The Philadelphia Eagles rookies and veterans are in town for the start of training camp and they must first undergo an intense Covid-19 test before the acclimation can begin.

The uncertainty around training camp has been removed after the Eagles Infection Disease Emergency Response plans (IDER), was approved by the NFLPA.

The Eagles were initially among the 24 NFL teams that were still awaiting approval after being required to present the NFLPA with a detailed plan on how to proceed forward with football operations in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Doug Pederson provided an update on Alshon Jeffery ahead of his early arrival for Eagles training camp

The Eagles infused a ton of talent, speed, and athleticism into the wide receiver position but there most important asset on the outside seems to be getting healthy at the right time.

Alshon Jeffery quietly returned to Philadelphia for Eagles training camp and his arrival brought a smile to his head coach.

Doug Pederson knows the weapon he has in Jeffery and the Eagles head coach was giddy when discussing the wide receivers potential regular-season return.

“Alshon was obviously one of the guys, too, that came back early,” Pederson said. “He’s doing extremely well. Again, he’s in a really good spot. He’s going to continue to work and get himself ready. Obviously, I won’t — you know me, I don’t put timetables on players, but when he’s ready, he’s ready. He’ll be back out there on the field with us. I’m excited where he’s at, and even though yeah, we missed the spring and had this pandemic, he was still working and rehabbing and doing everything he could to get himself ready for the season.”

The last time Pederson addressed the media, Pederson said he expected Jeffery to have a vital role in the Eagles offense in 2020.

Jeffery had 43 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns last season before going on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury that threatens to have him on the PUP list to start the 2020 season.

Eagles likely to increase scrimmages in training camp to get young players more reps without preseason games

Doug Pederson says Eagles will have more team scrimmages in camp

[jwplayer SIJTC6eA]

The Philadelphia Eagles retooled their roster this offseason with the goal of getting young and faster at the skill positions.

Howie Roseman went about the business of drafting three wide receivers, a star safety, and added several big names via free agency. Now with the coronavirus pandemic altering the NFL landscape, the Eagles and all 32 NFL teams will have to adjust.

One adjustment will be the loss of all four preseason games as the league and teams work to keep players as safe as possible. Preseason games have always been valuable for rookies, undrafted free agents and veteran players looking to make a name for themselves.

With the Eagles losing 4 opportunities to get the younger guys more work, head coach Doug Pederson suggested the Birds may have more intrasquad scrimmages to get those young guys more reps.

“That’s something that, as I alluded to earlier, just coming up with creative ways, whether I do more scrimmage situations — I do a couple live practices during camp anyway,” Pederson said via transcription from NFL.com. “I’ve got to do maybe some more scrimmages and put our young players, put the guys we need answers on in those situations. I’ve got to come up with ways of having game-like situations in practice because we are missing the preseason games. It can definitely be done. We’ll be creative about it as a staff and we’ll eventually have the answers we need at the end of camp.”

The Eagles know what they have at certain integral positions, but with a bevy of undrafted free agents on the roster and the ability to now carry 16 players on the practice squad, Pederson and his staff will use every chance to evaluate talent.

Darius Slay lands on list of the 22 most important NFL players who changed jerseys this offseason

Darius Slay lands on list of the 22 most important NFL players who changed jerseys this offseason

[jwplayer lxS1qjbX]

The Philadelphia Eagles made the biggest move of the offseason, landing the disgruntled Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions without parting with a first or second-round pick.

The Eagles have searched for an All-Pro quality cornerback and Slay gives the Birds a player that can now allow Jim Schwartz to dictate gameplan and formation towards the opposing offense while placing his other defensive backs in position for success.

The Ringer recently broke down the 22 most important players who changed jerseys this season and Slay landed high on the list.

Darius Slay
Old Team: Detroit Lions
New Team: Philadelphia Eagles
The Move: Traded for third- and fifth-round picks

The Eagles have needed cornerback depth since their Super Bowl win (and before that, too, if we’re being honest), but had ignored the problem with Band-Aid solutions. Rather than shell out a king’s ransom of two first-round picks for Jacksonville’s Jalen Ramsey, the Eagles waited until they could snag Slay for cheap. Slay is one of the best cover corners in football, and while he wasn’t spectacular under Lions head coach Matt Patricia, he figures to rebound with Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who was his head coach for his rookie year in Detroit. Philly has already given Slay a contract paying him $43 million over the next three years, so the team seems confident in his ability to contribute. For Detroit, this meant the team traded away its two best defensive backs in less than a year (they dealt Quandre Diggs to Seattle for a fifth-rounder in October) and didn’t get more than a third-rounder in return. This trade is a good example of good organizations getting better and bad organizations getting worse.

Slay should be recharged by the change of surroundings and he’s spent the entire offseason being motivated by the snubs on several cornerback rankings.
The Eagles should see the best of Darius Slay this season.

Eagles DT Fletcher Cox lands at No. 73 on the NFL Top 100 Players for 2020 List

Fletcher Cox is No. 73 on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players List

In a move that will likely leave several Eagles irate, Fletcher Cox dropped almost 40 spots on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list, landing at No. 73 this year.

The Eagles only had five players make the list according to Dave Zangaro, meaning Carson Wentz and Lane Johnson will not make the list this year.

Cox was No. 28 on the list in 2019 and although his stats were down in the sack department, the Eagles star was still just as dominant. Pro Football Focus ranked Cox as the fifth-best interior lineman in 2019 and only Aaron Donald has generated more quarterback pressures than the 151 Cox has generated over the past two years.

In what was deemed a down year, Cox registered four sacks, 42 hurries, and ten additional hits quarterback and his 89.5 overall grade from PFF was the highest for a defender in the NFC East.

Eagles’ training camp to start on time after NFL, NFLPA agree to CBA issues related to Covid-19

Eagles’ training camp to start on time after NFL, NFLPA agree to CBA issues related to Covid-19

[jwplayer AwgrXIiO]

In a move that will allow all 32 NFL training camps to open and start on time, the NFL and the NFLPA have agreed to a deal on all the CBA issues related to practice, testing protocols, and other concerns amid the coronavirus.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released this statement a short time ago.

Training camps will proceed under a modified schedule that will allow players and coaches to slowly reacclimate themselves.

The agreed-upon deal will allow the Eagles and the 31 other NFL teams to carry 16-man practice squads, it also includes high-risk and general opt-outs of participation due to the pandemic and no preseason games for 2020.

How proposed $175M salary cap in 2021 would drastically impact the Eagles

How a proposed $175M salary cap in 2021 would affect the Eagles

[jwplayer TkBGRTaY]

The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl contenders in the eyes of some experts this season but 2021 could have a drastically different look due to the coronavirus pandemic and the financial fallout from it.

The NFL and NFLPA continue negotiations and one of the economic proposals on the table centers on the salary cap for 2021 and a significant reduction in salary cap space that drastically impacts the Birds.

The NFL has reportedly asked the players to accept a $175 million salary cap in 2021 to compensate for a possible severe financial dropoff for the league.

The proposed $175 million salary cap is the floor at this point and almost $23 million less than the $198.2 million salary cap for the 2020 season.

Here’s how such a reduction would impact the Eagles:

***

1. Salary cap hell

Such a move would put the Eagles in salary cap hell, with the least amount of space out of all 32 NFL teams, at almost $72 million over the limits, per Over The Cap.

The Eagles currently have $267 million committed to salaries for the 2021 season and if they roll over the current $22 million in cap space, they would still need to cut almost $72 million.

[jwplayer YQFIvaxu]

The NFL Network will trot out their annual Top-100 players for 2020 list starting this Sunday, July 26, at 8:00 PM EST.

Last season four Eagles landed on the list and three more players were deserving of the honor as well. With the players voting amongst their peers, we list seven Eagles are most likely to land on the Top-100 list for 2020:

***

1. Fletcher Cox

Stats don’t tell the whole story and Cox is a game wrecker who’ll have two new running mates this season.

Jalen Reagor named a ‘perfect weapon’ for Carson Wentz, and the Eagles player to watch in 2020

Jalen Reagor called the ‘perfect weapon’ for Carson Wentz

[jwplayer KJrPzqeR]

The Philadelphia Eagles bypassed several bigger named wide receivers in the NFL Draft to bless Carson Wentz with Jalen Reagor and the future of explosive plays between the two could catapult the Birds to another level in the NFC.

Reagor is a dynamic playmaker and according to NFL.com, the perfect weapon for Wentz and the Eagles.

Newcomer/player returning from injury to watch: Jalen Reagor, wide receiver. The Eagles have needed help at receiver for a while now, but this became particularly noticeable last season, as injuries undercut their potential at the position. When they get back both DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery — the latter of whom is still recovering from Lisfranc surgery — they should be better off, but the most exciting potential exists in Reagor, a possible home-run hitter who excels at making the difficult look easy. His quarterback situation at TCU was abysmal, meaning a pairing with Carson Wentz could prove bountiful for a guy who led all first-round receivers in contested catches made in their respective college careers with 27, per PFF.

Reagor won’t have the benefit of OTA’s or minicamps to get acquainted with Wentz, but with the NFL scrapping preseason games, he’ll have almost two-months of actual onfield time in Philadelphia with the Eagles star signal-caller to help foster some positive chemistry.

Wentz loves the deep-ball and these two could be the perfect match of fireworks and huge plays.

Eagles linemen were the 2 highest-graded offensive players in the NFC East in 2019

Brandon Brooks was the highest-graded offensive player in NFC East in 2019

[jwplayer ktoPBQyq]

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the best offensive lines in all of football but they’ll be without one of the top overall players in the NFL this season.

Brandon Brooks is not only the best guard in football, but he’s one of the top overall players in the league and the highest-graded offensive player in the NFC East last season.

It’s an amazing honor and even more of a reason why the Eagles reverted back to Jason Peters to replace Brooks instead of Matt Pryor.

Johnson, Brooks, and Peters also landed on the list of the top-10 highest-graded offensive linemen last season as well.
