Twitter reacts to Colts QB Gardner Minshew’s Pro Bowl selection

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Gardner Minshew being named a Pro Bowler.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew was selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, marking the first time in his career he achieved the feat.

Considering the fact that Minshew wasn’t even on the initial list of alternates, this certainly comes as a surprise. Minshew took over the starting role after rookie Anthony Richardson suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery in Week 5.

Over the course of the season, Minshew started 13 games, completing 62.2% of his passes for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions and an 84.6 passer rating.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news that Minshew was named a Pro Bowler:

Gardner Minshew is heading to the Pro Bowl.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew was named to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games as a replacement, the team announced Tuesday.

Considering Minshew wasn’t even voted as an alternate initially, this certainly comes as a surprise. It seems Minshew will be replacing Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was not on the finalized Pro Bowl roster despite being voted in earlier in the season.

This is the first time in his career Minshew has been selected to the Pro Bowl, and he will join Houston Texans’ C.J. Stroud and Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa on the AFC squad.

Minshew also will join three teammates in Orlando. Left guard Quenton Nelson was the only Colts player voted as a starter in December while center Ryan Kelly and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner also were added to the roster as replacements Tuesday.

Colts’ Ryan Kelly, DeForest Buckner named to 2024 Pro Bowl Games

Two more Colts are heading to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner were named to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games as replacements, the team announced Tuesday.

Both Kelly and Buckner will be joining left guard Quenton Nelson at the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando. Nelson was the only Colts player voted as a starter for the Pro Bowl.

Kelly is replacing Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey, who won’t be able to participate in the all-star weekend due to the Super Bowl being the following week.

Kelly enjoyed an incredible bounce-back campaign. Even though he missed three games due to two separate concussions, Kelly was one of the best centers in the entire league.

According to Pro Football Focus, Kelly’s seven total pressures allowed were the fewest among all NFL centers with at least 300 pass-blocking snaps. He also allowed just one sack on the season.

Buckner is likely replacing Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones. The veteran continued to be the engine of the entire Colts defense by putting together another stellar campaign.

A model of consistency, Buckner led the team in quarterback hits (21) and total pressures (52) while seeing the fourth-highest double-team rate among all NFL interior defensive linemen (66%), according to ESPN. He also finished the season with 8.0 sacks, the third time in the last four seasons he’s hit that mark.

This is Buckner’s third-career Pro Bowl selection (2018, 2021) and the fourth selection for Kelly (2019-2021).

5 Jaguars who were 2024 Pro Bowl Games snubs

Two Jaguars players earned Pro Bowl nods, but there are a few more players who should’ve joined them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had just two players on the list of 88 who earned 2024 Pro Bowl honors: outside linebacker Josh Allen and long snapper Ross Matiscik.

There’s still a chance that other Jacksonville players will eventually join that duo. Last year, zero Jaguars earned Pro Bowl honors on the initial roster announcements, but quarterback Trevor Lawrence and return specialist Jamal Agnew after injuries and the Super Bowl opened up more spots.

Ideally for the Jaguars, they’d have zero players participating in February and the team would instead be preparing for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Until then or a time when more Jaguars are added to the rosters, here are xxx players who didn’t deserve to be left out Wednesday:

Josh Allen, Ross Matiscik earn 2024 Pro Bowl Games honors

Two Jaguars earned Pro Bowl honors this year.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had two players on the list of 88 who earned 2024 Pro Bowl honors.

On Wednesday, the NFL revealed the rosters for the Pro Bowl Games, which featured Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen and long snapper Ross Matiscik.

Allen is no surprise with the outside linebacker just 0.5 sacks off the league lead. This season he’s broken the Jaguars’ single-season record for sacks with 16.5 through 16 games and has added an interception and two forced fumbles to boot.

Masticik is a little more surprising after he didn’t earn a spot in the top 10 at his position in the fan voting portion of the calculation. Evidently, the Jaguars’ fourth-year player has earned the respect of his peers and NFL coaches, who account for the other two-thirds of the vote.

Last season, no Jaguars earned a spot in the initial Pro Bowl announcement. Injuries and the Super Bowl created space for quarterback Trevor Lawrence and return specialist Jamal Agnew to receive the honors.

Unlike previous years, there will be no actual Pro Bowl game. Instead, players will play various games that include dodgeball, tug of war, and a seven-on-seven flag football game.

3 Colts among top-10 at their position in Pro Bowl voting

A trio of Colts are top-10 at their position in Pro Bowl fan votes.

With fan voting commencing for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, the Indianapolis Colts have three players among the top-10 at their respective positions.

Linebacker Zaire Franklin has the third-most votes among inside linebackers behind only Fred Warner and Roquan Smith. He currently ranks second in total tackles (130) and solo tackles (80). Franklin has never been voted to the Pro Bowl.

Left guard Quenton Nelson has enjoyed a bounce-back season and is currently seventh among guards in Pro Bowl voting. He’s back to moving people at will in the run game, and his 16 total pressures allowed ranks 12th among guards with at least 319 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He has been voted to the Pro Bowl five times in his first six seasons.

Cornerback Kenny Moore II also is enjoying a bounce-back campaign in Gus Bradley’s system. Even though the NFL still doesn’t have a slot defender position for the Pro Bowl, Moore ranks 10th among cornerbacks in Pro Bowl voting. His 71.6 passer rating allowed in coverage ranks 11th among cornerbacks with at least 275 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. His 70.2 passer rating allowed from the slot is the best mark among all slot defenders.

There do appear to be a few snubs from the list. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is once again having a stellar season and continues to be one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL.

Making a case for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has been difficult in the past, but he warrants consideration this season. He ranks fourth in receptions (87) and 14th in receiving yards (889), doing so with a backup quarterback.

The edge rusher group is deep every year, but the Colts have gotten some strong production from Samson Ebukam and Kwity Paye while safety Julian Blackmon has the sixth-lowest passer rating allowed in coverage among safeties with at least 262 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fan voting for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games continues until Monday, Dec. 25. That will account for one-third of the votes with NFL players and coaches casting their votes on Friday, Dec. 29, accounting for the final two-thirds.

The 2024 Pro Bowl Games will begin with a skill competition on Feb. 1, 2024, and conclude on Feb. 4, 2024, with the flag football game.

6 Cowboys lead NFC’s Pro Bowl vote at their positions; 11 more within reach

From @ToddBrock24f7: Two current leaders are Cowboys who have never been to the Pro Bowl; several others are close to the conference lead at their position.

The NFL has announced its first round of leading vote-getters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, and several Cowboys stars are among the leaders.

Six Cowboys currently lead the NFC at their respective positions:

  • QB Dak Prescott
  • WR CeeDee Lamb
  • OG Zack Martin
  • OLB Micah Parsons
  • CB DaRon Bland
  • K Brandon Aubrey

This would mark the first Pro Bowl nods for Bland and Aubrey.

Eleven other Cowboys players find themselves in the Top 10 (leaguewide) at their slots:

  • RB Tony Pollard, 10th
  • TE Jake Ferguson, 7th
  • OG Tyler Smith, 4th
  • OT Tyron Smith, 3rd
  • OT Terence Steele, 9th
  • C Tyler Biadasz, 6th
  • KR/PR KaVontae Turpin, 4th
  • P Bryan Anger, 8th
  • LS Trent Sieg, 2nd
  • CB Stephon Gilmore, 8th
  • ST Sam Williams, 2nd

Notable omissions here include defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who currently fall outside the top 10 at their positions across both conferences.

As was the case last year, the Pro Bowl Games format will recognize the league’s top players in multiple days of unique skills competitions and then culminate in a flag football game (with the AFC and NFC squads coached by Peyton and Eli Manning) at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Sunday, Feb. 4.

Fans can vote for their favorite players by visiting any official team website or at this link at NFL.com.

7 Jaguars most deserving of 2024 Pro Bowl Games votes

Which Jaguars players have your vote?

Voting for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games officially opened Monday and can be done right here.

Last year, despite earning an AFC South title and a playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jacksonville Jaguars had zero players make the initial Pro Bowl roster. Eventually, injuries and the Super Bowl opened up enough spots that quarterback Trevor Lawrence and return specialist Jamal Agnew earned the honors.

The 2023 season should probably be different, though.

Unlike last year, the Jaguars won’t need to win five straight games to claw back above .500 and into the playoff picture. Jacksonville is rolling with an 8-3 record and plenty of deserving candidates.

In a conference with quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud, Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert all putting up big numbers, it could take a lot for Lawrence to get another nod. But these seven Jaguars players deserve to get in when the rosters are announced later this season:

Marshon Lattimore snubbed on 2024 Pro Bowl ballot

Marshon Lattimore has already appeared in four Pro Bowls, but New Orleans Saints fans can’t vote for him on the 2024 ballot:

Earning four previous Pro Bowl trips wasn’t enough for Marshon Lattimore to make this year’s ballot. New Orleans Saints fans can vote for many of their favorite players for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, but Lattimore isn’t one of them. His teammates Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor are listed on the ballot at cornerback instead.

So what gives? Lattimore is injured right now, having been placed on injured reserve for at least the next four games with a high ankle sprain, but the Saints have expressed optimism he’ll return in time to close out the season in the starting lineup. And this is a very recent development: prior to this injury, Lattimore missed just one game earlier in the season.

And he’s been playing at a very high level. Pro Football Focus play-by-play charting found that Lattimore has forced 7 incompletions with tight coverage this season on 46 targets, breaking up 6 passes thrown his way and intercepting another throw. Taylor has improved each week after moving to the slot and Adebo has been outstanding this season, but Lattimore is the top dog in the New Orleans secondary.

But teams are only represented by two players per position group on the Pro Bowl ballot, and with Lattimore injured it’s likely that Adebo and Taylor given the nod instead. It isn’t necessarily fair, but Pro Bowl voting never has been a very rational process. and restrictions like this leave good players out every year. Hopefully Lattimore can enjoy a quick and full recovery and return to remind everyone just how dominant he can be.

These Saints players are on the 2024 Pro Bowl Games ballot

Voting has opened for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. Here are the New Orleans Saints players on the ballot:

Voting has opened for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, and a number of New Orleans Saints players are on the ballot. Who will make the trip to Orlando for this season’s festivities?

Last year, the Saints were represented by linebacker Demario Davis (in his first-ever Pro Bowl appearance) and defensive end Cameron Jordan (in his eighth). Derek Carr was also in attendance, though he was repping the Las Vegas Raiders on the AFC roster.

Here are the Saints players you can vote for:
