If the Chiefs could steal one player from the Buccaneers, who would it be?

Vita Vea and Chris Jones would just crush people. Can you even imagine?

For a moment, let’s imagine that the teams in the Super Bowl each get to choose one player off the opposing squad to add to their teams for the game. One player to shore up a weakness — or to make a strength even stronger. (For the sake of allowing us to stretch our brains, both quarterbacks are off limits here.)

Picking a player to put on the Chiefs team was a bit difficult. They don’t really need anymore firepower on offense, but picking just one player to take from the Buccaneers defense is tough because there are so many options. Considering the state of the Chiefs linebackers, Devin White or Lavonte David would be reasonable choices.

However, the Chiefs could create a defensive tackle group that would detonate the line of scrimmage and make life hell for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers’ offensive line by poaching defensive tackle Vita Vea.

Vea missed a good chunk of the season with a fractured ankle, but when he’s been on the field he’s been an extreme force to be reckoned with for the Buccaneers. The dude is pushing 350 pounds and he almost ran a sub-five second 40-yard dash — just insane for a man of that size. That athleticism and explosiveness is littered all over film from the Buccaneers.

Vea can ruin single blocks in the run game because NFL offensive linemen simply struggle to match his strength.

His bull rush is impossible to stop once he gets going, making him a rare pass rusher for a nose tackle.

Even though Vea is explosive and can create plays all by himself, he excels at creating plays for White, David, and the other Buccaneers defenders because of how he eats up blocks at the line of scrimmage.

Vea would be a clear upgrade next to Chris Jones on the interior of the Chiefs defensive line. Derrick Nnadi and Mike Pennel are solid run defenders that deserve a spot in the rotation, but neither of them possess the raw, unique level of talent that Vea does.

The Chiefs really struggled against the run during the regular season. According to Ben Baldwin of The Athletic, the Chiefs defense ranked 27th in expected points per rush (0.011) and 25th in rushing success rate (44.3%). The Chiefs were one of seven teams to give up positive numbers in terms of expected points added per rush.

So yeah, this is an area that could be a dangerous spot for the Chiefs during the Super Bowl. Over the course of a season, teams can generally get away with porous run defense, but in a one-game sample that sort of weakness can really come back to bite you. Vea would make stopping the Buccaneers running game much easier for the Chiefs.

The Buccaneers ranked 10th in terms of expected points added per rush on offense (-0.031), but just 21st in rushing success rate (39.9%). Tampa Bay’s running game has the capability to rip off chunks on the ground, but wasn’t all that consistent on a down-to-down basis.

You know what would help with that? A behemoth nose tackle that can shut down any running play you throw at him. That’s what makes this an enticing add to the Chiefs defense. This isn’t an impossible run game to slow down like the Ravens or the Titans. Adding Vea would make slowing down the Buccaneers running game a rather feasible task and one that would make the Buccaneers’ offense one-dimensional.

In this scenario, there is the risk that the Buccaneers would just quit on the run game and air it out with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, and Rob Gronkowski, but at least it would make defensive playcalling a bit easier for the Chiefs.

The finesse and speed Jones can bring as a pass rusher paired with the dynamite punches that Vea packs would be insane to watch — and make winning Super Bowl 55 a little bit easier for the Chiefs.

But who would the Chiefs be losing in this imaginary scenario? The answer might be different than you expect.

If the Buccaneers could steal one player from the Chiefs, who would it be?

Travis Kelce, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and the rest of the Buccaneers offense would be unstoppable.

For a moment, let’s imagine that the teams in the Super Bowl each get to choose one player off the opposing squads to add to their teams for the game. One player to shore up a weakness — or to make a strength even stronger. (For the sake of allowing us to stretch our brains, both quarterbacks are off limits here.)

If I was running the Buccaneers, superstar tight end Travis Kelce would be making his way into the starting lineup. Sure, the Buccaneers could pair Tyrann Mathieu with Antoine Winfield Jr. to give them an elite, versatile pair of safeties or they could add Chris Jones to their rugged defensive line, but putting Kelce in that offense would make life unbelievably easy for Tom Brady in his quest for his seventh ring.

Kelce is arguably the best receiving tight end in the history of the NFL, with five straight 1000 yard seasons. Kelce is fresh off the best season of his career, catching 105 passes for 1416 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is as complete as they come when it comes to pure receiving ability. The Buccaneers saw how damn good he is up close when he caught all eight of his targets for 82 yards against them in their Week 12 matchup.

Need a tight end to fight soft spots in the zone and pick up yards after the catch? Kelce can do that with ease.

Kelce can also get open with ease against man coverage, especially when linebackers are trying to get ahold of him.

And he can pick up yards after the catch on screens and break tackles like a running back.

The Bucs were able to get solid production out of Rob Gronkowski, who caught 45 passes for 623 yards and seven touchdowns in his return to the NFL, but he’s not the player that Kelce is right now. Pairing Kelce with slot receiver like Chris Godwin would make the middle of the field impossible to guard for defenses.

How do you account for formations where Godwin is in the slot and Kelce is attached to the offensive line with Mike Evans split out wide? Do you go dime to get more defensive backs on the field, leaving yourself to get railroaded by the Bucs offensive line? It’s an impossible equation to try and figure out.

According to Sports Info Solutions, Kelce finished first by a mile in expected points added(59.4) among all tight ends for the 2020 season with at least 25 targets. That’s almost 10 points higher than Raiders tight end Darren Waller  who finished in second place (49.5). For what it’s worth, Gronkowski finished 15th with 14.4 expected points added.

If Kelce were to face off against his Chiefs teammates in this magical scenario, he would likely shred them. As solid as the Chiefs defense has been this season, they struggled a bit against tight ends during the year. The Chiefs finished the season ranked 18th in expected points added against tight end targets (19.7).

That number might be hurt a bit by their struggles against Waller this season, who caught 12 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the Chiefs, but Kelce is a better player than Waller is. This matchup wouldn’t be all that difficult for Kelce.

Kelce and this version of Gronkowski would also create an unbeatable 12 personnel package, which Brady thrived out of this year. With one running back and two tight ends on the field, Brady threw 12 touchdowns, three interceptions, and averaged 8.7 yards per attempt.

Long story short, adding Kelce to the Buccaneers would create a passing offense that basically runs itself while playing to Brady’s strengths as a passer.

As for the Chiefs? If they had the ability to pilfer a player from Tampa Bay’s roster, it’d be hard for them to ignore a disruptive defensive lineman.

Buccaneers RB Leonard Fournette tweeted his Super Bowl appearance into existence 7 years ago

Tweet it into existence.

For everyone, it always feels great to check the goals off of your list — no matter how big or small.

Leonard Fournette is about to check a pretty big one off of his list next Sunday: Playing in the Super Bowl. Obviously, this is the pantheon for NFL players. It’s the sports’ biggest stage. Everyone wants to get there.

But, of course, some players don’t. They never get that chance. Fournette, though? He knew he would. He tweeted it seven years ago back in 2014 during his senior year of high school.

Fournette tweeted “Can’t wait til I play in that Super Bowl.” On Sunday, he’ll get that chance.

Fournette showed us the tweet himself.

Shouts to Fournette for tweeting it into existence.

Former Browns QB predicts the Steelers will ‘win it all’

SiriusXM Blitz co-host pictures the Steelers hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in 2021.

Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn broke down their predictions for conference champions and Super Bowl on their show SiriusXM Blitz on Wednesday.

The two have the Steelers and Chiefs repping the AFC but predicted opposite winners.

For Murray, it came down to Baltimore or Pittsburgh in the conference championship. “Everything you’re hearing and seeing about Ben Roethlisberger coming back from that injury, with the arm being sound… I think it’s easy to see [Pittsburgh in it].”

Murray doesn’t have the Steelers winning the AFC North but does envision Baltimore faltering in the playoffs, as they have the last two seasons — leaving Pittsburgh to battle Kansas City for the conference. Murray picked the Chiefs as victors.

While Murray speculates Kansas City in the Super Bowl, Quinn has the Steelers beating the Chiefs for a trip to Tampa.

“I think [the Steelers] might be one of the only teams that defensively has the pieces to match up with the Chiefs offense,” Quinn said. “Also, offensively, put some pressure on the Chiefs and put up some points through the air and on the ground.”

Quinn, a former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, thinks Pittsburgh’s team checks all the boxes they need to be successful.

“They get JuJu Smith-Schuster coming back healthy with a second-round pick in Chase Claypool. And Diontae Johnson, James Washington to go along with their tight ends, their run game. They really do have it all.”

“As long as Ben stays healthy and plays the way he’s capable of, this team shouldn’t have any shortcomings,” said Quinn. “I have the Pittsburgh Steelers winning it all in 2020 and beating the New Orleans Saints, unfortunately for Drew Brees and Sean Payton… It may be one of the last [Super Bowl wins] Pittsburgh has with Big Ben.”

Then Quinn asked the question all of Steelers Nation has since the pandemic surfaced, and the NFL decided to make a go of the season.

“What’s going to happen if Ben Roethlisberger gets COVID and has to miss a couple of weeks — will Mason Rudolph be able to take over and do enough at the quarterback spot?” Quinn asked, hypothetically. “There are all kinds of questions that are yet to play out [for the league].”

For those who may remember, Quinn played in the NFL for a spell. He was selected 22nd overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by Cleveland, where he appeared in 14 games over three seasons. He spent his final season with the Chiefs in 2012.

I think we can all agree, Quinn is a far better analyst/radio co-host than he was a pro football player. And not just because he picked the Steelers to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2021.

Updated 2021 Super Bowl LV odds

Looking at the updated betting odds to win the 2021 Super Bowl LV.

[jwplayer aUHDvWrm]

The 2020 NFL season kicks off in a little more than a month and all teams have their eyes on the prize — winning Super Bowl LV. Which teams stand out better than others? Which teams are on the outside looking in? Here we look at the updated 2021 Super Bowl LV betting odds and who the oddsmakers at BetMGM Sportsbook predict to have a successful season.

Are you new to the world of sports betting? A futures wager is a bet on an event much further down the road, meaning your money will be tied up (sometimes, for months) until the event concludes. However, if you bet on the right team, a large ROI is in store. For example, the New Orleans Saints at +1200 would return a profit of $1,200 for every $100 you wager should you bet on them to win Super Bowl LV and they, ultimately, go on to do just that.

The longer you wait to place a futures bet, the shorter the odds will typically become for the teams that live up to expectations. If the Saints go onto have a solid start to the season, the odds could dip closer to even money. Like everything in life, timing is everything…

Breaking down the New York Giants sports betting odds of winning Super Bowl LV.

Do the New York Giants have what it takes to win it all this year? We look at the sports betting odds around their chances of being the 2021 Super Bowl champions.

The joy of the preseason is that all fan bases – OK, almost all of them – have hope their favorite team will be holding the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year. However, there can only be one…

New York Giants Super Bowl LV odds

According to the oddsmakers at BetMGM sportsbook, the Giants Super Bowl odds are at +8000 to win the championship this season. In fractional odds, that’s 80/1. It implies the team has a 0.0123 chance of winning.

Are you new to sports betting? Future odds like these give sports bettors, both experienced and casual, the opportunity to place an early wager on the team(s) they think will be this season’s NFL champion. As the year passes, the odds will move – the better a team becomes in the eyes of the oddsmakers, the shorter the odds will become. The worse a team looks, the longer the odds will be. If a team starts to receive a large number of bets on them, sportsbooks will also start to move the lines up and down to help cover their bases, too. By placing a bet early, it gives you the opportunity to receive a better potential return on your wager assuming those odds will later become shorter and, more importantly, less profitable.

A $100 wager on the Giants at +8000 odds returns a profit of $8,000 should they go on to win the Super Bowl this year.
