5 takeaways from Alabama’s early signing day

5 early signing day takeaways for Alabama

Yesterday, Nick Saban and Alabama hauled in some of the top talent from around the country on early signing day.

Currently, the Tide sits with the second-ranked class in the nation according to On3.

Now that the dust has settled and we have had time to reflect on some of the events from a wild Wednesday, I thought we could take a few moments to look at some of the key takeaways from this steller class for the Crimson Tide.

Let’s get started!

Alabama vs. LSU: 5 takeaways from the Tide’s ugly win over LSU

5 takeaways from the Tide’s ugly win over LSU

A win is a win. But not all wins are created equal. Alabama’s 20-14 win over LSU on Saturday night was one of the most painful wins to watch in recent memory.

Each week we take a look at five things we learned from that particular week’s contest. This week’s list is bound to create some controversy.

Let’s get started!

5 takeaways from Oregon’s uninspiring 48-7 win over Stony Brook

Oregon players would be the first to tell you they weren’t satisfied after the blowout over Stony Brook, but it left us with these 5 takeaways:

At the end of the day, the scoreboard at Autzen Stadium read 48-7 in favor of the Oregon Ducks, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a single player or coach in the locker room who was happy about the performance.

“There’s nothing satisfying about this win right now,” running back Travis Dye remarked following the game.

The Ducks got the job done on Saturday night, braving an early weather delay to eventually cover the massive 40-point spread and finish the day 1-0, continuing down their path towards an undefeated season and potential trip to the College Football Playoff.

How they got there wasn’t pretty, but it was effective in the end. Oregon led only by 10 points at the half, but an onslaught of 31-unanswered points on the second half allowed them to pick up a stress-free victory and give a litany of young players on the roster a great chance to gain some experience.

As always, there are a lot of things to correct, but Saturday had some benefits as well. Here are our major takeaways from the day:

5 takeaways from Oregon’s program-defining win over No. 3 Ohio State

The Ducks used a combination of dominant running and defensive effort to shock the Buckeyes, picking up a major win in Columbus.

The Oregon Ducks just did what nobody thought they were capable of.

Traveling across the country, playing at an odd time, and being asked to upset one of the best teams in the nation without two of your best players healthy, you aren’t supposed to win a football game.

More than that, you aren’t supposed to look like the dominant, more powerful team, especially when playing a college football blue-blood like No. 3 Ohio State.

Regardless of the odds, Mario Cristobal and his squad marched into Columbus and grabbed a statement win that is in contention for the biggest in Oregon’s non-conference history. On a national stage, in front of a skeptical audience, Oregon got the job done. Here are our biggest takeaways from the game:

5 takeaways from Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game win vs. Bills

Here is what you should take away from the Kansas City Chiefs’ win in AFC Championship Game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back winners of the AFC conference championship, defeating the Buffalo Bills 38-24. This was the most complete game fans have seen from this team this year as they dominated throughout most of the game despite having been down 9-0 to start the game. The Chiefs are now one win away from repeating as Super Bowl champions.

The Kansas City Chiefs win their eighth-straight game to move to 12-1 defeating the Miami Dolphins 33-27. The Chiefs had a slow start, but due to a big second and third quarter, they were able to put this game just out of reach for Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the Miami squad.

5 takeaways from Chiefs’ Week 13 win vs. Broncos

Here is what you should take away from the Chiefs’ win in Week 13.

The Chiefs move to 11-1 as they beat the Denver Broncos in a low scoring 22-16 game. The win guaranteed the Chiefs a spot in the postseason, which is the first step in the Chiefs’ ultimate goal to win a second consecutive Super Bowl. They’ll still be pushing to get the No.1 seed which currently belongs to the Steelers, but they did the hard part which is getting into the dance.

5 takeaways from Washington’s predictable 30-27 loss to Detroit Lions

Washington lost in predictable and heart-wrenching fashion after digging themselves into yet another hole they couldn’t climb out of.

It’s pretty hard not to say that we saw this one coming. When Washington fell down 17-3 in the first half, and later 24-3 in the third quarter, I don’t think there was anyone who was calling the came with 100 percent certainty, knowing Detroit’s history with blowing leads in epic fashion. I didn’t think that being down 21 points in the 3rd quarter meant that Washington was out of this game, but I did know that it was setting them up to lose in another incredibly frustrating fashion once again.

It’s something we’ve seen several times this year. In the first game of the season, Washington fell down big to the Eagles and was actually able to come back and win the game, but in a number of other instances — against the Cardinals, the Browns, the Giants (twice) — this team has a knack for digging themselves into a huge hole, climbing up to the very edge, and then getting kicked back to the bottom.

So was I surprised when Matthew Stafford was able to capitalize on a dumb penalty from Chase Young with just seconds remaining? No. Was I shocked to see Matt Prater’s 59-yard FG split the uprights as time expired? Definitely not.

You could see this one coming from a mile away. Close enough to keep you invested, and frustrating enough to leave you pulling your hair out. It’s the 2020 special in Washington, and it’s getting pretty freaking old.

Here are some of our biggest takeaways from the game:

5 takeaways from Chiefs’ Week 9 win vs. Panthers

Here is what you should take away from the Chiefs’ win in Week 9.

Every week in the NFL presents new challenges, even for the best teams. The Chiefs’ matchup against the panthers wasn’t supposed to be as close as it was, but the team will take any grind-it-out victory they can get as they make their push for the top playoff seed. With their offensive prowess on full display, Kansas City looked unstoppable for most of the game, but let Carolina hang around a bit too close for comfort for most fans.

It wasn’t their most dominating win this season, but they got the job done. With a mostly-clean injury report after the game, the Chiefs are primed to look even better after their bye next week.

5 takeaways from Chiefs’ Week 8 win vs. Jets

Here’s is what you should take away from the Chiefs’ win in Week 8.

Though the outcome of this week’s game was never in question, the Kansas City Chiefs’ domineering win over the New York Jets sets the table for the second half of the season. Contributions from players in every phase of the game, including a sweet fourth-down conversion from their new punter Tommy Townsend, made this matchup a signature win in a season that has already had several outstanding performances from Andy Reid and the Chiefs.

With a homestand against Carolina on deck for next week, here are our five takeaways from Kansas City’s Week 8 win:
