5-star 2025 OL picks up an offer from the Florida Gators

One of the top offensive linemen in the class of 2025, five-star tackle Mason Short, has picked up an offer from the University of Florida.

As the 2023 recruiting cycle comes to an end, Florida is beginning to shift its attention to players in the class of 2024 and 2025. Most recently, the Gators offered 2025 five-star offensive tackle [autotag]Mason Short[/autotag], according to 247Sports.

Short was in attendance for Florida’s win over South Carolina on Saturday, and he left town with an offer in hand. UF joins Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee in the race for Short. Each program has extended him an early offer in hope of getting on his good side.

Florida’s recruiting team appears to be treating Short as a priority target, and the Evans High (Evans, Georgia) recruit enjoyed the “amazing atmosphere” he got to experience over the weekend.

“I got to see everything facility wise which was incredible,” Short said. “The staff was very attentive to me and my family throughout my visit which I greatly appreciated.”

At 6-foot-7-inches tall and 280 pounds, Short possesses the size to play in the SEC, and he’s only a sophomore. He’ll be able to refine his game and grow into his body over the next two years while teams try to convince him that their program his the right fit for him.

The 247Sports composite ranks Short No. 28 overall in the class of 2025 and No. 3 among offensive tackles. The site’s individual rankings have him a bit lower overall at No. 38, but he’s up to No. 2 among tackles to make up for it.

LSU offers No. 1 receiver in the class of 2025

The Tigers are getting in early for Caleb Cunningham, an elite 6-foot-3 receiver prospect.

[autotag]Caleb Cunningham[/autotag] is a 2025, five-star, 6-foot-3, 175-pound, wide receiver from Ackerman, Mississippi, where he plays for Choctaw County High School. The Chargers finished the regular season 5-5 and 3-1 in region play. They won their first-round playoff game against Belmont 61-14 last Friday and they will travel to Leflore County for round two this Friday.

Film Analysis: Cunningham is a big receiver that demands a double or triple team on every play or he will beat you. Even in those situations, he will go up and highpoint the ball over everyone. He runs great routes as well. That combination makes him the No. 1 receiver in the country.

Gators look to get this top 2025 LB for game day return trip

The Gators are working hard for this future star linebacker.

Florida football is in the thick of its 2022 schedule but that does not mean that [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. are not grinding away on the recruiting trail as well. While the team has struggled on the field the staff continues to utilize every opportunity to bring the best prep prospects to play in the Swamp.

Among those currently being courted by the Orange and Blue is five-star linebacker [autotag]Jadon Perlotte[/autotag] out of Buford, Georgia, who ranks highly in the class of 2025 both nationally and at his position. The 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound defender is currently working on scheduling a second visit to Gainesville according to Gators Online, with the South Carolina Gamecocks matchup set as his primary target.

“Just talked to my mom today. She is working on it,” he offered when asked about visiting Florida next weekend. “It’s one of the best schools I’ve ever been to.”

Perlotte received an offer from the Gators back in late June when he made his first trip to campus during the program’s summer camp. He was specifically impressed with the way his recruitment was handled and the amount of attention he was given during that visit.

“Their coaches are unbelievable. They care a lot about their players,” the young recruit told Gators Online prior. “It’s also the culture and tradition, so they do things differently down there compared to other schools. That’s why I really needed to get to a game down there.”

Other schools in the running for the future gridiron star are the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns, Oregon Ducks and Miami Hurricanes.

Perlotte is a five-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite, which ranks him at No. 33 overall No. 4 at his position nationally. On3’s consensus, however, has him rated at four stars while ranking at Nos. 35 and 3, respectively. The Gamecocks are currently out in front early for his talents with a 22.4% chance of signing him per On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine while the Gators are a close second at 19.6%.

LSU offers 2025 linebacker prospect

Mantrez Walker, a 6-foot linebacker from Buford, Georgia, is still early in his high school career but has a lot of potential..

[autotag]Mantrez Walker[/autotag] is a 2025, 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker from Buford, Georgia, where he plays for Buford High School. The Wolves are nationally recognized as one of the best teams in the country every year, and that hasn’t changed this season as the Wolves are 9-0 with one region game left before playoffs. The Wolves are going for their fourth straight GHSA 6A state championship.

Film Analysis: Walker isn’t the biggest linebacker in the world at 6-foot, but that doesn’t stop him from wreaking havoc against opposing teams. He is not afraid to bring the boom to anyone. He has great football instincts that help him be in the right place in just about every play.

LSU offers 2025 linebacker from Texas

Kelvion Riggins is a talented linebacker with explosive speed and high athleticism.

[autotag]Kelvion Riggins[/autotag] is a 2025, four-star, 6-foot-1, 200-pound linebacker from Dallas where he plays for South Oak Cliff High School. The South Oak Cliff Bears are 6-3 overall and 5-0 in district play this season with only one district game remaining. The Bears will play Wilson for a district championship next Friday on the road.

Film Analysis: Riggins is an insanely athletic linebacker that can do it all. I don’t know what his forty-yard dash time is, but it has gotta be fast. If he times the snap just right and is running full speed, he could just about take the handoff from the quarterback in the backfield.

LSU offers 2025 five-star receiver

The Tigers offered the top wide receiver in the 2025 class in Dakorien Moore.

[autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] is a 2025, five-star, 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver from Duncanville, Texas, where he plays for Duncanville High School. Moore starred as a freshman for one of the best high school football teams in the country last season. This year, the Panthers are 7-0 and 5-0 in district play with two district games remaining before playoffs. They will play DeSoto Friday night for the district championship.

Film Analysis: Moore is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the country for the 2025 class by 247Sports and rightfully so. Moore is an incredible route runner, and he can take the top off of any defense with his speed.

Tracking which recruits attend Florida’s Week 7 matchup with LSU

There will be a ton of recruits visiting the Swamp this weekend to see Florida face LSU.

The Florida Gators are set to host the LSU Tigers over the weekend for a major SEC matchup, but those aren’t the only visitors that Billy Napier and Company need to worry about this week. The recruiting team is set to host dozens of elite prospects from three different classes on Saturday (2023, 2024 and 2025).

Keeping track of all those prospects can get confusing, but we’ve got you covered. Below is every confirmed visitor, both official and unofficial, for the weekend. Some big names, such as five-star cornerback [autotag]Cormani McClain[/autotag], are still up in the air right now, but Gators Wire will update this list throughout the weekend and include the newest additions at the top.

Florida’s coming off a pair of commitments on Thursday from cornerback [autotag]Dijon Johnson[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Bryce Thornton[/autotag], which brings the class of 2023 to 22 total commitments. There’s still room to add a player or two, though, and the Gators are rolling out the red carpet this week.

Gators to get this 5-star QB recruit on campus for Sunday’s game

Despite the postponement, Florida is still on track to get this coveted quarterback on campus Sunday.

Florida football continues its efforts on the recruiting trail this weekend as the team gets set to face the Eastern Washington Eagles on Sunday after getting pushed back a day by Hurricane Ian. Among those who will be in attendance as the Gators host their FCS opponent in the Swamp is one of the top prospects in the 2025 class.

Five-star quarterback Colin Hurley out of Jacksonville (Florida) Trinity Christian was originally set to visit on Saturday, but despite the delay, still plans on attending the game, according to Swamp247. The highly coveted recruit was pursued heavily by [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag]’s administration and he is looking to rekindle that passion with [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co.

“Being offered by the new staff means a lot to me,” he noted. “Obviously, I was the No. 1 target for the previous staff. It was very important for me to get in front of the new staff. I got to meet them, but at the same time, I got to show them why I am the top quarterback in the 2025 class and even the 24s as well. I think I did that. I feel like they were impressed with what I can do. I only live 67 miles away and they clearly target the Jacksonville area, so I think I am a target for them.”

The visit will be the third time he has stepped foot in Gainesville since Napier took over, having visited back in July for the Friday Night Lights event while also attending the season opener against the Utah Utes. It appears that the new members of the Orange and Blue have made a significant impression on him.

“The recruiting department with Ms. Katie (Turner) and Ms. Bri (Wade) is one of the most welcoming environments a recruit could ask for,” he gushed. “They really make recruits and families feel at home. The new football facility is state-of-the-art and second to none. It houses everything a program, coach and player could ever want, or need, all under one roof.”

Hurley is ranked No. 24 overall and No. 3 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 23 and 2, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has the Gators with a slight lead over the LSU Tigers at 27.7% (vs. 24.2%) while the Ohio State Buckeyes wrap up the top three with a 14.1% chance of landing him.

The game is set to kick off at noon EDT on Sunday inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and can either be watched on the SEC Network+ or heard on the Gators Radio Network.

2025 5-star DL planning return to Swamp after visiting for USF game

One of the top recruits in the class of 2025 got his first taste of game-day action in the Swamp on Saturday, and he’s already planning a return visit.

One of the top recruits in the class of 2025, five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Armondo Blount[/autotag], was in Gainesville over the weekend to see the Florida Gators take on the USF Bulls.

Saturday was Blount’s first game-day experience at a school other than the University of Miami, which is the closest Power Five program to Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale. He caught up with Blake Alderman of 247Sports following the visit and the Swamp appears to have impressed. Assistant defensive line coach Kareem Reid was his host for most of the night, and he made sure the sophomore took in the full SEC experience.

“He was just telling me to stay tuned for a good game and how it’s different in The Swamp,” Blount said. “It was different. Way different than anything I have ever seen before. This was my first college game outside of Miami.”

Blount has plans to return to the Swamp, too. He’s penciled in the LSU game on October 15 for his next visit. If he thought the USF game was loud, he’ll be even more impressed by the crowd for LSU.

It’s still very early in the recruiting process for Blount, but Florida’s getting on his good side early for a reason. He’s ranked fifth overall in the class of 2025 on the 247Sports composite and is the No. 2 defensive lineman in the class.
