Clemson vs Boston College Game Preview

Why Clemson Will Win

Oh, so NOW everyone is realizing that DJ Uiagalelei is a good quarterback.

He was plagued by dropped passes in the opener against Georgia Tech and wasn’t razor-sharp against Louisiana Tech, but he’s being careful with his throws – just one pick so far – and he’s accurate enough to keep the offense moving.

Clemson leads the ACC and is ninth in the nation in third down conversion percentage. Boston College isn’t.

The Eagles have no running game whatsoever, they’re not connecting on their third down tries at all, and both of those come from an offensive line that’s giving up play after play behind the line.

The Clemson defensive line hasn’t quite been the killer expected, but it’s about to have a huge day.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Boston College Will Win

So what is Boston College doing right?

Just when it seemed like the season was totally lost, the passing game clicked with Phil Jurkovec completing 18-of-21 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns in the 34-33 win over Louisville.

The parts are there to wing it all over the yard, and Jurkovec and WR Zay Flowers might actually be the best offensive players on the field, but now they need to do even more.

Clemson’s pass defense got ripped up by Sam Hartman and the Wake Forest offense, and it’s allowing way too many completions and downfield plays.

However …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Again, there’s NO running game from Boston College to worry about.

The Eagle pass rush is okay, but it won’t be that big a problem.

The BC D has forced one takeaway so far against FBS teams. the offense will give it away multiple times, and Clemson will come up with a good balance to get through this in a win-and-move-on sort of way.

Clemson vs NC State Game Preview

Why NC State Will Win

Devin Leary. Your table is ready.

The NC State quarterback pulled off the win over the Tigers last year with a brilliant 238-yard day with four touchdowns, but he has yet to get going against anyone good.

Oh sure, he took target practice against UConn and Charleston Southern, but he struggled against East Carolina and only hit the short-range throws against Texas Tech.

Clemson has an NFL defensive front, and the offense has started to put it all together, but the secondary is getting ripped.

Furman threw too easily, Louisiana Tech bombed away for over 300 yards, and Sam Hartman earned himself a job in some NFL team’s quarterback room with a 337-yard, six-touchdown day last week.

The Wolfpack defense has been every bit the wall it was expected to be. It came up with four takeaways in the 27-14 win over Texas Tech, the secondary has seven picks on the year, and the run defense is holding up well.

On the other side, the offensive line has been great in pass protection giving Leary time, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Clemson Will Win

DJ Uiagalelei is starting to ball out.

He has been much maligned for not being consistent, the offense not moving well enough, and for not being likely-star-in-waiting Cade Klubnik, but the team needed him to show up against Wake Forest and he came through large.

For all the slings and arrow, he’s hitting 64% of his passes for 1,033 yards and ten scores with just one pick – and with 169 yards and a rushing score – in four games.

Now it’s redemption time.

Leary was fantastic, the NC State defense was great, and Clemson still almost won last year even though Uiagalelei had an awful day in the 27-21 double overtime loss.

The offensive line has been good enough in pass protection, the running game has been solid, and the Clemson defensive front seven is the Clemson defensive front seven.

The secondary might be having issues, but the defensive line isn’t allowing much of anything on the ground and it’s making a slew of plays in the backfield.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Clemson defense is going to get it done in what should be lousy conditions. It’s not supposed to be too bad by game time, but it’ll definitely be wet out.

Leary will be good against the struggling Clemson secondary, but for the first time this year the running game will have to deal with a brick wall of a defensive front.

For all of Clemson’s sputters and coughs on offense, it’s not turning the ball over enough to matter.

No, the O won’t be held to 215 yards of total offense this time around. It won’t go off, but it’ll be good enough to let the defense take care of the rest.

Clemson vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Clemson Will Win

The defense has been suffocating.

Louisiana Tech kept throwing in the 48-20 loss to the Tigers, but that didn’t matter – 14 points came late when the game was well out of reach.

Star DT Bryan Bresee is back on campus after being out last week following the tragic loss of his sister, the run defense is allowing just 2.4 yards per carry, and the takeaways are flowing.

No, the Tigers haven’t faced an offense like Wake Forest will bring, but the pass rush that hasn’t needed to turn it loose is about to step up, the secondary should be able to hold up, and there’s no fear of stopping the run.

The Demon Deacons will give it a shot, but the ground attack won’t go anywhere. Fortunately for them …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Wake Forest Will Win

Sam Hartman stepped back in and rocked without skipping a beat.

He missed the opener against VMI as he worked to get past a blood clotting problem, and then hit Vanderbilt and Liberty for 625 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Demon Deacon offense will push a Clemson defense that hasn’t seen anything like this so far, but it’ll be the other side of the ball that has to step up.

Clemson’s O has put up points, but it’s been a grind to get there. There’s no appreciable downfield passing game, the running game was just okay until last week, and if it’s possible to score 124 points in three games and be underwhelming, this team has done it.

Hartman and the Demon Deacon offense has to crank up the pressure. Clemson hasn’t needed to come up with a drive that matters so far this year, but …

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

It’s Clemson vs Wake Forest. Clemson has won 13 straight in the series and 15 of the last 17. It’s going to take something amazing for Wake Forest to pull this off.

The Clemson defense is about to turn it up a few notches. As is it’s fantastic, but it hasn’t done much to get to the quarterback – that’s about to change.

The offense that found a nice balance over the last two games will pound away, it won’t turn the ball over like the Demon Deacons need – they’ve come up with seven takeaways over the last two games – and after a fun and wild first part of the game, things will settle in.

The Clemson defense will settle in.

Clemson vs Louisiana Tech Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

Sonny Cumbie’s team has been solid so far offensively.

The Bulldogs might have lost at Missouri, but the passing game came up with 336 yards and three scores. In the win over Stephen F. Austin, the ground attack hit 300 yards.

The defense might have had issues against Mizzou, but it changed up fast with a good day and four takeaways in last week’s win.

The D has to keep forcing mistakes – six takeaways so far – Clemson isn’t controlling the clock, and the downfield passing game still isn’t there. But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why Clemson Will Win

The Louisiana Tech run defense isn’t working.

Missouri did whatever it wanted to on the ground, and Stephen F. Austin averaged close to four yards per carry. There might be plays in the backfield, but the sacks aren’t there to bother the Tiger quarterbacks.

Forget about any Bulldog running yards. It might have rolled last week, but it only came up with eight net yards against Missouri – that’s more like what the O is going to be against the better teams.

After a rough day against Georgia Tech – even in a 41-10 win – Clemson wasn’t amazing against Furman, but the ground attack was great, DJ Uiagalelei hit 78% of his throws and was better down the field, and the team looked the part.

The O will be fine, the D will be great, and it’s going to be tough for Louisiana Tech’s lines to hold up.

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Clemson will be playing with a heavy heart with star DT Bryan Bresee going through the pain of losing his sister to cancer this week. Not that a tragedy like that should have any bearing on a silly game, but the entire tone of the day will be more respectful than raucous.

In the game itself, the Clemson defensive front will keep Louisiana Tech from doing much of anything right, Uiagalelei will have another strong day, and the team will keep on winning – even if it’s not always perfect.

Clemson vs Furman Game Preview

Why Furman Will Win

The Paladins got their fun out of the way in the opener with a 52-0 whacking of North Greenville. The defense got into the scoring act, the quarterbacks were sharp, and now it all has to come together fast against a Clemson team coming off a short week.

Furman has to take advantage of any and every opportunity. It starts with forcing the Tiger offense to continue to try dinking and dunking, holding up against the run is a must, and controlling the clock as much as possible would be nice.

Be patient. This Tiger defense isn’t going to allow much, but a few moments will be there. This offense is good enough to take advantage of the opportunities.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Clemson Will Win

The defense will take care of everything. Now the offense has to open it up more.

DJ Uiagalelei wasn’t sharp, but his receivers didn’t give him any semblance of help – there were too many passes that hit the targets in the hands and dropped.

The team ended up winning easily in the 41-10 opener against Georgia Tech, but the defense made sure there weren’t any issues. This is the game for Uiagalelei to silence the critics – at least for a week – or else …

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Cole Klubnik. The announcing team for the Georgia Tech game, and most of social media, couldn’t bench Uiagalelei fast enough for the superstar freshman prospect. Klubnik came in late against the backups, rolled to a quick scoring drive, and now there’s a real controversy.

Both quarterbacks will shine in this, but once again, it’ll be the Clemson defense that’s the star.

Clemson vs Georgia Tech Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

The Yellow Jackets gave the Tigers a rough time last year.

They lost 14-8, but the defense was strong, and there were chances to pull off the shocker.

Even with Jahmyr Gibbs off to Alabama, the running backs are good enough to at least give it a shot against the amazing Clemson defensive front. If they can do anything, veteran QB Jeff Sims might be able to do just enough to keep the chains moving.
