People say that championships are decided in the second half but, leaving out the three first-half ties, the team with the lead going into halftime has a 38-12 record in the Super Bowl.

Throughout the season, the Chiefs have been a better first-half team:  Kansas City has a +7.9 point differential compared to San Francisco’s +5.4 point differential. The Chiefs have a higher first-half possession share percentage at 49.5% versus 49ers’ 49.1%. Powered by offensive eruptions, the Chiefs have jumped out to a lead in the first half in three of their last four postseason games, scoring 21, 28 and 24 in those games. Also, the Chiefs have led going into halftime in 13 games, while the 49ers have led in 11 games after the first half.

Also see:

However, where I give the 49ers the edge, is their ability to play balanced football and the Chiefs’ struggles against the ground game. Granted they did well against Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry in the AFC title game—giving up just 69 rushing yards on 19 attempts. However, they were 23rd in rushing yards allowed per game, 29th in yards per rush and the 29th-most efficient rush defense plus had the 28th ranked defensive line in adjusted line yards, according to FootballOutsiders.com.

Furthermore, I’m going to take a glass half empty approach to factoring the Chiefs’ postseason first-half leads into this handicap. While they’ve held the lead in three of their past four playoff games, the Chiefs have also fallen behind by double-digits in three of those first halves. Their defense is ranked 28th in first quarter points allowed, and the 49ers are ranked third in first quarter points scored. San Francisco’s second-ranked defense in points allowed in the second quarter (actually tied for second with the Chiefs) should help rein in the Chiefs trademark second quarter onslaught. So basically the 49ers should be able to jump out to an early lead and utilize the run game to hold that lead.

BET 49ERS (-106) ON THE FIRST HALF MONEY LINE.

Quicken Loans CMO Casey Hurbis talks ‘perfect partnership’ with actor Jason Momoa in newest Rocket Mortgage campaign

When it comes to creating a Super Bowl ad, it’s easy to throw out the generalized “Go Big or Go Home” analogy. It’s a big stage—arguably the biggest—and the amount of eyes locked onto the commercials has oftentimes been the top story from Super Bowl Sunday. (See: 2019). So, understandably, when creating a campaign, the idea of going big makes sense.

But when you’re Rocket Mortgage, the largest mortgage lender in America, and you get Jason Momoa, one of the largest actors (literally and in Hollywood star power) to be in your spot for this Sunday’s game…well, that provides an interesting update to the terminology.

The Detroit-based lending company is back in the Super Bowl ad lineup this year with a spot that ties into a new campaign called “Get Comfortable.” The concept, as Quicken Loans CMO Casey Hurbis explained to USA Today’s Ad Meter, is simple: “We want people to be as comfortable financing a home as they are living in it.”

How they accomplished creating the delivery of that message for the massive audience on Sunday is an interesting tale. It began over this past summer. The team started looking at different ideas, beginning the creative process, and one particular concept quickly rose to the top. And with that winning concept, there was one person who came to mind.

“It was with Jason!” Hurbis enthusiastically recalled, an exclamatory prompt associated with a no-brainer.

The exciting part of that revelation, however, was the feeling was mutual. Never one to shy away from the creative process, the feedback from the Hollywood star wasn’t just a yes, followed by a signature on the dotted line. Instead, the overall excitement for the campaign grew into a partnership. “He was part of the creative development with us,” Hurbis explained.

Understanding how the process goes for creating these commercials is never an exact science, but it doesn’t hurt to have someone experienced like Casey Hurbis. He’s been part of five Super Bowl campaigns, including Rocket Mortgage’s 2018 ad with Keegan Michael Key (that finished 11th in the Ad Meter Rankings that year). He took that propitious momentum and allowed it to flow into the “next” creative step for the company, and by December, production was set to shoot the 2020 Super Bowl commercial—which would be a first for the talented actor.

But would it be?

The answer to that is not as simple. Casey, who still holds true to “old school thought” as he puts it , doesn’t like to release the full spot until the night of the game. But within the tight timeframe of production and the small window to tell the story in the actual ad, came extra footage that might have never seen the light of day, cutting-room material. And in a social media-driven world that seemed like an opportunity—and it wasn’t missed.

Momoa liked the daily cuts so much, he deiced to start sending out funny tidbits on his social media. The engagement from his 14.6 million followers has grown mightily, well into the 10,000s. As Hurbis noted, “It showed just how great it’s been, this whole concept of ‘getting comfortable at home’—it’s a really fun and engaging way to show how Jason can be, away from the camera and expectations when he’s at home.”

And Jason Momoa, if the several teasers released by Rocket Mortgage are any small indication, is certainly fun at home.

“It was a hard sprint at the end,” admitted Hurbis. “But having the power of Jason and (Quicken Loan’s) brands together, just knowing the high level of content we did, we knew that having him doing his first commercial ever, we’d be able to build a lot of momentum around that. And we’re excited to bring not only the spot in the Super Bowl, but the campaign to life.”

Again, that feeling is mutual, as Jason Momoa added: “People are going to be blown away by the Super Bowl commercial. The creative was awesome, and we all worked together to make it hysterical. I got to poke fun at myself a bit, as did my wife, and we had a blast. The spot made us laugh, and it’s going to make America laugh too. I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks.”

So, in this case, it’s Go Big and Go home.

After almost two weeks of Super Bowl LIV sports betting odds being available around the huge Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers 2020 Super Bowl matchup in Miami Sunday, the sports betting lines have not changed much from when they opened following the AFC and NFC Championship games.

Sports bettors continue to watch the lines like hawks, waiting for an advantage to surface between what is anticipated a razor-thin margin between the 49ers and Chiefs. Despite some big wagers coming in recently, the spread, moneyline and point total remain largely on par with where they opened.

Super Bowl LIV: Player to record a sack?

Assessing the prop bets odds and lines for Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl 2020 player to record a sack

[jwplayer 2XgmjwzG]

Sunday’s Super Bowl will not only feature two elite offenses, but two of the league’s best pass rushes. Together, the teams combined for 93 sacks during the regular season. But which players will record a sack in Miami? Here are the top-seven odds to record a sack on Sunday.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 5 a.m. ET.

Nick Bosa (-134)

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is the favorite to record a sack and it’s not hard to see why. In his last 12 games (including the postseason), he’s recorded eight sacks to go along with 19 quarterback hits. However, stay away from this bet as the odds just don’t provide enough value.

Special sports betting line for the big game

Bet $1, WIN $200 (in free bets) if either team scores a touchdown during the big game February 2, 2020. Regardless of the outcome, you win with a touchdown! Bet now.

Arik Armstead (-125)

Surprisingly enough, no player on either team had more sacks in 2019 than Arik Armstead. During the regular season alone, Armstead tallied 10 sacks and added two more during the playoffs. But much like Bosa, there just isn’t enough value to bet on Armstead to record a sack in this game.

Dee Ford (-118)

When the 49ers traded for Dee Ford from the Chiefs, they were hoping to get the 2018 version of Ford who recorded 13 sacks in the regular season. Instead, they got a player who produced 6.5 sacks in 11 games as he dealt with injuries. However, due to his speed and ability to bend around the edge, he’s always a good bet to record a sack. And given that he will face his former team on Sunday, it’s not hard to imagine there is even a little more motivation there. Consider Ford a better bet to record a sack than Bosa or Armstead this week.

Frank Clark (-118)

Arguably the most talented pass-rusher on either side, Frank Clark sits at -118 to record a sack after notching eight in 14 games this season. However, he will face a 49ers’ offensive line with outstanding tackles, Clark is too risky of a bet in this game.

Also see:

Chris Jones (+110)

After sitting out the divisional round with a calf injury, Chris Jones returned to the lineup against the titans and dominated. Now that he’s had two weeks to rest his calf, he should be close to 100 percent for this contest. And given that the interior of the 49ers’ offensive line isn’t overly strong, Jones isn’t a bad bet to record a sack at +110.

DeForrest Buckner (+120)

One of the better bets for this game is DeForrest Buckner recording a sack at +120. While he only recorded 7.5 sacks this season, the mismatch inside of him against the Chiefs’ offensive line is drastic. And given all the attention Nick Bosa and Dee Ford are likely to draw, betting on Buckner to record a sack seems like a pretty safe bet.

Terrell Suggs (+150)

The player with the lowest odds to record a sack this week is Terrell Suggs, who joined the Chiefs midseason after being released by the Cardinals. Suggs recorded 6.5 sacks this season, but none so far this postseason. He is a part-time player for Kansas City as a situational pass-rusher. However, there just isn’t enough value to bet on Suggs to record a sack in the Super Bowl.

Doritos has become a stalwart in the world of Super Bowl advertising in recent years — and 2020 is no exceptioin.

The brand decided to head west with its 60-second Super Bowl spot this year, using rapper Lil Nas X and longtime actor Sam Elliott to pitch its ranch-flavored chips. In the ad, the pair meet for an old-fashioned shootout in an unlikely format: A dance battle. Lil Nas X, who made waves last year with his country-rap single “Old Town Road”, ultimately comes out on top — but Elliott has some tricks up his sleeve, too.

Check out the full commercial, which will air during the third quarter of Super Bowl LIV, below.

Amazon is just two years removed from its first Ad Meter title, and it finished second with last year’s spot featuring Harrison Ford.

This year, the company is back with a 90-second spot, again centered around its virtual assistant, that wonders “what did people do before Alexa?”

In the commercial, which was released Wednesday, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are the stars that spark a journey a host of historic settings and scenes, from a medieval court to the White House under President Richard Nixon. (There is, of course, a reference to destroying tapes.)

Super Bowl LIV: 5 ways the Chiefs can win

Patrick Mahomes is only one weapon for the Chiefs as they look to win Super Bowl LIV.

Super Bowl LIV will see the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, (FL). The AFC West champions are explosive and have numerous ways to beat you … badly. Here are some of them:

5. Butker is a kicking machine

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Harrison Butker has proven himself to be a major asset for Kansas City. He led the NFL with 147 points and was accurate, too, nailing 34-of-38 field goals with three of the misses coming from outside of 50 yards. Andy Reid has to love being able to turn to such a dependable kicker. On kickoffs, 60 of 98 went for touchbacks.

Super Bowl LIV: 5 ways the Niners can win

The Niners’ defense and running game are two edges it has going into Super Bowl LIV.

Super Bowl LIV will see the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, (FL). The NFC West champions come in on quite the roll and have numerous ways to earn the ring. Here are some of them:

5. Running game will dominate

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Niners have rushed for 471 yards in the postseason. If San Francisco can get stick to its running game, Kansas City will have problems. The Chiefs were 26th overall in rushing defense in the regular season. Every team below them failed to make the playoffs. Raheem Mostert and his fellow backs can take off, eat clock and keep Patrick Mahomes on the sidelines.

Mattress Mack is back: $1M bet on San Francisco 49ers to win 2020 Super Bowl

Sports bettor Mattress Mack places big $1M bet on San Francisco 49ers to win 2020 Super Bowl

Houston furniture salesman Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has become well-known for his huge bets on sports. He jumped in again for Super Bowl 54 with a $1 million money-line bet on the San Francisco 49ers.

According to BetMGM, the bet at the Mirage in Las Vegas was on the 49ers’ +120 money line. That means Mack wins $1.2 million with a San Francisco victory.

Mack’s huge bet might initially instill some confidence in nervous 49ers fans. However, he lost $12 million betting on the Astros to beat the Nationals in the 2019 World Series. He also bet $1 million against the Chiefs in each of Kansas City’s first two playoff games.

Mack told 95.7 The Game in San Francisco that he likes the fact the 49ers are a complete team, and said fans should worry because he’s due to win a bet after losing a few in a row.

The bet does come with a caveat though. He stands to get some business for his Houston-based furniture store if San Francisco wins.
