Where does LSU’s 2024 recruiting class rank after recent shakeups?

Here’s where LSU’s class ranks after some recent shakeups.

LSU’s 2024 class looks different than it did last week.

It took a hit when cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] flipped to Georgia. It’s a big loss considering Evans was just one of eight top 200 commits in the class and plays a position of need.

The staff did its best to recoup the loss, though. In recent days, the Tigers got commitments from corners [autotag]PJ Woodland[/autotag] and [autotag]Bernard Causey[/autotag]. Both are three stars, but there’s optimism about what they can bring to the class.

The Tigers now sit with five corners in the 2024 class. Causey and Woodland are joined by [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag].

Even with the new additions and the young talent already on the roster, expect LSU to be active recruiting defensive backs in the portal.

But after the recent shakeups, let’s take a look at where LSU’s class stands now.

On3: 11th

247Sports: 12th

The loss of Evans knocked LSU’s class out of the top 10, but the Tigers are in pursuit of top 100 wide receiver [autotag]Dre’lon Miller[/autotag], who decommitted from Texas A&M after a visit to Baton Rouge.

A commitment from Miller would put LSU back in the top 10.

Where does LSU stand in updated On3 recruiting rankings?

On3 has released its latest rankings for the 2024 recruiting class, and the LSU Tigers are inside the top 10.

On3 has released its latest rankings for the 2024 recruiting class, and the LSU Tigers are inside the top 10.

The Tigers are currently in eighth place, which is the fifth-highest team in the SEC. Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M and Alabama are all ahead of LSU, and Tennessee and Oklahoma are right behind the Tigers.

LSU currently has 24 commits for the 2024 recruiting class. The class is highlighted by four-star safety [autotag]Dashawn McBryde[/autotag] from Denham Springs, Louisiana.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has 24 commits from high school alone. That does not include the players he may pull out of the transfer portal. Last year, he signed 26 kids out of high school and 14 players out of the transfer portal.

Kelly has used the transfer portal to rebuild the LSU secondary in the past couple of years. That has resulted in some growing pains but LSU is working through them.

We will see how this recruiting class pans out but it is looking good so far.

Where Caden Durham’s addition places LSU in On3’s 2024 team recruiting rankings

The Tigers secured their 24th commitment in the 2024 cycle on Thursday.

LSU landed its first running back commitment in the 2024 cycle on Thursday in [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag].

While LSU landed the four-star, top-200 prospect from Duncanville, Texas, the Tigers did miss on Durham’s high school teammate in [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag], a five-star edge rusher who was LSU’s top target.

Picking up both would have put the Tigers squarely in the top five of the 2024 recruiting rankings, but Durham’s addition was still enough to give LSU a boost.

The Tigers’ class now ranks seventh according to 247Sports, and it moved up in On3’s team rankings, as well. Here’s how On3’s top 15 looks following the addition of Durham.

LSU rises in recruiting rankings after landing Caden Durham

Caden Durham’s addition has lifted LSU in the latest recruiting rankings.

LSU went 1-for-2 on a pair of Duncanville (Tex.) targets on Thursday.

The Tigers missed out on the top prospect on their board in five-star edge rusher [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag], who committed to Texas, but they beat out Oklahoma and Texas A&M to land four-star running back [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag].

Durham, a top-200 prospect, gives LSU its first running back commitment in the class. With another blue-chip joining the Tigers’ 23-man 2024 recruiting class, coach Brian Kelly’s group of commits has risen in the recruiting rankings and now sits squarely within the top 10.

Here’s where LSU stands in the latest top 25 of the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Latest commitment moves LSU’s 2024 class into top 10, per On3

With Jelani Watkins on board, LSU’s class is back in the top 10.

LSU added its 23rd commitment in the 2024 recruiting class last week when Jelani Watkins, a four-star receiver from Houston, pledged to the Tigers.

With that commitment, LSU’s class has snuck into the top-10 nationally, according to On3’s team rankings. Now, the Tigers’ haul currently ranks 10th in the country according to both On3 and 247Sports.

While a top-10 class is nothing to scoff at, LSU would like to be a little bit higher. Despite having a fairly full class already, this team still has the chance to rise some more with two of its top targets in five-star edge rusher [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag] and four-star running back [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag] both set to announce their commitments on Thursday.

The high school teammates from Duncanville, Texas, only have one commonality in their list of finalists — LSU — and they’ll be committing on the same day.

If LSU lands both players, it will likely have a class that’s pushing closer to the top five.

Four-star CB Selman Bridges to make commitment announcement on Friday

Texas will battle Arkansas for a second Top 50 recruit in the 2024 class on Friday.

It’s about that time. Top 50 recruit Selman Bridges is set to commit to his school of choice on Friday, July 14. Texas faithful would welcome a commitment to their hometown team. While it’s rumored that Arkansas is the likely school of choice, the commitment is still worth watching for Texas.

Bridges is one of a few 2024 recruits who could bring a historically good cornerback class to Texas. In the early 2000s, the Longhorns were among the best universities in sending cornerbacks and safeties to the NFL. Even among those great secondaries, this group could be special.

Bridges has a chance to join Texas commits Santana Wilson and Jordon Johnson-Rubell as well as the uncommitted trio of Kobe Black, Corian Gipson and Wardell Mack in Austin. Even so, the elite and lengthy cornerback doesn’t have to play second fiddle to anyone. He seems to be one that relishes the prospect of competition with fellow talented defensive backs.

Texas already has one Top 50 recruit in the boat in 2024 running back Jerrick Gibson. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and company will look to add a second Top 50 player on Friday.

Where ESPN ranks LSU’s 2024 recruiting class at start of July

The Tigers added four commits in June, but they also lost three.

At the start of the month of July, LSU is in a pretty good spot as far as recruiting for the 2024 class.

The Tigers have 18 players committed after adding four pledges in the month of June. Two of them, cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and offensive tackle [autotag]Ethan Calloway[/autotag], are the third and fourth-highest-rated prospects in the class by 247Sports.

It hasn’t all been good news for LSU on the trail, though. It suffered its first three decommitments of the cycle this month in [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag], [autotag]Maurice Williams Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Zion Ferguson[/autotag].

With these changes, LSU’s class now ranks 10th nationally in ESPN’s rankings, dropping three spots since the last update.

ESPN 300 commits: 9 | Previous ranking: 7

SEC rank: 3 of 14
Top offensive commit: TE Trey’Dez Green (No. 99)
Top defensive commit: S Dashawn McBryde (No. 124)

Coach Brian Kelly’s first full class at the helm was among the best in the country. He has the Tigers recruiting at a high level again for 2024, securing his QB last fall in Colin Hurley, a passer with a strong arm who can create on the move and make off-platform throws. Several key pickups are from the important in-state recruiting pool. TE Trey’Dez Green is a big receiving target with elite length, fluidity and a frame to further develop as a red zone threat. Dashawn McBryde has the tools to be one of the Tigers’ next impact defensive backs, as he can be a versatile defender. He has the speed and agility to be a factor in coverage and can also support the run with an aggressive downhill style. LB Kolaj Cobbins and safety Joel Rogers are also among the top five prospects in Louisiana.

The Tigers currently only have two prospects that rank in the top 200 of the 247Sports Composite, though they remain in the mix for a few big-time targets and could improve the class despite it sitting at 18 commits.

For now, however, there’s some work to be done if this team wants to get back closer to the top five in the current cycle.

Where do the Sooners stand in On3’s team recruiting rankings after recent commitments?

The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up several commitments in the last couple of weeks. Where do they stand in On3’s team recruiting rankings?

The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up momentum on the recruiting trail with the recent commitments of Xavier Robinson, Wyatt Gilmore and Ivan Carreon. That makes back-to-back weeks the Sooners have landed pledges from multiple prospects, three of which were four-star prospects.

The rest of the summer could be even bigger as the Sooners await decisions from five-star prospects [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag], [autotag]Terry Bussey[/autotag] and [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag]. The Sooners appear best-positioned for Nwaneri and Stone, but their efforts have given them an outside shot at the other three.

The Sooners are also awaiting decisions on running backs [autotag]Taylor Tatum[/autotag] and [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], a pair of players that have been trending toward Oklahoma for some time. And we know [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] and Oklahoma will add several more offensive linemen to the class.

With what’s still to come, the Oklahoma Sooners appear heading toward another top-10 class in the [autotag]2024 recruiting cycle[/autotag].

Here’s a look at how the top 25 stacks up in On3’s team recruiting rankings as of July 2. Interestingly, the SEC is very prominent in the rankings: 13 of the 16 teams that will make up the conference in 2024 are inside the top 25.

Predicting 20 players we think will be Longhorns in the 2024 class

If the recruiting class goes as we expect, the Longhorns are in for a HAUL.

Texas is going to have a chance to build a strong 2024 recruiting class over the next few months. It all starts this weekend. The Longhorns are set to host several key players in a class that could haul in several five-star and high four-star players.

Last weekend, the program hosted multiple big name players and earned three huge commitments. Two commitments came from the state of Arizona, continuing a good trend there in recruiting.

This weekend the program brings in one of its most high profile lineups of recruiting visitors. Colin Simmons, Kobe Black and Jerrick Gibson headline of group of star players.

With an influx of talented prospects visiting the Forty Acres, here are 20 players we think could be Longhorns when all is said and done.

Where LSU stands in ESPN’s updated 2024 recruiting rankings

LSU added three players to its now 18-man recruiting class in the month of June.

The month of June treated the Tigers well on the recruiting trail.

LSU added a pair of blue-chip players in the secondary to the 2024 class in four-star cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag]. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] also secured the commitment of three-star receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag], while receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] shut down his recruitment.

It wasn’t all good news this month as four-star tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag] decommitted, but LSU remains in a good spot for this cycle as we get into the heat of the summer.

ESPN recently released its updated recruiting rankings for 2024, and LSU’s class sits at No. 7.

ESPN 300 commits: 7 | Previous ranking: 5

SEC rank: 3 of 14
Top offensive commit: TE Trey’Dez Green (No. 105)
Top defensive commit: S Maurice Williams (No. 129)

Brian Kelly’s first full class at the helm was among the best in the country. He has the Tigers recruiting at a high level again for 2024, securing his QB last fall in Colin Hurley, a passer with an arm that can create on the move and make off-platform throws. After signing three four-stars out of Texas, they continue to pull defensive talent out of the Lone Star State, now in ESPN 300 defender Maurice Williams. Several key pickups are from important in-state recruiting pool. TE Trey’Dez Green is a big receiving target with elite length, fluidity and a frame to further develop as a red zone threat. LB Kolaj Cobbins and safety Joel Rogers are among the top five prospects in Louisiana.

Talent acquisition — both through the transfer portal and high school recruiting — has been a strength since Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge. He’ll hope to close things out strong as LSU still has several top uncommitted options on the table.
