CONCACAF Gold Cup: Mexico vs. Qatar odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Mexico vs. Qatar odds and lines, with soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In the final group stage matchday for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexico battles Qatar. Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium is set for 9 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we preview BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Mexico vs. Qatar odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Mexico lost to the United States 3-0 in the Nations League semifinal on June 15. Since then, it has played better, beating Panama 1-0 in the 3d-place game then taking down Honduras 4-0 and Haiti 3-1 in the 1st two group stage matches. Mexico ended with 32 shots on Haiti and 17 on Honduras.

Qatar, the country which hosted the World Cup in 2022, lost to Haiti 2-1 on June 25, the first matchday. It then drew Honduras 1-1 on June 29, a game in which both teams ended with 10 men. Qatar was outshot in both matches which doesn’t bode well in its match with the top Group B side. Qatar ranks 58th in the world rankings while Mexico sits 14th.

Mexico vs. Qatar picks and predictions

Prediction

Mexico 4, Qatar 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Mexico dominated both Honduras and Haiti, sides that Qatar either struggled with or lost to. Despite that, Mexico doesn’t necessarily have to win this game to win the group, so it might not put its best foot forward. Nonetheless, pass on the strong favorite at (-300) and also avoid playing either big-payout plus-money value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+115).

Mexico has been on a tear offensively. It scored 4 goals against Honduras and then 3 against Haiti. It should have similar success against a Qatar side that allowed 3 goals through 2 matches. Haiti had 15 shots on Qatar, and Mexico dominated Haiti.

Qatar has scored in both games as well, so while it has been dominated, it has at least had enough opportunities to put something on the scoreboard. It has scored in 7 of 8 games so far in 2023.

Put together Mexico’s dominance and Qatar’s ability to get a goal, and take the OVER 3.5 (+115).

2022 World Cup: Netherlands vs. Qatar odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Netherlands vs. Qatar odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group A group stage match, Netherlands (1 win, 0 losses, 1 draw) and Qatar (0-2-0) meet Tuesday at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Kohr at 10 a.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Netherlands vs. Qatar odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Netherlands posted a 2-0 victory over Senegal to kick off Group A play, before playing to a 1-1 draw against Ecuador Friday.

In Friday’s tie, F Cody Gakpo scored a goal at 6′ for Oranje, but Ecuador F Enner Valencia leveled the match at 49′, and that was all the scoring. Ecuador actually outshot Netherlands 11-2, while posting a 5-to-1 advantage in shots on goal, while the Dutch held a slim 54.0%-to-46.0% possession advantage.

Qatar became the fastest host nation to be eliminated in World Cup history, dropping its first 2 matches. The hosts fell 2-0 to Ecuador in the opening match of the tournament, and was crushed 3-1 by Senegal last time out.

The Maroon managed 8 total shots, including 3 shots on goal, and the overall effort was better against Senegal, but the result was the same.

Prediction

Netherlands 4, Qatar 0

Moneyline (ML)

Netherlands (-490) will cost nearly 5 times the potential return, and that’s way too expensive. The Dutch have plenty to play for, looking for the top spot in Group A.

The Qataris are simply playing for pride. Even if it stunned with a win here, it cannot advance to the Round of 16.

Still, AVOID as this is just too expensive, no matter how much of a sure thing this might be.

Instead, consider NETHERLANDS -2 (+150) for a full unit, while rolling the dice on NETHERLANDS -3 (+350) for a small-unit play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 2.5 (-175) is a little on the expensive side, but it is worth playing lightly.

Netherlands will have its foot on the gas, pressing for goal differential to break a tie with Ecuador at the top of the table. Senegal is still very much in play for the top spot, too, should it upend Ecuador, so a win is necessary for the Dutch.

Playing OVER 3.5 (+140) at plus-money is worth a look, too, as an alternative total.

World Cup group stage: Qatar vs. Ecuador odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Qatar vs. Ecuador odds and lines, with World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

To commence the World Cup group stage, Qatar, the home country, will take on Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Qatar vs. Ecuador odds, and make our best World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Qatar is coming into this game with its last couple of times on the pitch having been in late Sept. It lost to Canada 2-0 and drew with Chile 2-2. It did play 5 friendlies from Oct. 13-Nov. 9 as well, winning all 5.

Qatar sits 50th in the world per FIFA’s official rankings. All of Qatar’s players are part of a club in the Qatar Stars League, most of which compete for Al-Sadd.

As for Ecuador, it sits 44th in the world. They have drawn their last 3 matches against Iraq, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Ecuador has players from an array of clubs with the most notable few players coming from LAFC and Brighton.

Expect to hear the names M Jose Cifuentes and F Moises Caicdeo called often as they should be the most impactful players for Ecuador. F Enner Valencia has the most goals (35) for the nation.

Prediction

Qatar 1, Ecuador 1

Moneyline (ML)

BET DRAW (+215).

Qatar has a lot going for them and should come out with an energy that is difficult to maintain throughout the entire tournament.

They have also won 5 straight friendlies coming into this battle, so despite those not being the most impressive wins, there is some comradery and success that can back betting them to Draw.

Ecuador, on the other hand, had drawn 3 straight friendlies and have drawn 7 of their 10 matches this season despite taking on teams like Argentina and Paraguay, showing the variance of teams that have competed against.

Back the Draw, especially at this value.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS.

If anything I would lean to the alternate Under 1.5 at +145.

Ecuador’s last 6 games have gone Under 1.5, and they don’t necessarily have an attack good enough to dominate. They have not scored multiple goals in any of their 10 games this year.

Qatar hasn’t faced a team as good as Ecuador since playing Canada, a game in which it did not score. Despite opening the international event, I wouldn’t back anything on the total.

The United States Men’s National Team enters as the favorite despite not bringing its best personnel to the tournament. USA made it to the semifinals following a 1-0 victory over Jamaica Sunday.

Prediction

USA 2, Qatar 1

Money line (ML)

BET on USA (-115) as it’s the deeper and more talented side. While D Walker Zimmerman is not with the team due to a hamstring injury, the USMNT has not been heavily impacted by his absence.

It has given up just one goal so far this tournament. While Jamaica was stronger in the back than up top, it was still a capable opponent the USMNT handled well.

Qatar isn’t at the same level as Jamaica and looked flawed in its match with El Salvador. Despite dominating offense, USA should be able to get the job done.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 2.5 (+100) as Qatar should be able to get on the board. Assuming USA still pulls it out in regular time, the Over would hit.

F Almoez Ali, who scored twice against El Salvador, has been terrific in the Gold Cup for Qatar. On the other side, Orlando City F Daryl Dike has played well.

The two teams have combined for 21 goals scored through their eight games in the tournament. As an even-money bet, the Over is the way to go as Qatar should open the game up for it to be a scoring-heavy match.

Qatar hit the Over 2.5 in three of four matches while the USA has hit it once through four games.
