This year is the first season we’ll have the 12-team playoff so we like to give you the full picture of where things stand with Ohio State and others in and around the CFP field.

Experts rank Notre Dame as we look towards the playoff

Notre Dame splits the experts this week.

[autotag]Joel Klatt[/autotag] finally has Notre Dame in his top five.

[autotag]Danny Kanell[/autotag], not so much.

Klatt has Notre Dame at number four, but Kanell has the Irish at number six.

Klatt’s top 10 is like so: Oregon, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, SMU and Alabama. He gives “almost” nods to Ole Miss, South Carolina, Boise State and Miami (FL).

Kanell’s top 12 is Oregon, Texas, Penn State, Georgia, SMU, Notre Dame, Tennesee, Ohio State, Indiana, Arizona State, Boise State and South Carolina.

Klatt does say the Irish are definitely in for the College Football Playoff.

Where’s Ohio State in latest College Football Playoff bracket? Full playoff picture after Week 13

Ohio State remained at No. 2 in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings. Here’s a playoff picture for the Buckeyes. #GoBucks

We’re now 13 weeks into the college football season and that means we have an idea of where Ohio State when it comes to the landscape of the 2024 season. The Buckeyes won a massive top-five matchup at home vs. Indiana to keep their spot at No. 2 in the latest CFP Rankings — even after the loss to now No. 1 Oregon a few weeks ago.

Ohio State debuted at that spot when the first College Football Playoff rankings were announced a couple of weeks ago, so even a loss to Michigan this weekend would seem to have OSU in good shape with getting an invite to the inaugural 12-team playoff we’re all about to witness at the end of this season.

The format is an interesting one, and since it’s the first year of all the fun, we thought we break down where Ohio State would be in the playoff bracket if it were to end before any further games are played. This is merely a projection and things will change based on results on the field.

So … here we go one more time.

Latest CFP rankings released after Week 12. Where is Ohio State?

Do you still feel good about where Ohio State is? #GoBucks

It’s Tuesday towards the tail-end of the 2024 college football season and that means the latest CFP rankings have been released after Week 12. Yes, there were some teams that lost among the top 12, so there was a bit of a shake up.

We are most concerned about where Ohio State is, and we’re happy to tell you that the Buckeyes remained at No. 2 — just like the past three rankings — just behind No. 1 Oregon. Behind the Ducks and Buckeyes and rounding out the top ten is Texas (3), Penn State (4), Indiana (5), Notre Dame (6), Alabama (7), Miami (FL) (8), Ole Miss (9), and Georgia (10). Just outside the top ten are Tennessee (11) and Boise State (12).

Here’s a look at the rest of the College Football Playoff rankings after Week 12, the third time the CFP committee has ranked teams and unveiled them.

Ohio State can probably afford to lose one more game and still make the College Football Playoff, but that leaves one of its goals off the table, and that’s winning the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes will next kick off for a top-five matchup with Indiana this weekend.

SEC analyst is high on Notre Dame chances to win the College Football Playoff

High praise for the Irish, hopefully he’s right

It’s a big odd when an SEC analyst has high praise for a Notre Dame football team, but that is exactly what happened on Thursday.

Former Alabama quarterback [autotag]Greg McElroy[/autotag] was asked by former Georgia defensive end David Pollack if the Irish had a legit chance to win the College Football Playoff, and the answer was a resounding yes.

McElroy went over some of his criteria he’s looking for in a championship contender, which includes a quarterback that has experience, a take-over-the-game defensive line, and enough good skill position players.

While he’d rather have the skill players as wide receivers, McElroy believes the pair of backs in Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price make up for the lack of explosiveness on the outside.

Also mentioned was the fact that tight end Mitchell Evans is coming on, and the young offensive line has made improvements over the course of the season. McElroy didn’t shy away from liking Notre Dame’s chances, which should give the Irish hope that they can make a run in the CFP.

What the Allstate Playoff Predictor tells us about LSU’s playoff hopes

What does ESPN’s Allstate Playoff Predictor tell us about LSU’s playoff hopes?

LSU ranked No. 15 in Tuesday’s initial College Football Playoff rankings. As it stands, the Tigers are out of the field, but at No. 15, LSU is in striking distance.

Saturday’s meeting with Alabama can make or break the Tigers’ season. If LSU wins, the playoff is firmly in view. A loss and the Tigers are out of it.

Today, we’ll use the Allstate Playoff Predictor to shed some light on LSU’s hopes. ESPN’s interactive site that allows us to see how certain games impact a team’s playoff chances.

LSU enters Saturday with a 22% chance to make the playoff. Not likely, but not a long shot.

We know if LSU wins out, makes the SEC title, and wins the conference, the Tigers are in with an automatic bid. But let’s say LSU wins out in the regular season and falls short in the SEC title.

In that scenario, LSU has an 85% shot to make the CFP — a 26% chance of hosting in the first round and a 60% shot of being a visitor.

Let’s say LSU loses on Saturday but wins its final three games. At 9-3, the predictor gives LSU a 27% chance of making the field. That seems high given how strong the Big Ten is shaping up to be.

Now, let’s imagine LSU finishes 3-1 but beats Alabama. If LSU beats Alabama and loses to Florida, then takes care of business against Vandy and OU, LSU’s chances sit at 42%.

The numbers are clear. Saturday is close to a must win for LSU. A loss closes most available paths to the playoff but a win gives LSU a few ways in.

Notre Dame landed 10th in the latest College Football Rankings. Here’s a playoff picture for the Fighting Irish.

The No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been clinging to playoff hopes ever since losing to Northern Illinois in their second game of the season. So far they’ve won every other game and worked themselves back into the College Football Playoff conversation.

Improved play from quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] and a stout rushing attack from [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] and [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag], plus continued high-level play from a dominant defense, have kept the Irish in the playoff race. Now we know where they stand as the first official bracket has come out.
