Eagles have a decision to make on Lane Johnson after he gets 2nd-opinion on injured ankle

After gathering a second opinion on his injured ankle, Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson will either have to rest or play through his injury

The Philadelphia Eagles have a decision to make on Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson and some of those options include rest, fighting through the pain or possibly shutting him down for some time.

Johnson left Sunday’s game at the Pittsburgh Steelers with an ankle injury after being carted off late in the second half.

Johnson had been replaced at right tackle by rookie Jack Driscoll and after the loss, Doug Pederson confirmed that his star would get a second opinion. According to Mike Garafalo, Johnson may be forced to play through the injury.

Johnson had ankle surgery in August to clean some things up, and it may be dealing with some soreness or possibly worse. Johnson missed a couple of series in last week’s win over the 49ers and confirmed that he had a cyst in his ankle that needed to be drained after the game.

Driscoll started Week 1 at Washington when Johnson did not play and could be a viable option going forward.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to start at WR For the Eagles vs. the Steelers

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to start at WR For the Eagles vs. the Steelers

The Philadelphia Eagles need to find out what they have with J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and the only way to truly find out if he has the goods is to allow the second-year wideout to get game reps.

Per Mike Kaye of NJ.com, Arcega-Whiteside will get the start on the outside at receiver against the Steelers’ aggressive defense.

The 2019 second-round pick out of Stanford missed the 49ers game with a calf injury and even after strong performances from John Hightower and Travis Fulgham, Arcega-Whiteside still has a role on this team.

“J.J. is still a part of what we’re doing,” Doug Pederson said on Wednesday morning. “In fact, he’ll be out there today, he’ll practice today and looking forward to getting him back in the offense and working with the guys.

“It’ll be day by day with him but optimistic he’ll be ready for Sunday.”

Arcega-Whiteside suffered a calf injury during pregame warmups against the Bengals and played just 18 snaps in that game, causing some concern about his future with the organization.

Sunday will go a long way towards determining his place with the organization.
