Marshon Lattimore snubbed on 2024 Pro Bowl ballot

Marshon Lattimore has already appeared in four Pro Bowls, but New Orleans Saints fans can’t vote for him on the 2024 ballot:

Earning four previous Pro Bowl trips wasn’t enough for Marshon Lattimore to make this year’s ballot. New Orleans Saints fans can vote for many of their favorite players for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, but Lattimore isn’t one of them. His teammates Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor are listed on the ballot at cornerback instead.

So what gives? Lattimore is injured right now, having been placed on injured reserve for at least the next four games with a high ankle sprain, but the Saints have expressed optimism he’ll return in time to close out the season in the starting lineup. And this is a very recent development: prior to this injury, Lattimore missed just one game earlier in the season.

And he’s been playing at a very high level. Pro Football Focus play-by-play charting found that Lattimore has forced 7 incompletions with tight coverage this season on 46 targets, breaking up 6 passes thrown his way and intercepting another throw. Taylor has improved each week after moving to the slot and Adebo has been outstanding this season, but Lattimore is the top dog in the New Orleans secondary.

But teams are only represented by two players per position group on the Pro Bowl ballot, and with Lattimore injured it’s likely that Adebo and Taylor given the nod instead. It isn’t necessarily fair, but Pro Bowl voting never has been a very rational process. and restrictions like this leave good players out every year. Hopefully Lattimore can enjoy a quick and full recovery and return to remind everyone just how dominant he can be.

These Saints players are on the 2024 Pro Bowl Games ballot

Voting has opened for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. Here are the New Orleans Saints players on the ballot:

Voting has opened for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, and a number of New Orleans Saints players are on the ballot. Who will make the trip to Orlando for this season’s festivities?

Last year, the Saints were represented by linebacker Demario Davis (in his first-ever Pro Bowl appearance) and defensive end Cameron Jordan (in his eighth). Derek Carr was also in attendance, though he was repping the Las Vegas Raiders on the AFC roster.

Here are the Saints players you can vote for:

Terron Armstead leads NFC offensive tackles in Pro Bowl voting

Terron Armstead leads NFC offensive tackles in Pro Bowl voting

It’s about time that Terron Armstead started getting his due credit. The New Orleans Saints left tackle leads all NFC offensive tackles — on either side of the line — in Pro Bowl voting through the first two weeks, with an impressive 64,868 ballots putting him on top, per a Thursday NFL release.

That’s big enough on its own, but then you look at the other conference and realize that he’s halfway towards lapping his AFC counterpart again; Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. leads his conference with just 41,803 votes up to this point in the process. Being the best player on what’s become the league’s best offensive line has its perks.

One of those perks will be the titanic contract extension Armstead signs in the offseason, potentially with another team. But that’s something worth worrying about later on. For now, be sure to cast your vote for Armstead and his Saints teammates.

A couple of other Saints players are awful close to taking the lead at their position groups: Deonte Harris has the third-most votes among all returns specialists, while running back Alvin Kamara and defensive end Cameron Jordan are each ranked eighth among their peers.

Let’s push them over the top. Fans can vote using the hashtag #ProBowlFanVote on Twitter along with the first and last names of the player, the player’s official Twitter handle, or a hashtag including the player’s first and last name. This ends Dec. 16, and rosters will be announced live on NFL Network and ESPN Dec. 20. The 2022 Pro Bowl itself will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 6.

NFL opens 2022 Pro Bowl voting; 28 Saints players are on the ballot

The NFL opened fan voting for the 2022 Pro Bowl, with a number of New Orleans Saints players listed on the initial ballot (which you can find here). The list includes previous Pro Bowler like Cameron Jordan (six times), Alvin Kamara (four times), as well as Marshon Lattimore and Malcolm Jenkins (three times).

But it’s worth noting that this ballot is based off of recent in-game lineups, so players dealing with season-ending injuries like Jameis Winston aren’t included. Neither are some players who only recently returned to the lineup like David Onyemata. And nominal backups , like Pete Werner and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, have been left off in favor of teammates who are technically starters — such as Kaden Elliss, who plays sparingly as the team’s strongside linebacker.

This isn’t a perfect process (I’ve written about its flaws before), which is clear enough when you see that a couple of All-Pro players like Ryan Ramczyk and Demario Davis have never been voted into the Pro Bowl. Still, here are the players you can currently vote for:

2021 Pro Bowl ballot snubs Trey Hendrickson, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Emmanuel Sanders

The 2021 Pro Bowl ballot failed to list New Orleans Saints playmakers like Trey Hendrickson and Emmanuel Sanders, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

The NFL revealed its 2021 Pro Bowl ballot (the numbering convention still doesn’t really make sense, does it?), and there are plenty of familiar names for New Orleans Saints to vote for. Pro Bowl veterans like Drew Brees (13 Pro Bowl nods), Cameron Jordan (5 appearances), Alvin Kamara (3 trips in 3 years in the NFL) each made the list of nominees alongside their teammates, including special teams aces Wil Lutz, Deonte Harris, and J.T. Gray, each of whom were selected for last year’s all-star event. 11 different Saints players were voted into the 2020 game, second-most in the league (the Baltimore Ravens had 13).

But there were a couple of glaring snubs: defensive end Trey Hendrickson and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders top the list, as were nickel back C.J. Gardner-Johnson and fullback Michael Burton. It’s ridiculous that Hendrickson didn’t get a mention. He’s tied with Jason Pierre-Paul for the sixth-most sacks in the league (7.5) but technically hasn’t been a starter with Marcus Davenport back in the lineup. The same issue holds true on offense, where Sanders has taken a backseat to Tre’Quan Smith, apparently because Smith plays more frequently, though not as well.

Another problem is the antiquated roster setup that puts players with very different responsibilities in conflict with each other, like outside linebacker Demario Davis, who is competing for votes against pass rushers like Khalil Mack and Bud Dupree. The issue is compounded by the NFL treating it as if every team fields three linebackers on a majority of downs. If the system they’re using makes backup linebacker Kaden Elliss (5 snaps played) eligible for the Pro Bowl and not Gardner-Johnson (503 snaps played), well, it clearly has some bugs to work out.

Now that our gripes are out of the way: here’s which Saints players you can actually vote for to be recognized at this year’s Pro Bowl, listed in order of appearance on the ballot:

Two Florida Gators make USA TODAY Sports’ Preseason All-SEC Team

Student-athletes from 11 of the league’s 14 schools were chosen to represent either the offense, defense, or special teams.

Comprised of selections from each of the 14 college wire websites, the USA TODAY Sports Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Team was released on September 18.

Student-athletes from 11 of the league’s 14 schools were chosen to represent either the offense, defense, or special teams.

Najee Harris, DeVonta Smith, Kyle Pitts, Trey Smith, Dylan Moses, and Derek Stingley, Jr. earned this honor unanimously, appearing on every ballot.

As for the two Gators to make the cut, it is hard to argue with either selection, even though this writer cast his quarterback vote for Aggie Kellen Mond.

Stepping into the starting role after now-Arkansas Razorback Feleipe Franks suffered a season-ending injury in Lexington last September 14, Kyle Trask piloted Florida to an 8-2 record in his starts as a redshirt junior, throwing for 2,941 yards, 25 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while completing nearly 67-percent of his passes.

Listed at 6-foot-5-inches and 239 pounds and molded by Dan Mullen, one of college football’s best quarterback whisperers, another campaign like last season’s could vault the Manvel, Texas native into the first round of the 2021 National Football League Draft.

2020 Pro Bowl fan voting: 5 Saints players lead the NFC at their positions

Five New Orleans Saints players lead the 2020 Pro Bowl in voting at their positions for the NFC, including longtime punter Thomas Morstead.

Voting for the 2020 Pro Bowl is in full swing, and the New Orleans Saints are proving to be a popular pick. The NFL announced Wednesday that only two teams have garnered more total votes (the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens), and five different Saints players lead their position in fan votes for the NFC. Here is who is paving the way for New Orleans:

  • Wide receiver Michael Thomas (206,882)
  • Free safety Marcus Williams (40,403)
  • Kicker Wil Lutz (43,425)
  • Punter Thomas Morstead (37,038)
  • Kick returner Deonte Harris (35,310)

On top of that, Thomas is leading the league at wide receiver in Pro Bowl votes earned, with a healthy lead on Houston Texans star DeAndre Hopkins (162,584). The days of Thomas being overlooked and underrated on the national stage are behind us: he’s being recognized as the all-world talent Saints fans have known him to be.

It’s impressive to see three Saints special teams aces being so highly considered, including both kicking specialists and Harris, the rookie returner. Morstead is playing the best football of his long Saints career, and he’s rightfully being praised by fans around the country. You love to see it.

Remember, the Pro Bowl has reverted back to its original format with team representing the AFC and the NFC; they’re no longer using the pick-em format to build teams in the days before the game. So, for now, at least five Saints players are on the NFC Pro Bowl roster — though players and coaches  have not yet cast their own ballots.

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite Saints players by accessing the official Pro Bowl ballot at this link.
