2021. Dumas-Johnson is an example of Georgia’s excellent development. He recorded 70 total tackles and four sacks in his sophomore season in Athens, Georgia.

Blue-chip 2024 linebacker recruit makes first trip to Florida

The Gators made a good impression on this linebacker recruit from the Old Line State recently.

Florida football got an unofficial visit on Monday from [autotag]Aaron Chiles[/autotag], the No. 6 overall linebacker in the 2024 class according to On3, who stopped by Gainesville to meet [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and the rest of the Gators staff.

Chiles was offered by Florida back in May and finally made it down to campus to meet everyone in person. According to On3’s Pat O’Donnell, Chiles was able to talk to Napier and Jay Bateman, UF’ new inside linebackers coach.

The Maryland native has made it clear that his recruitment is wide open and he is taking his time with announcing his decision. With over a full year left, Chiles will make unofficial visits to multiple programs to see what is best for his future. With all that being said, it seems like Gainesville made a good impression on the 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound defender out of Olney (Maryland) Good Council High.

The Gators will have to do some work recruiting such a highly-rated player from a state outside of the south. Along with Florida, Chiles holds offers from Maryland, Clemson, Notre Dame and Penn State, among others. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Nittany Lions are the current leader in the clubhouse with a 33.2% chance of landing Chiles’ signature. Florida is fourth with a 10.9% chance of landing Chiles’ signature.

An elite linebacker from Maryland reported an offer from Clemson on Wednesday.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (Onley, Md.) 2024 four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles announced the offer from the Tigers via social media Wednesday evening.

Chiles (6-3, 220) is ranked as high as the No. 3 outside linebacker and No. 55 overall prospect in the 2024 class by Rivals.

Chiles made his first-ever campus visit on Friday, April 1 and recapped the visit in an recent interview with The Clemson Insider.

“To be honest, it’s the best college I’ve ever been to,” Chiles told TCI. “Compared to (other schools), I think Clemson’s just a different atmosphere and just different. It’s just a family up there. The campus is not that big, but just in general, everybody’s a family.”

Chiles told TCI that an offer from Clemson would be “a dream come true” for him.

“Watching them on TV, Death Valley, the whole thing, that would just be a dream come true,”  he said. “They don’t offer many guys. They like to wait until junior year, which I respect and I think it’s different because colleges nowadays offer sophomores and things like that, so for them to really want to build a relationship and get to know me, I trust them and I believe in what they’re doing.”

One of nation’s top LBs says Clemson is the best college he’s ever been to

Last week, Clemson played host to the No. 1 linebacker in the state of Maryland, who made his first-ever campus visit on Friday, April 1.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (Onley, MD.) 2024 four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles recapped his Clemson unofficial visit in an exclusive interview with The Clemson Insider earlier this week.

“To be honest, it’s the best college I’ve ever been to,” Chiles told TCI. “Compared to (other schools), I think Clemson’s just a different atmosphere and just different. It’s just a family up there. The campus is not that big, but just in general, everybody’s a family.”

Chiles primarily heard about playing time and how he’d likely be able to come in and play right away if he were to come to Clemson. When he first landed in Tiger Town, Chiles said that people were talking about Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and how good of a guy he is, which he really appreciated.

For the majority of his visit, Chiles was accompanied by former Clemson standout linebacker Stephone Anthony, who now serves as a graduate assistant on Swinney’s staff.

“They introduced me to P.A.W. Journey and how they raise young men,” he said, “and that’s big on my end. It’s not all about football, it’s about how you’re raising men and I really liked that part. (Anthony) talked about how there’s about 27 former players on the staff and how he got drafted in the first round by the Saints. Soaking in what he was telling me, I really bought into what he said.”

Chiles, of course, had a chance to meet with Wesley Goodwin for the first time and needless to say, he was impressed. He was surprised when Goodwin told him that he was a first-time coordinator.

“Coach Wes Goodwin, he talked about how he had experience in the NFL with the Cardinals,” Chiles said, “and I got to sit in actually a linebacker meeting with them and see what they do in their scheme and how they talk. I feel like he’s a good coach and I trust him. This is his first year as the DC. The things he’s doing are different for the program, but I trust him and I think the things are good.

According to Chiles, Clemson’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach told him where he’d fit in the team’s defense over the next two years and where he’d likely put the standout Maryland linebacker at.

“He said I’d probably be one of the middle linebackers or inside linebackers, but he might move me around and let me play a little bit of edge,” Chiles said.

Chiles said that’s how he sees himself at the next level. He feels like if he puts on a little bit more weight, he can play inside or as an edge/pass-rusher.

Even without an offer, Chiles indicated that Clemson is currently a top school in his recruitment, especially after last week’s visit.

“They said they offer guys off relationships, so me and Coach Wes are building a relationship. I’ll call him about once every week,” Chiles said. “They told me June 1, they’re definitely coming my way.”

What would it mean for Chiles to earn an offer from Clemson?

“From Clemson, it’d be a dream come true,” he said. “Watching them on TV, Death Valley, the whole thing, that would just be a dream come true. They don’t offer many guys. They like to wait until junior year, which I respect and I think it’s different because colleges nowadays offer sophomores and things like that, so for them to really want to build a relationship and get to know me, I trust them and I believe in what they’re doing.”

Clemson sent Chiles the camp schedule and he will definitely aim to participate in the Dabo Swinney Camp come June. Even if he’s unable to camp at Clemson, Chiles certainly plans on making it back to Tiger Town at some point this summer.

High-profile Maryland linebacker will be at Clemson later this week

The No. 1 linebacker in the state of Maryland will be on Clemson’s campus later this week.

The Clemson Insider spoke with Our Lady of Good Counsel (Onley, MD.) 2024 four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles, who previewed his upcoming visit to Clemson on Friday, April 1 and what he’s been hearing from the Tigers lately.

“Lately, I’ve been talking to the DB coach, Coach Mike (Reed) and he’s been asking me to come through and come down there,” Chiles said. “On April 1, I’m planning on coming down and taking a visit.”

Chiles estimates that he first got in contact with Reed about two weeks ago and they’ve spoken twice a week since then.

“So far he’s told me that I’m a great player and that they’d love to have me down there,” Chiles said regarding what he heard from Reed. “They don’t ask a lot of guys to come down unless they think they’re good players. He wanted me to come down with all that talent.”

“He’s been a good guy,” Chiles continued. “He’s been honest with me. Me and him, he’s from (Prince George’s County) and I know which school he actually went to, which is close to my house. He’s from this area and he’s been truthful with me. That’s all I can look for is him being honest. He told me what the future holds for me and the program.”

Reed serves as the primary recruiter for Chiles’ area, which is just north of Washington, D.C. Though, according to Chiles, Clemson is looking at him to play the linebacker position at the next level, but the Tigers don’t know whether they want him to play inside or outside just yet. They want to see how he grows.

Chiles broke his wrist prior to his sophomore season, so he missed the first game and was in a cast for a couple of games, which slowed him down a bit. Once he was able to shake off some of the rust towards the end of the season is when Chiles was finally able to showcase his talent and really show what he can do on the field.

He describes himself as a high-motor, sideline-to-sideline linebacker, who is also a plus blitzer. Chiles envisions himself as a hybrid player, there’s not one position that he can’t really play. He feels like he can play anywhere on the field.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Chiles has blown up. Prior to his sophomore season, he already held some high-profile offers from Power Five programs like the University of Virginia, Maryland and Boston College. He picked up an offer from Penn State on Dec. 4, 2021, and has since earned offers from Southern Cal, West Virginia, Miami, Virginia Tech, UConn, Ole Miss, Liberty, Rutgers, Texas A&M and Marshall.

“As a kid I dreamed of this, seeing all these guys have all these offers and stuff like that,” he said. “Right now, I’m just soaking it in the recruiting process because it only happens once. Right now, I’m just enjoying it.”

Chiles has been on visits to Virginia and Maryland and in addition to Clemson, he plans on visiting Penn State on Saturday, April 9. With that being said, what is he looking forward to seeing while on his visit to Clemson this week?

“I’m very excited,” Chiles said. “I’ve been seeing them play for a long time, win championships, so it’s an honor to be coming down there. I just want to see what the culture’s like, Death Valley and all that. I’m excited to see the atmosphere down there.”
