Andrew Jones is a special player for the Longhorns, who has overcome so much adversity to get where he is today. In the middle of the 2018-2018 season, it was discovered that Jones had leukemia. Immediately underwent treatment at underwent successful treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston until he rejoined the team for the 2019-2020 season.
Now that Jones is back, he was a key contributor to Texas’ success this season. Only behind Matt Coleman is scoring this season, Jones was consistent for the Longhorns, shooting the ball at a high percentage all season.
Texas caught fire towards the end of the season, winning five out of their last six games. Throughout that stretch, Jones averaged 15.8 points per game, setting his career-high of 22 against West Virginia then matching it the next game against Texas Tech.
If the season had continued, Jones would have been the key to success for the Longhorns going forward. Having the hot hand, when No. 1 was feeling it offensively, Texas was going to find a way to win basketball games.
