247Sports names this Notre Dame freshman as an instant impact recruit

The Irish could see this freshman crack the starting lineup

Notre Dame football signed one of the best recruiting classes of the 2024 cycle, with many of them enrolling early.

One of those early enrollees is linebacker [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag], who was ranked as the No. 4 player at his position and 41st overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The California native was the second highest player the Irish signed, so the expectations are high for the 6-foot, 2-inch and 233-pound linebacker.

Adding onto those expectations is Chris Hummer of 247Sports, who named Viliamu-Asa as one of his freshman All-Impact team members. His reasoning behind the choice was simple, that “there’s very little experience returning to Notre Dame at linebacker outside of veteran starter Jack Kiser.

Versatility plays a big part in KVA’s selection as well, as he has the ability to play all three linebacker spots. Many of us, including myself, are extremely excited to see what the linebacker can do this fall and beyond.

Notre Dame Football: Early enrollee earns fifth star

Well earned although they should have given him it a while ago…

One of the prized jewels of the 2024 recruiting class for Notre Dame has earned a fifth star in his recruiting rankings according to Rivals.

Linebacker [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag], who enrolled at Notre Dame as a part of the 2024 recruiting class earlier this month, was given the fifth star by Rivals on Monday.

From the Rivals writeup:

For a long time, the people at powerhouse Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco said Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa could end up as the best defensive player in program history, and the Notre Dame signee has proven it time and again.

He’s mature and serious about what he wants to accomplish on and off the field. Viliamu-Asa goes out and delivers every single time. Whether he’s blitzing, dropping in coverage or running sideline-to-sideline, the five-star linebacker can do it all. He could be special in South Bend.

That’s great that he earned the fifth star I suppose. When we look back at ratings in the years to come we can say Notre Dame landed a five-star talent in the recruiting class, and he finished 19th overall in the Rivals ratings.

Getting excited about this is a bit weird to me, though. If you’ve been paying attention, you’re well aware Viliamu-Asa is a mega-talented recruit regardless of whether he had a fifth star by his name.

Notre Dame Football: Cold Weather Appears to be Nothing for New Irish Linebacker

How are you staying warm this weekend?

If you’re in the Midwest this week or if you watched the Chiefs vs. Dolphins NFL playoff game on Saturday night, you don’t need a reminder that it’s frigid in region.  Temperatures dipped below 0 Saturday night and in large sections aren’t supposed to be back above 0 for a few days.

That doesn’t seem to bother at least one member of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, though.

Kyngston Viliamu-Asa spent Saturday night hanging out with a couple of his new teammates and journeyed about Eddy Street at one point.  That’s when fellow-incoming freshman Cam Williams posted a picture to Instagram of Viliamu-Asa with Kedren Young.

In it Viliamu-Asa clearly isn’t impacted by the weather as he’s wearing shorts and slides.

Meanwhile I’m here dressing myself like the little brother in A Christmas Story just to take my dog out to go to the bathroom.

Viliamu-Asa’s hometown of Bellflower, California this week calls for a high of 71-degrees with an overnight low all the way down to just…46.

247Sports believes two Notre Dame players at All-American game will have immediate impacts

These two future Irish stars could have impacts early

It’s a rite of passage for some elite high school football players to compete one last time on a national stage in an all-star game. Notre Dame has a few players competing in those this cycle.

Two of them, linebacker [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Kedren Young[/autotag], have impressed scouts enough for them to believe they will have immediate impacts. 247Sports chose 13 players who should make a splash right away, and the site selected two Irish signees.

Viliamu-Asa “erased any doubts of athletic limitations as he displayed outstanding play speed and the ability to quickly key and diagnose,” wrote Cooper Petagna.

As for Young, Gabe Brooks described him as “one of the most ready-made running backs in the outgoing class.”

Significant credit has to go to head coach Marcus Freeman. During his tenure, the Irish have seen a massive uptick in recruiting talent to South Bend. Viliamu-Asa and Young are just two of the many players who will start their Notre Dame career with high expectations.

Notre Dame commit named Preseason MaxPreps First Team All-American

All eyes will be on him when he comes to the Irish.

[autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag] is getting rave reviews from everywhere. The California-based four-star linebacker, who recently picked Notre Dame over USC and Ohio State, very well could follow in the footsteps of recent Irish linebacker All-Americans like [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylon Smith[/autotag]. Until then, we will see how well he continues to develop at the prep level. MaxPreps thinks that will go well as he was named to its Preseason All-American First Team.

Here’s what MaxPreps has to say about the 2024 commit and his relevance to St. John Bosco in Bellflower:

“Played a huge role on defense for the 2022 MaxPreps National Champs racking up 111 tackles.”

Racking up that total in any season for the Irish would be nice. No Irish player has approached that number since [autotag]Te’von Coney[/autotag] had 116 and 123 tackles respectively in 2017 and 2018. That alone should give Irish fans reason to be excited about his arrival in a year’s time. And the fact that he chose the Irish over two other college football powerhouses makes it all the sweeter.

Notre Dame football excitement: Blue Chip LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Is Irish

This is a huge get for the Irish. HUGE

Notre Dame will be riding high entering Fall camp later this week fresh off the commitment of 4 star LB & 89th player overall in the 2024 class from California St. John Bosco [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag]. The timing couldn’t be better. Irish fans are notoriously fickle when it comes to riding recruiting waves of emotion, myself included, and having this uptick leading into August provides a terrific spark.

Notre Dame currently resides at number 7 in the 247 composite team rankings. How might the Irish’s record this year impact where the team ends up in recruiting when all is said and done? A great showing in the “marque 3” is bound to help with recruiting, it’s just a matter of how much.

I see 3 particular ways that the Viliamu-Asa signing is huge for Notre Dame. Let’s examine them in more detail.

USC analysts react to KVA choice, Pac-12 media day, preseason All-Pac-12 teams

.@Tim_Prangley and @USCJ32 react to KVA’s Notre Dame move, #Pac12 media day, the preseason All-Pac-12 teams, and much more.

The decision of Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa to go to Notre Dame was a blow for USC. There’s no question about that. Did USC fail to do anything it reasonably could have done to make KVA reconsider his decision, or was this simply a situation in which a young man felt very deeply about going to one school? That’s a question worth considering.

Pac-12 media day was on Friday. Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams, and Mason Cobb all represented USC in Las Vegas. Media day occurred after the 2023 preseason All-Pac-12 teams were released earlier in the week. The preseason media poll was also unveiled before Pac-12 media day. USC was picked by media voters to win the conference championship this season, with Washington in second and Utah a very close third.

These and other stories invite extensive analysis and commentary. Tim Prangley and guest co-host USC J explore these topics and more on the latest edition of Trojan Conquest Live.

Scout’s view: Notre Dame’s newest commitment, linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

The Irish have their next impact ‘backer

In a massive recruiting win, [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] landed elite 2024 California linebacker [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 230 pound ‘backer selected the Irish over Ohio State and USC. This recruitment was seen as a must have by many and head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff were able to convince the nations 8th best linebacker and 102nd overall player according to the 247Sports composite to the Irish class.

After getting a chance to watch highlights from Viliamu-Asa’s junior season, it’s very easy to see why he was a priority recruit for the Irish. Find out below what to expect from the newest member of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class.

Twitter reaction to Notre Dame beating out Ohio State and USC for big-time linebacker

HUGE get for Notre Dame!

Notre Dame football hasn’t had the best summer on the recruiting front.  Despite landing some very talented commitments to date, this summer has seen some of their highest rated targets choose other programs – especially on the defensive side of the ball.

You could say the luck of the Irish changed a bit Sunday as one of the nation’s top linebackers, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, choose Notre Dame over the likes of USC and Ohio State.

Viliamu-Asa becomes Notre Dame’s 22nd commitment in the 2024 recruiting class and according to the 247Sports composite rankings is their highest rated defender.

Here is how Notre Dame football fans and others reacted to the much-needed good recruiting news on Twitter:

Notre Dame lands 2024 linebacker recruit Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

Solid get for the Irish.

Notre Dame just beat out two real blue bloods for the services of 2024 four-star linebacker recruit [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag]. On July 3, the Bellflower, California native announced that the Irish had made his final cut along with USC and Ohio State. After nearly three weeks of additional waiting, the recruiting efforts of [autotag]Al Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Max Bullough[/autotag] have paid off. Viliamu-Asa made the announcement on social media:

Here’s how the actual announcement looked from his home:

Viliamu-Asa is the third linebacker commit of the Irish’s 2024 class. The others, [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag] and [autotag]Bodie Kahoun[/autotag], are three-star commits, which makes Vilamu-Asa the biggest get at the position in the 2024 class so far. Greg Biggins of 247Sports had this to say about him in November:

“One of the most versatile linebackers in the country. He’s an inside ‘backer but a rare every down player who can move around and play multiple spots in a defense. He can stuff the run, blitz off the edge and is very smooth in coverage for a 6-foot-3, 230 pound athlete. He was the state’s top prospect as a freshman but tore his ACL in the final game of the season and missed his entire sophomore year. He’s a huge hitter and has a game built for pads but we saw him during 7v7 play lock up receivers and tight ends in coverage. He’s a smart kid as well, very instinctive and plays with a non-stop motor. He’s a tough kid and has a nice edge in his game.”

Here’s hoping that all is on display with the Irish.
