Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies to reveal Lone Star Showdown plans

Texas A&M and Texas will hold a joint press conference next Thursday, August 22, to make an announcement regarding the Lone Star Showdown.

The rivalry renewal of Texas vs. Texas A&M is already the hottest ticket in the country. Now, it seems officials at the two schools are teaming up to make the game even bigger.

Texas A&M Athletic Director Trev Alberts and Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte will hold a joint press conference next Thursday, August 22, to make an announcement regarding the Lone Star Showdown.

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out exactly what they have planned. There’s been a lot of speculation that they could make the game a neutral site game. But that seems very unlikely.

The announcement will probably introduce a primary sponsor of the game. The Red River Rivalry with Oklahoma has its own title sponsor in Allstate. The duo could also announce some events surrounding the game.

The two schools haven’t played in football since 2011, A&M’s final year in the Big 12. 12 years later, both teams are both in the SEC and the annual game will begin again.

Texas beat A&M, in what was thought to be the series’ final game, 27-25 on a Case McCoy led comeback capped by a Justin Tucker FG as time ran out.

The 2024 game will cost fans a pretty penny. SportKeeda has ranked the Top 10 most expensive games in college football this year. The Texas-Texas A&M game ranks No. 1 with the average ticket price at $625 dollars.

Texas at Michigan named biggest non-conference game of 2024 by USA TODAY Sports

USA Today declares Texas Longhorns at Michigan Wolverines ‘the biggest non-conference game’ of 2024 in new Top 10 list.

As a new member of the SEC, the Texas Longhorns will have a lot of big conference games this year. The Horns will take on old rival No. 16 Oklahoma and host No. 1 Georgia in October. Texas will host Florida and renew rivalries with Arkansas and Texas A&M in November.

But before the Longhorns even start their SEC schedule, they must first travel to Ann Arbor for a huge matchup vs. Michigan. Texas fans have had the game circled on the calendar for years. The anticipation has only increased with the Wolverines as defending national champion and the game coinciding with the year Texas joins the SEC.

Now, in a new list of the Top 10 best non-conference games of the year, USA TODAY Sports, has declared Texas at Michigan the biggest of the year. The two programs last met in the 2005 Rose Bowl.

Texas played in arguably the biggest non-conference game last year, when the Longhorns beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Texas carried that momentum all the way to the college football playoff.

Non-conference games might lose a little impact with the playoff expanding to 12 teams. There will definitely be more wiggle room. But that also should make big, early season non-conference games more prevalent.

USA Today says the impact of the Texas-Michigan game could be far reaching.

September 7: Texas Longhorns at Michigan Wolverines

This is the biggest non-conference game of the year. Even if Michigan takes a step back as expected, the defending national champions could upend the early playoff chase by handing Texas a road loss. The fallout from a Michigan win would impact the perception of the SEC and Big Ten, a big deal given that both leagues will have multiple teams in the mix for at-large playoff bids. While the loser wouldn’t be eliminated from the mix by any means, the winner will have a huge tiebreaker to show the selection committee in early December.

Six of the Top 10 non-conference games involve SEC teams:

August 31: Clemson Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs (in Atlanta)

August 31: Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Texas A&M Aggies

September 1: USC Trojans vs. LSU Tigers (in Las Vegas)

September 7: Texas Longhorns at Michigan Wolverines

September 7: Tennessee Volunteers at NC State Wolfpack

September 14: Alabama Crimson Tide at Wisconsin Badgers

Former UDub freshman RHP Sidne Peters commits to Texas A&M in softball transfer portal

Aggies softball head coach Trisha Ford is reloading for next year via the NCAA Transfer Portal and she has already landed a Top 10 pitcher.

Texas A&M softball coach Trisha Ford is reloading for next year via the NCAA Transfer Portal and she has already landed a Top 10 underclassman pitcher.

Former University of Washington freshman right-hander Sidne Peters announced her commitment to the Aggies on Wednesday via Instagram.

Softball America had Peters slotted in the top 10 of its transfer portal rankings. She is a native of Sante Fe, Texas.

“All is good in Aggieland,” Peters stated on social media.

During her lone season in Seattle, Peters was named to the final Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. No joke, she was named the folded conference’s Freshman of the Week on April Fool’s Day.

Peters played in 26 games and made 5 starts for the Huskies. She tallied 62.2 innings in the circle with an 8-1 record, 3.35 earned run average and 70 strikeouts. During Pac-12 play, Peters had a team-best 2.15 ERA with a 5-0 record.

Six takeaways from the 2024 Texas football schedule

10-2 should make a 12-team playoff easily with the Longhorns’ 2024 schedule.

The SEC schedule complete with dates was released Wednesday night. No doubt it has Texas fans fired up for the team’s inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference.

The schedule is about as favorable as they could make it while being fair to other teams across the league. Perhaps only Texas A&M, who avoids both Georgia and Alabama and gets Texas at home, has the only easier schedule on the western side of the conference.

Here’s a look at the complete schedule.

  1. Colorado State
  2. at Michigan
  3. UTSA
  4. Louisiana-Monroe
  5. Mississippi State
  6. BYE
  7. at Oklahoma (home)
  8. Georgia
  9. at Vanderbilt
  10. BYE
  11. Florida
  12. at Arkansas
  13. Kentucky
  14. at Texas A&M

Texas will face its fair share of top opponents. The Longhorns face the Michigan Wolverines in Week 2 in what will surely carry one of the bigger television audiences of the season. By midseason, Texas faces Oklahoma and Georgia in back to back games.

Let’s look at a few takeaways from what seems to be a manageable first SEC schedule.

Ranking the 2024 SEC schedules from easiest to toughest

The 2024 SEC football schedules have finally been released.

The 2024 SEC football schedules have finally been released. So today we are going to take a look at what teams have the easiest and what teams have the toughest schedules for next fall.

The way I have calculated the strength of the schedules is by totaling the wins and losses from the 2023 schedule for each of the team’s 2024 opponents. That has led us to these two conclusions: Missouri has the biggest cupcake schedule of the entire conference. They are the only team in the SEC that plays teams that finished with an overall losing record in 2023.

On the other end of that spectrum, Billy Napier and the Florida Gators drew the short end of the straw as they wound up with the toughest schedule in the SEC and maybe in the entire NCAA. The Gators play teams that finished with a combined record of 102-44 in 2023.

Here’s how all 2024 SEC schedules stack up.

5 takeaways from the Oklahoma Sooners 2024 schedule

Oklahoam received its first schedule as SEC members and here our five takeaways from the daunting slate.

It is here, and it is glorious. Wednesday was a busy day for Oklahoma as a program.

The Sooners landed a commitment from transfer running back Sam Franklin, prepping for the [autotag]Alamo Bowl[/autotag] began and recruiting high school and [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag] players was in high gear.

To end the night, the Sooners received a look at what Oklahoma will be going up against in their first year as SEC members. ESPN released the schedules for SEC teams, and Oklahoma now knows when and where it will play in its first SEC season.

Here’s a full look at the 2024 schedule and now we’ve got five instant takeaways from Oklahoma’s first SEC schedule.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 football schedule

A look at the Oklahoma Sooners full schedule for 2024, their first in the SEC.

The SEC unveiled its schedule for the 2024 season, so now we know when the Sooners will play their new conference foes next season.

The schedule was always going to be daunting. You don’t move to the SEC without an understanding that you’re playing the best of the best nearly every week. But there are some positives in the Sooners’ schedule, such as the bye week before the Red River Showdown and another before the closing two-game stretch against Alabama and LSU.

The Sooners start with four consecutive games at home before going on the road to Auburn, Alabama, for their first SEC road game in their new conference.

Here’s a look at the Oklahoma Sooners’ full 2024 football schedule.

BREAKING: LSU’s full 2024 football schedule revealed

The Tigers learned their first slate of games as the SEC moves to 16 teams in 2024.

The SEC is entering a new era in 2024.

The conference expands to 16 teams with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, and that means the abolition of divisions and the scheduling format that has existed since 2012.

On Wednesday night, the league announced the full slate of games next fall, and for LSU, there’s certainly a lot to be excited about. The season is bookended by some key matchups as the Tigers play USC and UCLA in the first month of the season.

In November, the Tigers draw Alabama, Florida and Oklahoma.

Without further ado, here’s LSU’s full 2024 football schedule as [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] looks to take this program to the next level in Year 3.

How to watch the 2024 SEC football schedule reveal on Wednesday night

Here’s how you can follow along as LSU learns what its path through the new SEC will look like in 2024.

The SEC is set to undergo some serious changes in 2024 with Oklahoma and Texas joining the conference.

As the league expands to 16 teams, the divisions that have existed since 1992 are no more. With that also comes a massive change to both scheduling and how the championship participants are decided.

LSU already knows which league opponents it will face in 2024, but it doesn’t yet know the full schedule. That information will be revealed on Wednesday night with a live special aired on ESPN and the SEC Network.

Here’s all the information you need to follow along as LSU learns exactly what its gauntlet in the new SEC will look like.

  • Date: December 13, 2023
  • Time: 6 p.m. CT
  • TV: ESPN/SEC Network
  • App: WatchESPN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch here)

In the meantime, here’s what we know so far about LSU’s schedule. Dates are listed if they’ve already been revealed.

SEC schedule dates to be released at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday night

The Longhorns 2024 conference schedule dates are set to be revealed Wednesday night on the SEC Network.

The Texas Longhorns will play in a different conference next season. On Wednesday night we will learn what days they will play their scheduled 2024 opponents.

The Longhorns opponents were revealed prior to the team’s impressive 2023 season. We know the team’s home and away opponents. Famously, the SEC designated Texas A&M and Arkansas as home teams against Texas. The Longhorns are also set to face Vanderbilt, Oklahoma (Dallas) and Michigan away from Austin.

The bulk of Texas’ schedule will take place at home. The team will play host to Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Colorado State, Louisiana-Monroe and UTSA in 2024.

Schedule dates for the Georgia, Arkansas and Texas A&M games have been released. Texas will face Georgia on Oct. 19, Arkansas on Nov. 16 and Texas A&M in Nov. 30. Facing classic rivals Arkansas and Texas A&M within a two week span has to excite the fanbase heading into 2024.

The team’s first SEC schedule is more favorable than the team it enters the league with this season. Though, in fairness to Texas, the Longhorns have Michigan in their nonconference slate.

Oklahoma will have to face LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri and Auburn on the road with just three true home games against Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina. Their neutral site game against Texas will count as their fourth home game.

Where Texas’ games land might determine how favorable the Longhorns’ schedule will be next season. The schedule reveal will take place at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network and ESPN.
