Houston also turned the ball over 23 times, although it outrebounded Kent State 56-33. Against the spread

HOUSTON -24.5 (-112) is the new No. 1 team in the nation, and it will handle itself much better than last time out against Kent State.

It actually showed a lot of grit and determination in the win against the Golden Flashes despite shooting poorly and turning the ball over frequently. It won’t face nearly as much resistance from the MEAC’s Spartans, who rank 273rd in the nation in 3-pointer defense at just 35.8%. Norfolk State is also allowing 67.7 PPG.

Over/Under

UNDER 125.5 (-110) is the lean, although play it lightly.

Houston has the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation during the early going, yielding just 47.3 PPG. It is also the top team in terms of defensive field-goal percentage at 29.1%, while ranking No. 2 with just 20.0% allowed from behind the 3-point line. The Under is 5-1 to start the season for Houston. Norfolk State won’t be able to generate much in the way of offense and should not get out of the 40s.

Qatar became the fastest host nation to be eliminated in World Cup history, dropping its first 2 matches. The hosts fell 2-0 to Ecuador in the opening match of the tournament, and was crushed 3-1 by Senegal last time out.

The Maroon managed 8 total shots, including 3 shots on goal, and the overall effort was better against Senegal, but the result was the same.

Netherlands (-490) will cost nearly 5 times the potential return, and that’s way too expensive. The Dutch have plenty to play for, looking for the top spot in Group A.

The Qataris are simply playing for pride. Even if it stunned with a win here, it cannot advance to the Round of 16.

Still, AVOID as this is just too expensive, no matter how much of a sure thing this might be.

Instead, consider NETHERLANDS -2 (+150) for a full unit, while rolling the dice on NETHERLANDS -3 (+350) for a small-unit play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 2.5 (-175) is a little on the expensive side, but it is worth playing lightly.

Netherlands will have its foot on the gas, pressing for goal differential to break a tie with Ecuador at the top of the table. Senegal is still very much in play for the top spot, too, should it upend Ecuador, so a win is necessary for the Dutch.

Playing OVER 3.5 (+140) at plus-money is worth a look, too, as an alternative total.

USA F Gio Reyna: ANYTIME GOAL (+320)

The Americans really haven’t been able to get Gio Reyna involved much. The Dortmund player is among the most talented for the USMNT attack.

He didn’t make an appearance in the opener against Wales and subbed on late against England. Coach Gregg Berhalter has been getting heat for not giving Reyna, who seemed to claim he’s 100% and healthy, more time.

Nonetheless, USA is in a win-or-go-home situation, and Reyna is among the best strikers and creators this team has. He should get minutes and opportunity Tuesday. He has 0.49 goals scored per 90 minutes this season for Dortmund, so this appears to be good value if he can get the minutes.

USA F Christian Pulisic: 1ST GOALSCORER (+550)

F Christian Pulisic will likely be in this game the full 90 minutes, so there’s no real concern that he won’t get the start. Pulisic is the most dangerous attacker for the better offense, and at +550, he has good value to be the 1st player to score in this game.

Pulisic assisted on the US’s lone goal in this tourney and should have the ball at his feet often. He is the headlining attacking player for the USMNT and should have ample opportunity.

The USA should go all gas and no breaks, and it has the talent to do so. Players like M Gio Reyna have yet to play more than 45 minutes in a game and should be set to have a high level of involvement.

If the USA can create chances like it did vs. England, it will win Tuesday and move on to the Round of 16.

Iran only scored on Wales because Iran had a man advantage after Wales GK Wayne Hennessey received a red card in the 86th minute and had to be replaced.

USA looked good against the high-level competition of England, while Iran struggled to defend the quick-paced English side. Iran was even out-possessed 62% to 38% against Wales.

USA has the talent to dominate this match, and it should come out on top with everything at stake.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN UNDER 2.5 (-170).

I don’t love the value, but it is the better side.

Iran didn’t score in 86 minutes vs. Wales until it had the man advantage thanks to the red card to the Welsh goalkeeper. Against England, Iran didn’t score until the game was far out of contention.

USA scored once on Wales and failed to find the back of the net against England despite getting 10 shots. USA’s finishing hasn’t been there, and it doesn’t appear to have a strong 9 in this tournament.

England has looked like the group’s best team, but did struggle against USA in their 2nd match with 2 fewer shots in the 0-0 draw. England beat Iran 6-2 in their World Cup opener with F Bukayo Saka scoring twice. They are flush with top EPL talent.

As for Wales, F Gareth Bale is the renown leader, but he is aging and has struggled. Nice F Aaron Ramsey is the vice captain and plays an important role as well. They allowed 21 shots to Iran and lost 2-0 after drawing USA 1-1 with a Bale penalty-kick goal evening that battle.

There’s just no value here. Wales hasn’t shown enough to even consider a draw. It scored a penalty kick in 1 game and allowed 2 and 21 shots to an inferior side in another.

England cannot quite take their foot off the gas, especially considering they should want the No. 1 spot in the group. They will more than likely come out on top, but at (-220), there’s not much value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (+100).

England scored 6 against Iran and had 8 shots and 3 shots on target against a solid USA backline that has quick wing backs. Wales isn’t as deep and should be exhausted.

England will have better finishing than Iran and should net at least 3 if they can get an equal 21 shots. Players like Saka and F Raheem Sterling will be too much for Wales to handle, as they were Iran.

Wales has a few quality forwards in F Daniel James as well, and when England went up big on Iran, they didn’t keep the pressure on. That could repeat itself against Wales.

2022 Hero World Challenge odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2022 Hero World Challenge, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

Though no FedExCup points will be awarded this week, the 2022 Hero World Challenge still features a loaded field and a total purse of $3.5 million for the 20 participants teeing it up in the Bahamas. The event will be played for the 7th times at Albany Golf Course.

Below, we look at the 2022 Hero World Challenge odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

The limited-field event is hosted by Tiger Woods, who was supposed to be playing for the 1st time since the Open Championship in July but had to withdraw due to a foot injury. The 20-player field is led by favorite Jon Rahm, who is the No. 1 player in this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Scottie Scheffler is No. 4 in the rankings, the next-highest player in the field after Rahm, and he has the 2nd-best odds to win this week.

Albany Golf Course is a par 72 playing at 7,414 yards, so length off the tee is  a factor. There are plenty of scoring opportunities with 5 par 5s on the card. Viktor Hovland won it last year at 18-under par, and he’ll be in the field trying to defend his title.

Hero World Challenge – Expert picks

Jon Rahm (+500)

Rahm is the favorite to win, but I still think he’s worth a bet at +500. In 2 starts here, he’s won the tournament once and finished 2nd the other time. He also just won the DP World Tour Championship in his last start, so he comes into the week red hot. He’s a perfect fit for this course with his length and ball striking into the greens.

Tony Finau (+1000)

You could argue that no one is playing better than Finau right now following his win at the Houston Open, his 3rd victory in his last 7 starts. He seems to have taken his game to another level and has become phenomenal on the greens, which has done wonders for his play as a whole.

Justin Thomas (+1200)

Thomas has teed it up here in each of the last 4 years, never finishing worse than 12th. He’s gotten progressively better with each year, too, tying for 5th in his last 2 starts at the Hero World Challenge. This is only his 2nd start of the season but he’s a good fit here, especially if the winds pick up; he’s someone who can flight the ball low and still keep it in the fairway.

Hero World Challenge picks – Contenders

Cameron Young (+2000)

Young is still in search of his first PGA Tour victory and this is the type of event he could very easily win. It’s a limited field, but is filled with superstars – and Young tends to play his best when facing the toughest competition. His length off the tee will give him an advantage, and it’s not as if missing the fairways will be a huge penalty with the absence of thick rough lurking.

Collin Morikawa (+2000)

Morikawa isn’t going to hit it as long as some of the other players in the field, but he wins with iron play and close approaches. With smaller greens at Albany Golf Course, he’ll have plenty of birdie looks and hopefully his putter heats up.
