Georgia football player card: LB Monty Rice

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Monty Rice finished the 2019 season as a second team All-SEC performer

Monty Rice, Linebacker (No. 32):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-1

Weight: 235 pounds

Hometown: Huntsville, Alabama

High School: James Clemens High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Monty Rice finished the 2019 season as a second team All-SEC performer. Rice racked up a team best 89 tackles last season. He helped Georgia have the top run defense in the country in 2019.

Rice will start at inside linebacker for Georgia next season. He’s a solid NFL Draft prospect and surprised some when he decided to return to Athens. Rice has only missed five games in his career.

He came to Athens as a lowly rated four-star or three-star recruit depending on the recruiting service. Rice was a big reason UGA didn’t allow a rushing touchdown last season:

Rice will lead an elite defense once again in 2020. Georgia returns key players at every level of the defense. Dan Lanning and the Bulldog defense will be the strength of the team.

UGA football player card: DB William Poole

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back William Poole redshirted last season. He came to Athens as a four-star recruit.

William Poole, defensive back (No. 31):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-0

Weight: 190 pounds

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

High School: Hapeville Charter High School

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back William Poole came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit. Poole redshirted last season (he played against Murray State, Arkansas State, and Georgia Tech).

He saw more playing time a sophomore in 2018. That season he played in eight games and secured ten total tackles.

Poole and fellow UGA defensive back Christopher Smith were teammates at Hapeville Charter. Both players will face a lot of competition at the defensive back position this upcoming season.

Georgia is stacked in the secondary. The Dawgs have Eric Stokes, DJ Daniel, Tyson Campbell, Kelee Ringo, Divaad Wilson, Mark Webb, and more at cornerback. Georgia’s defense will be elite once again next season. Dan Lanning and company already had a stifling defense in 2019. The Dawgs may be even better next year.

Poole had arguably the quote of the offseason with his Mother’s Day Tweet:

Class: Junior

Height: 5-10

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Sandersville, Georgia

High School: Washington County High School

Georgia Bulldogs running back Darius Jackson walked on to the team in 2018. He ended up redshirting that season.

Prior to coming to the University of Georgia, Jackson ran track and played football for Washington County High School. He is a strong back, who finished second in the state in weightlifting as a sophomore.

He didn’t play last season, but did participate in G-Day and spring drills. Jackson will look to gain more traction in 2020.

He’ll be competing with Kendall Milton, Zamir White, James Cook, Kenny McIntosh, and more for playing time. Jackson will need to step-up his game in order to compete in UGA’s deep, talented backfield.

UGA football player card: DB Eric Stokes

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Eric Stokes will be an important player for Dan Lanning’s defense in 2020

Eric Stokes, cornerback (No. 27):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-1

Weight: 185 pounds

Hometown: Covington, Georgia

High School: Eastside High School

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Eric Stokes will be an important player for Dan Lanning’s defense in 2020. Stokes will be the number one cornerback on the team.

Stokes finished last season as a second team All-SEC performer and has a chance to make the first team this season. He emerged during the 2018 season after being a three-star recruit who redshirted in 2017. Stokes broke out against the Missouri Tigers, where he made key pass deflections and blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.

The Eastside High School product finished 2019 with 38 tackles and 9 pass break-ups. He was a key cog in the top scoring defense in the country and should be just as disruptive next season. Bulldog fans should enjoy Stokes this season because he may be heading to the NFL afterwards.

Stokes had arguably Georgia’s best play of the 2019 season:

Georgia football player card: LB Quay Walker

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Quay Walker came to the UGA as a four-star recruit. He also played basketball for Crisp County High School.

Quay Walker, Linebacker (No. 25):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-4

Weight: 240 pounds

Hometown: Cordele, Georgia

High School: Crisp County High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Quay Walker came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit. He also played basketball for Crisp County High School. Walker recorded 23 tackles last season, including a sack.

Walker has played in all but one game throughout his career. Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff considered him one of the most improved players on the team in 2019.

Walker had one of the most entertaining commitments in recent memory:

Walker should have a decent sized role for Dan Lanning’s defense in 2020. Walker can help fill in for some of the missed snaps and production from NFL Draft pick Tae Crowder.

Walker, Trezmen Marshall, Nakobe Dean, and Nate McBride will compete for playing time at linebacker. Returning stud Monty Rice is projected to start at the other inside linebacker position.

UGA football player card: RB Prather Hudson

Georgia Bulldogs running back Prather Hudson is entering into his senior season in Athens. Hudson has 22 carries for 84 yards in his career.

Running Back Prather Hudson (No. 24):

Class: Senior

Height: 5-11

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Columbus, Georgia

High School: Brookstone High School

Georgia Bulldogs running back Prather Hudson is entering into his senior season in Athens. Hudson has 22 carries for 84 yards over his career. He’s played a lot of snaps on special teams as well, where he’s recorded seven tackles over the years.

He didn’t have to make many tackles on kickoffs with Rodrigo Blankenship consistently booming the ball beyond the back of the end zone. His special teams work may be even more important in 2020.

He’s yet to score a touchdown in his career, so bet on Kirby Smart and the offensive staff will try to help him find pay dirt at some point this upcoming season.

Hudson is in a talented running back room that features Zamir White, James Cook, and Kenny McIntosh.
