Oklahoma Sooners continue Denton Guyer pipeline, sign cornerback Eli Bowen

The Sooners have had a lot of success recruiting Denton Guyer recently and they continue that with the signing of Eli Bowen.

[autotag]Jay Valai[/autotag] had his hands full in 2023 thanks to a lot of injuries at his position. The one steady spot was [autotag]Woodi Washington[/autotag], but the other side constantly saw guys in and out.

A lot of those young guys showed their youth but also showed promise, which just shows how important it is to recruit the right guys. Valai hopes he has another one of those guys with the signing of [autotag]Eli Bowen[/autotag].

Bowen is the younger brother of [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] but is no slouch himself. He’s a four-star cornerback who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 165 pounds.

His role in 2024 is unclear. As I mentioned before, it’s a position that suffered a lot of injuries, so he could be thrown into the fire in year one. He joins a group that includes Gentry Williams, Kani Walker, Kendel Dolby, Makari Vickers, and Jacobe Johnson. Ideally, he spends a year with [autotag]Jerry Schmidt[/autotag] getting bigger because he has a bright future in the Crimson and Cream.

Oklahoma Sooners land Rivals’ top interior offensive lineman

It was a long recruiting battle but the Sooners officially land the signature of one of the most sought offensive linemen.

The Oklahoma Sooners will have to replace five starting offensive linemen from this season’s team. [autotag]Walter Rouse[/autotag], [autotag]McKade Mettauer[/autotag], [autotag]Andrew Raym[/autotag], [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag] are gone in 2024.

That’s why it was so important Bill Bedenbaugh landed the nation’s top interior offensive linemen, according to Rivals, [autotag]Eddy Pierre-Louis[/autotag]. He did just that by earning his commitment less than a week ago. The commitment became official Wednesday when Pierre-Louis signed his letter of intent with the Sooners.

The 6-foot-3, 335-pound guard is a freak of nature. He recorded 25 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press at a camp last summer which would have been the 16th most at the NFL combine by an offensive lineman in 2023. He also ran a 12.97 100-meter dash in high school.

He could compete immediately for playing time given the losses Oklahoma has had on the offensive line. As long as he gets the details down, he’ll have a chance to make an impact. Regardless, he has a very bright future.

State of Oklahoma’s top running back officially signs with the Sooners

The state’s top running back is officially apart of the Oklahoma Sooners football team.

Running back was an up-and-down group in 2023 for the Oklahoma Sooners. But [autotag]DeMarco Murray[/autotag] proved how good he was as a recruiter with the class of 2024.

One of those guys who committed and now has signed is the state of Oklahoma’s top-ranked running back, [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag]. The Carl Albert Titan is built like a titan, standing 6 feet, 2 inches and weighing 220 pounds.

He burst on the scene after an incredible junior season in which he rushed for 2,594 yards and 39 TDs on 9.4 yards per carry. He had another fantastic season in 2023, securing Max Preps Oklahoma Prep Player of the Year. After receiving substantial interest nationally, he committed to the Sooners.

As far as his role for 2024, that is unclear. The Sooners return a great deal in the running back room. It’s unclear if new offensive coordinators [autotag]Seth Littrell[/autotag] and [autotag]Joe Jon Finley[/autotag] will use an H-back or fullback in their offense.

If they do, I can see a world where Robinson makes an immediate impact playing that [autotag]Trey Millard[/autotag], [autotag]Dimitri Flowers[/autotag] or [autotag]Jeremiah Hall[/autotag] type of role.

State of Oklahoma’s top interior offensive lineman has officially signed with the Sooners

Josh Aisosa is on board as he has signed his National Letter of Intent with the Oklahoma Sooners.

There might not be anyone in the country who is better at their job than [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag]. He’s produced countless offensive linemen that have gone on to have successful NFL careers.

He hopes to have more of that success with his 2024 recruiting class. One of those guys is three-star and the state of Oklahoma’s top interior offensive lineman, [autotag]Josh Aisosa[/autotag]. Aisosa is a 6-foot-4 and 305-pound offensive lineman who will probably play guard at Oklahoma.

He also has a wrestling background, which usually pays dividends for offensive linemen. [autotag]Creed Humphrey[/autotag] is a name that comes to mind for that.

For his role in 2024, typically Bedenbaugh likes his linemen to sit a year while developing their bodies with [autotag]Jerry Schmidt[/autotag]. That’s not to say he won’t play true freshmen, as we’ve seen. Especially with the loss of [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag], a true freshman offensive lineman could earn a role in 2024.

But most likely, Aisosa will have a developmental year before taking on a bigger role in the future.

Oklahoma Sooners officially land 6-foot-6 2024 wide receiver from Texas

The Sooners had a big wide receiver to the 2024 class in Ivan Carreon from Odessa, TX.

There might not have been a coach on staff who did a better job than [autotag]Emmett Jones[/autotag] in 2023. The wide receivers were thought to be a weakness of the team going into the season but ended the season as one of the strengths.

Jones has also done a great job on the recruiting trail. One of his commits signed his national letter of intent during the early signing period. [autotag]Ivan Carreon[/autotag] is a 6-foot-6 wide receiver from Odessa, Texas.

A four-star prospect, Carreon could fight for playing time, but with a loaded wide receiver room, it’s more likely he’ll sit back and develop during his freshman year. Oklahoma could try to bulk him up and move him to tight end, but as of right now, he’s a wide receiver. With his size, he excels at contested catches but has really good speed thanks to his long strides.

Oklahoma’s No. 1 player in 2024 officially signs with the Sooners

The Sooners got the signature of a big-time local prospect who could provide an immediate impact.

Once [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] took over as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, he and his staff made it a priority to recruit the local prospects. That push paid off. The Sooners earned the commitment and now the signature of the state’s top prospect.

[autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], who plays at Tulsa NOAH homeschool, signed his national letter of intent to be a Sooner. Okoye is a four-star prospect who is listed at 6 feet, 4 inches and 241 pounds.

Okoye has all of the physical tools to make an immediate impact at Oklahoma. You worry about the competition he played in high school, but the tools are there. He’s someone who could be a situational pass rusher in 2024 and has a very bright future.

Oklahoma Sooners offer Albany defensive line transfer

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to look for more difference makers in the transfer portal, this time with a defensive lineman from Albany.

The Oklahoma Sooners are not done trying to find players in the transfer portal to join the team for the 2024 college football season. So, far they’ve done a nice job adding several players that should make an immediate impact.

On Monday they made another offer to a big-time defensive lineman from Albany, [autotag]Anton Juncaj[/autotag]. Juncaj will have one year of eligibility remaining but his numbers don’t lie.

In 2022, he had 29 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. In 2023, he took a major jump. He finished with 55 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks.

For comparison, Jared Verse who started his career at Albany before transferring to the [autotag]Florida State Seminoles[/autotag] and is projected to be a first-round pick, had 52 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks during his final season there.

Now, Verse was a redshirt freshman whereas Juncaj is a senior. But as you can see the production is there. Juncaj is going to be highly sought. According to his social media account, he has received offers from [autotag]SEC[/autotag] schools Arkansas and Texas A&M.

The Sooners are going to have to generate a pass rush in 2024. That is no secret. They finished with 19 sacks, which was tied for 110th in the country. Juncaj had almost that many by himself. So, he would definitely bring that ability if he picks the Sooners.

Sooners DL gets huge boost for 2024 with the return of Da’Jon Terry

The Oklahoma Sooners got some more new good news as their anchor in the middle will return in 2024.

While it seems like this has been a crazy week for the Oklahoma Sooners, they did receive some more good news on Thursday. The Sooners have been waiting to see how many of their key players from the 2023 season would return and how many would leave.

They are still waiting on a few guys to make that decision, but one very big piece, no pun intended, made his announcement Thursday. [autotag]Da’Jon Terry[/autotag] announced on social media that he would be returning to the Sooners in 2024.

The 6-foot-3, 321-pound defensive tackle was arguably the Sooners best defensive lineman in 2023. He was the man who clogged up the middle of the defense on key goal-line stands, including the one in the [autotag]Red River Rivalry[/autotag].

His numbers aren’t eye-popping. He finished with 17 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. But unless you are a superstar like Aaron Donald, for example, your numbers at that position usually aren’t off the charts. That position is key for clogging up the middle and holding blocks so the linebackers can fly around and make plays.

That’s what he did all season, and you need that big of a body when you head to the [autotag]SEC[/autotag]. Oklahoma is going to need more of those kinds of players before next season. Something they are trying to do in the portal.

But with the losses of [autotag]Isaiah Coe[/autotag] and [autotag]Jordan Kelley[/autotag], the Sooners needed Terry to come back. If so, they could only lose two key players at defensive tackle going into 2024.

Way too early 2024 schedule prediction for the Oklahoma Sooners

It’s never too early to take a look at how the Oklahoma Sooners could finish in the 2024 season.

We’ve known for a while who the Oklahoma Sooners would face in their first season in the [autotag]SEC[/autotag]. Now we know when they will face those teams, and, boy, is it going to be tough.

Just to recap, the Sooners will face the Tennessee Volunteers, Auburn Tigers, Texas Longhorns, South Carolina Gamecocks, Ole Miss Rebels, Missouri Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers in conference play. They will get two bye weeks next year and will have a nonconference at the end of the season.

In my opinion, Oklahoma needs to go 8-4 or 9-3. Anything worse is a bad season. Anything better is icing on the cake. I know fans don’t want to hear that because they are used to Oklahoma dominating its conference, but that’s a realistic expectation based on where the program is today.

So, let’s take a look at how I think the season will go next year as we sit here today.

5 takeaways from the Oklahoma Sooners 2024 schedule
