NFL Schedule rumors: Eagles vs. Giants could be the pick for Amazon’s Black Friday game

Eagles vs. Giants could be the pick for the Black Friday game on Amazon Prime as 2023 NFL Schedule rumors start to heat up

The Eagles vs. Giants is one of the NFL’s most heated rivalries, and the league could look for the NFC East to headline the first-ever Black Friday game on Amazon Prime.

Peter King of Football Morning In America reports that a Jalen Hurts-Daniel Jones matchup is the leader in the clubhouse.

I think, with the schedule due to be announced the second week of May—in other words, next week—this is the column, maybe nine or 10 days out, when I usually have a good feeling about some of the tentpole games. This year, I have no gut feeling about any of them, except maybe the Black Friday game. The first game ever on Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving is a very big deal for Amazon on the biggest shopping day of the year. I think the leader in the clubhouse for that game is Eagles-Giants. Absolutely not set in stone, though. [NBC]

For fans, the Midnight start would kick off your holiday shopping and then feast on leftovers as Sean Desai’s revamped defense feasts on Daniel Jones and the new-look Giants.

The NFL is targeting May 11 for schedule release

Schedule release day is coming — and a reminder of Washington’s opponents for 2023.

After the NFL draft, the next most important date on the NFL calendar is schedule release day.

Generally held sometime around the second week of May, Adam Schefter of ESPN has nailed down a likely date: Thursday, May 11.

We’ve known who the Washington Commanders will play since the 2022 season ended. The schedule release day tells us when Washington plays each opponent, the times, which games are night games and plan accordingly for the fall.

As with everything in the NFL, it’s an event. It’s another prime-time show that has fans excited about potential matchups in the fall. And it’s also another step closer to training camp.

We’ll have more on Washington’s 2023 schedule once it’s released, but let’s take another look at who the Commanders play in 2023:

Home:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Chicago Bears

Away:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • New York Jets
  • New England Patriots
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Denver Broncos

When will Cincinnati Bengals 2023 schedule be released?

When will the NFL reveal the Bengals’ schedule?

When can fans expect to see the official 2023 NFL schedule for the Cincinnati Bengals?

Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that the NFL is targeting May 11 to release the 2023 schedule.

Schefter said the Aaron Rodgers trade and Lamar Jackson signing were pushing it back, but now that those are both done, they can lock it in.

Mike North, the NFL vice president of broadcasting, has said he expects the Cincinnati Bengals will be close to maxing out their primetime games this season, citing Joe Burrow as a big reason why.

Some opponents the Bengals will play this season include the Bills, 49ers, Chiefs and Jaguars along with the AFC North schedule.

NFL eyeing May 11 for 2023 schedule release

The schedule is coming soon.

The NFL is targeting Thursday, May 11  as the date to release the 2023 NFL schedule, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The NFL continues to try and finalize the schedule and, as Schefter notes, that should be easier now that Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson are now locked in with their new teams.

The addition of Rodgers assures the Jets should get plenty of national exposure this season, something they have not had a lot of in recent years. New York had just one national game in 2022 which was their required appearance on a Thursday, a Week 16 encounter against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

2023 should bring a lot more primetime fun for Rodgers and the Jets and plenty of 4:25 games on top of that.

Here’s a quick rundown of the Jets’ opponents in 2023.

Home Opponents

Buffalo Bills
Miami Dolphins
New England Patriots
Kansas City Chiefs
Los Angeles Chargers
Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Commanders
Houston Texans
Atlanta Falcons

Away Opponents

Buffalo Bills
Miami Dolphins
New England Patriots
Denver Broncos
Las Vegas Raiders
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants
Cleveland Browns

Projected win totals for the Bills and their opponents in 2023

Projected win totals for the #Bills and their opponents in 2023:

Oddsmakers have started to dish the over/under odds on win totals for the upcoming NFL season. The Buffalo Bills are put in an interesting spot.

Heading into last season, Buffalo had an over/under of 11.5. That figure from May 2022 had the Bills in a three-way tie (Packers, Bucs) for the highest win total in the NFL.

Courtesy of the future odds at Tipico Sportsbook, we can now compare that to Buffalo’s over/under for 2023.

There is less Bill-eving going on.

The Bills’ over/under has dropped to 10.5 despite winning 13 games in 2022… and let’s not forget, that number of 11.5 was put in place when it was assumed Buffalo would be playing 17 games. They did not, as their contest against the Cincinnati Bengals was called off.

So the Bills surpassed a higher win total, all while playing one less game, and still dropped? That’s a plot twist.

And now for comparison’s sake, here’s the full list of over/under win totals for each team the Bills face in 2023:

Joe Burrow’s popularity big factor in Bengals’ prime-time games again

Joe Burrow is a big part of the equation the league considers when crafting the schedule.

The Cincinnati Bengals seem to be looking at being slotted into the maximum amount of prime-time games again this coming season, according to Geoff Hobson from the Bengals’ official website.

Hobson talked to Mike North, the NFL’s vice president for broadcasting, planning and scheduling who said that Cincinnati is a very compelling team, and Joe Burrow is a big reason why.

The league uses things like jersey sales, followers on Instagram and social media posts to determine the most popular teams according to the fans and Burrow is a big part of getting the Bengals high on those lists.

Here’s a quote from North on Burrow:

“Fans love him. Kids love him. We’re always trying to skew younger and he’s a popular guy,” North said. “We try to find out who our fans are most interested in and then reward them by putting those teams in the biggest television windows. That’s where the Bengals have been the last couple of years and that’s where we expect them to be the next couple.”

Burrow and Patrick Mahomes are currently probable favorites to win 2023 NFL MVP, matching which teams are likely to be playing the most prime-time games.

After the Bengals’ two straight trips to the AFC Championship to play the Chiefs, a matchup that has turned into somewhat of a heavyweight rivalry, they have earned the attention and the prime-time spots on the schedule.

First look at the 2023 NFL Schedule of Opponents

The schedule of opponents are an early indication of which teams appear in line for an easy or tough slate of games for 2023.

The NFL already knows which teams are meeting each year, but the order is not published until early May because everything is a big deal when the NFL can make some sponsorship coin from rolling it out on the NFL channel. The Huddle will have all the same schedule strength analysis once that is available in May, but for now, there are some diehard fantasy leaguers and dynasty team owners that want a preliminary view of the NFL schedule.

Once the order is published, there’s plenty to study regarding who has a soft opening stretch, who has a tough slate during the fantasy playoffs, and the like. And of course, which team has that Week 14 bye that impacts large contests.

Let’s start with the schedule of opponents with the divisional matchups removed since they are a part of every season.

Just for an added consideration, I applied what defenses allowed for passing and rushing last year against the 2023 schedule of opponents (including the divisional matchups, of course). The actual schedule strength for positions will come out in May when the schedule order is released, but for now, this is just an overall look at the passing and rushing totals allowed by each defense last year applied to the 17-game non-ordered schedule for each team.

Total Fantasy Points – Pass

Only the extremes hold any real interest and this is just one of many tools you should use. The Saints, Bears, Raiders, Jaguars, and Chargers hold the top numbers. There should be new quarterbacks at the Saints and Bears, so at least they’ll face a lighter schedule. Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert look to at least hold their value from last year but both should see at least minor changes in their receivers that will also have an impact.

The Rams faced a bad schedule even beyond their injury woes last year, and the schedule doesn’t improve for 2023. Deshaun Watson opens his career with the Browns but his opponents won’t help him find the same success from a couple of years ago. Kyler Murray returns, probably, from his ACL tear and also bounces against a tougher slate. There are a number of receivers that may be changing teams, along with the influx of rookies that will impact team rosters, so again – the schedule is interesting but by no means the biggest impact to player success.

Total Fantasy Points – Rush

The rushing schedule strength is always the most accurate and the NFC North backfields catch a break this season thanks in part to matching up to the NFC South. The Lions and Vikings backfields may undergo transition but it’s a favorable season for them. The NFC South not only plays their own division, but also the AFC South for a softer set of matchups. This will be much more explored in May once the schedule order is released, but the NFC North and NFC South should remain among the lightest schedules for running backs.

The NFC East and AFC East backfields face tougher opponents than most. The Dolphins and Bills rely on committee backfields and are speculated to add more help in the offseason. Combined with the worst schedules won’t help new additions to generate fantasy points. There’s a chance that Saquon Barkley could be leaving the Giants but his replacement will be hard pressed to repeat the success of the Giants’ backfield of last season.

The most extreme values are the only ones with any real interest at this early date and before the all-important order of games is released. And while schedule analysis is only one of many measurements for a player, it is a worthwhile consideration even in this high-level look.

Eagles to host Jonathan Gannon and the Cardinals during 2023 NFL regular season

The 2023 NFL schedule just got a little more intriguing as The Philadelphia Eagles will host Jonathan Gannon’s Arizona Cardinals next season at Lincoln Financial Field

The Eagles are the NFC  Champions and since Philadelphia was a Super Bowl participant that finished in first place within the NFC East, it also earned Nick Sirianni a first-place schedule.

Such a scenario has Philadelphia facing their normal division foes twice (Dallas, Washington, New York), while also facing all four teams in the NFC West and AFC East.

They’ll also play high-profile road matchups against the Chiefs, Patriots, and Buccaneers.

One NFC west matchup just got a little more intriguing with Jonathan Gannon being named the new head coach of the Cardinals.

The NFL schedule release won’t happen until May, but we now know that Philadelphia will host Arizona at Lincoln Financial Field next season.

The intrigue stems from the fact that in 2021, there were 13 games in which a quarterback attempted at least 25 passes and completed over 80% of his throws. Five of those games came against the Eagles.

Even with Philadelphia upgrading the defensive roster in 2022, the team led the NFL in sacks, but still allowed a high completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks.

Now in 2023, we’ll get an up-close look at whether that was Gannon’s scheme or the Eagles’ talent as some had suggested.
