Former Ohio State safety Jantzen Dunn announces transfer destination

Former top-10 safety is heading home to Kentucky.

Former Ohio State safety Jantzen Dunn was the most recent Buckeye to enter the transfer portal and he became the first to announce his new home. The Kentucky native has decided he will go back home to the Bluegrass State and play for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Dunn was the No. 10 safety in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings and chose OSU over the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee. Dunn suffered a season-ending injury during his freshman year and was never able to get his footing thereafter. Dunn continued to battle injury during the spring and was only able to contribute sparingly on special teams play this season.

Dunn’s departure means the 2021 class has zero safeties left from that class. Jaylen Johnson entered the transfer portal shortly after the regular season ended and the highest-rated safety in Ohio State’s class, Andre Turrentine transferred to Tennesee in the spring after just one season with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State continues preparations to take on No. 1 Georgia in the CFP semi-final on December 31 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Best photos of Ohio State vs. North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic

The game wasn’t the result Ohio State fans wanted, but the colors and setting still made for some great high-resolution photos. #GoBucks

Ohio State had it all right there for the taking. The Buckeyes controlled most of the game Saturday against the North Carolina Tar Heels but couldn’t see the deal under a patented Carolina Blue late-game run and lost a close one in overtime. When the buzzer sounded, the Buckeyes were left to wonder what could have been after an 89-84 overtime loss.

It was a great effort, but one that has many lessons to take and build upon if this team wants to improve and be more dangerous going forward.

With all the action up and down the court, and with two of the best color combinations in sports (Carolina blue and scarlet and gray) mixed in the Madison Square blender, we’ve got some of the best photos as eye candy for you no matter the outcome in a scrolling gallery.

Ohio State offers 5-star 2025 Michigan quarterback

More QB news? It never ends #GoBucks

The drama for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] quarterback recruiting seems like it is on full tilt the last few days. Let’s quickly recap what has happened.

On Dec. 14, 2023 South Dakota signal-caller [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz [/autotag] flipped his pledge from [autotag]Washington[/autotag] to the Buckeyes. On Dec. 17, an Arizona five-star and the top overall prospect in the 2024 class, [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag], decommitted from the program.

With so much focus on Raiola’s decision to move on from Ohio State, the news of 2025 Michigan quarterback [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag] getting an offer went under the radar. Well, the five-star from up north should be getting our attention.

The Buckeyes join [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag],[autotag]Michigan[/autotag], [autotag]Tennessee[/autotag] and others vying to gain early interest from the 6-foot-2-inch, 200-pound rising junior. He is the top quarterback in the class, and [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] would love to steal him away from TTUN’s territory.

Ohio State loses thriller in overtime vs. North Carolina in New York

Not the end result anyone wanted, but a good one to build upon. #GoBucks

Well, that was entertaining.

Ohio State traveled to the Big Apple to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the CBS Sports Classic, and it was just that, a game that went into overtime but ended in an 89-84 loss for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State controlled most of the game as it took a lead midway through the first half, rolled out to a double-digit lead, and went into the locker room up 44-35 when Justice Suing nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. From there, Ohio State continued to keep its distance for most of the second half until North Carolina made a run with a full-court press and free throw shooting.

The Tar Heels finally tied the game at 77-77, and it looked like Ohio State had won it when freshman Brice Sensabaugh hit an off-the-dribble pull-up with two seconds left to give the Buckeyes a 79-77 lead.

Carolina was able to get a pass across halfcourt and called timeout though with 1.7 seconds left, then drew up a play to isolate Larry Nance, who sunk a turnaround shot at the buzzer to send it to overtime. From there, North Carolina seemed energized and was able to make enough plays on both ends of the court to come away the winner.

Sensabaugh led the Buckeyes with 22 points. Bruce Thorton had 17, Justice Sueing poured in 16, and Zed Key chipped in 11 to pace OSU on the offensive end.

The game was essentially lost at the free-throw line and the inability to stay poised down the stretch. The Tar Heels went to the line 27 times to just 14 for the Buckeyes. Normally a very good free throw shooting team, Ohio made just seven of its attempts and missed a couple of key ones down the stretch that would have changed the outcome. OSU also turned the ball over 16 times, far too many to expect to close out a game against a talented team like North Carolina.

With the loss, Ohio State drops to 7-3 on the year and will now prepare to host Maine on Wednesday.

Todd McShay lists three Ohio State players in his early first-round NFL mock predictions

Here’s where Todd McShay has three Buckeye stars going in the 2023 NFL draft. #GoBucks

I know, I know, you don’t want to even think about the NFL draft until we turn the page on the Ohio State football season and whatever story the Buckeyes write in the 2022 College Football Playoff.

But still, there is a slew of OSU players we get to watch do their best work at the highest level in the game, and you can bet that we’ll see more Ohio State players hear their names called when the 2023 NFL draft takes center stage in Kansas City in late April.

One of the most followed and well-respected NFL draft analysts out there is ESPN’s Todd McShay and he just dropped his latest early first-round mock NFL draft (subscription required) for the 2023 cycle. As you would expect, Ohio State is again well-represented with three stars expected to pick up the phone and receive the good news either in the green room or at another place to celebrate.

Here are the three Ohio State players McShay has projected in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft as we head toward the end of 2022.

Where Ohio State stands with the last of its top 2023 recruiting targets heading into the early signing period

Where things stand with some of Ohio State’s remaining priority targets for the 2023 class as we get closer to the early signing period.

We are just a few days away from the start of the early signing period for college football, and Ohio State still has some priority targets for the 2023 recruiting cycle that it hopes to land. As it stands, the Buckeyes have a total of 20 verbal commitments it should — barring any drama — get to put pen to paper on Wednesday, but the program is hoping that number grows by a few.

We know of three high-priority targets the Buckeyes are still working on, and here’s the latest of where each stands as we get into the eleventh hour in the high-stakes game and unpredictable nature of big-time college football recruiting.

Ohio State has the No. 7 overall class as it stands right now according to the 247Sports Team Composite rankings, and it looks like a locked-in top ten class that could vault into the top five, but there are sure to be some twists and turns the rest of the way.

Here is where things stand with the three remaining priority targets for the Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023.

Five-star QB decommits from Ohio State

This is a big hit. Where will Ohio State go from here? #GoBucks

More than ever, it’s getting harder and harder to keep a college football commitment. With name, image and likeness opportunities taking center stage, a pledge to a school is just a minor step these days in a long, arduous journey to getting that player officially signed when it’s time to push the paper in front of him.

The latest casualty of the world we live in is five-star 2024 quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 recruit in the cycle. He has decommitted from the Ohio State football program. The news was shared on social media Saturday and leaves OSU without a major building block in the class.

There were signs of a change of heart by the 6-foot-3-inches, 225-pounder from Arizona leading up to the announcement. Railoa had removed mentions of Ohio State and his commitment video from his social media pages. While usually very vocal after an OSU commitment, he was extremely quiet after the pledge of  five-star 2024 receiver Jeremiah Smith this week.

We now have to wonder where Ohio State goes from here. It will no doubt be on the prowl for a talented quarterback to take his place. Whether Ryan Day and staff turn toward the other QB that has an offer on the table, Charlotte native, Jadyn Davis, or looks elsewhere remains to be seen.

Either way, we’ll be on top of it, so stay tuned.

Marvin Harrison Jr. becomes first ever unanimous All-American receiver in Ohio State history

With the major All-American teams announced, Marvin Harrison Jr. becomes first-ever unanimous All-American receiver in Ohio State history.

He may not have won the Biletnikoff Award that goes to the best wide receiver in college football (this writer voted for him), but Marvin Harrison Jr. has the unique distinction of becoming the first unanimous All-American receiver in Ohio State history.

That might be a little shocking considering the pedigree of pass-catchers that have played for the Buckeye program. Cris Carter, David Boston, Joey Galloway, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Terry Glenn and a host of other dynamic wide receiver playmakers have run through the tunnel in Columbus, yet none ever received unanimous All-American status.

To garner unanimous All-American status, a player must appear on all of the following publications’ All-American teams in one year: The Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press, The Sporting News, American Football Coaches Association and the Football Writers Association of America. And yes, you can check them all for Harrison Jr.

So far this season without any statistics added for the postseason, Harrison Jr. has caught 72 passes for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns. He ranked No. 4 nationally in touchdown receptions and ninth in yards per game. More than that though, all you have to do is turn on the tape of games and see him make some of the most acrobatic and seemingly impossible catches on a weekly basis.

Becoming a unanimous All-American is a rare feat and Harrison Jr. becomes the 37th player in OSU history to do it. This feels like a very good time to mention he’s just a true sophomore and will return next season.

Maybe, just maybe, he can take home the Biletnikoff Award that he deserved in 2022 next year.

Ohio State football 2022 All-Americans

All told, six Ohio State football players were named All-Americans in 2022. Here’s a rundown and a reminder. #GoBucks

Despite a second-straight loss to Michigan, it was another eleven-win regular season for the Ohio State football program. The Buckeyes are off to the College Football Playoff in Atlanta with a second lease on life, and here’s to hoping they shock the world and do something truly special.

The goals of winning a Big Ten title and beating the arch-rival Wolverines are out the door, but the ultimate prize of bringing home a national championship is still in the cards if Ohio State can find a way to beat Georgia and then either Michigan or TCU in Los Angeles in the big one. None of it would have been possible without its stars playing some pretty incredible football, and there were several Buckeyes that earned All-American honors from various publications and media outlets in 2022.

In case you haven’t followed the parade of news, we’ve got a roundup for you here after all the dust has settled. Here’s a look at the six Ohio State football players that were named All-Americans in 2022.
