Three reasons Purdue could give Ohio State issues on Saturday

Here are three reasons Purdue could give Ohio State fits on Saturday. #GoBucks

We are just a couple of days away from another game on Ohio State football’s journey to make it to yet another Big Ten Championship game and potential College Football Playoff, but a team that has already slain a couple of top-five opponents stands in the way. The Purdue Boilermakers have already taken down Iowa and Michigan State, respectively ranked No. 2 and No. 3 at the time, and they now set their eyes on toppling another one.

The Buckeyes host Purdue at home in the ‘Shoe and the Boilermakers aren’t often called the Spoilermakers without reason. Even aside from this season, Purdue has a history of spring upsets and has even been a thorn in the side of OSU during the last ten meetings, winning four of those including the 40-29 2018 debacle that still triggers Ohio State fans.

If anything, the team Jeff Brohm has this year might have more pieces to shock the world yet again than it has in recent memory, including that 2018 team. So, OSU had better be a more focused, engaged, and intentional bunch on Saturday afternoon.

Here are three reasons Purdue could cause some fits for Ohio State this weekend,

Ohio State vs. Penn State football preview and prediction

Ohio State welcomes Penn State to the ‘Shoe for a prime time showdown. We have a complete preview and prediction to get you ready.

It’s Penn State week! While this is a marquee matchup, some of the shine came off after the Nittany Lions bumbled their way to a nine overtime loss to lowly Illinois. And to think … James Franklin’s name keeps coming up for jobs at USC and LSU.

Ohio State upheld its end of the bargain, continuing its winning ways in dominating fashion. The Buckeyes obliterated Indiana over the weekend to keep their stock high and continue to climb.

These two proud programs get ready to lock horns on Saturday night in Columbus as the Buckeyes look to continue their winning ways.

Ohio State vs. Indiana football preview and prediction

Ohio State heads to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers. We have a complete preview and prediction to get you ready.

Your Ohio State Buckeyes are up to No. 5 in all the major polls, including the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 Poll.  After a bye week to rest up, the Bucks head into the second half of the season with some important matchups ahead.

First on the docket, a trip to Bloomington where Indiana waits and hopes to exact some revenge on OSU after falling just short to the Buckeyes last year in Columbus. The Hoosier’s lone regular-season loss kept them out of the Big Ten Championship game and may have cost them a trip to the College Football Playoff.

IU fans have been waiting on this one as many feel that Ohio State was handed a spot to represent the Big Ten East after not meeting the minimum required games played. However, Kevin Warren and the Big Ten actually got this one right, something that can’t be said about much of the commissioner’s short tenure.

Time to take the grudge match from the fan’s social media to the gridiron.

Ohio State vs. Maryland football preview and prediction

Ohio State looks to continue its dominating ways as Maryland prepares to come to town. We’ve got a complete preview and prediction to get you ready.

It took until week five, but Ohio State finally looked like the well-rounded team that we all thought it was going to be. The Buckeyes did look good against Akron, but let’s be honest, it was Akron.

Beating up on Rutgers might not feel all that energizing, but the Scarlet Knights are a much-improved team. Just ask Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan fan base. After the Wolverines squeaked by Greg Schiano’s bunch a week earlier, you would’ve thought Rutgers was the second coming of the Crimson Tide.

I think Buckeye Nation understands that a win over the Scarlet Knights shouldn’t be confused as a program-defining win. However, fans should be encouraged simply because the Bucks did exactly what they were supposed to do, dominate an inferior opponent.

Maryland comes to town next as Ohio State will face another stiff challenge from a much improved Terrapin football team  — aside from the turnover-laden game last week against Iowa.

Ohio State vs. Akron football preview and prediction

Ohio State welcomes in state foe Akron for a game under the lights. #GoBucks

While many fans have already pushed the panic button on the season, and maybe rightfully so, this week should be another piece to the puzzle that is the 2021 version of Ohio State football.

And this team truly is a puzzle. If OSU wins and wins big, that’s a good sign, but not necessarily something to hang our proverbial hat on. However, if the Buckeyes struggle in any aspect with Akron, the problems may be bigger than any of us realized.

Akron ranks at No. 129 in the FPI (Football Power Index ranking). They’ve been blown out Auburn and Temple and have one win against FCS opponent Bryant.

The Buckeyes get the Zips in primetime under the lights at the ‘Shoe.

Ohio State vs. Tulsa football preview and prediction

Ohio State tries to rebound and get back on track when the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes come to town. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team gave us a clunker of a performance this past Saturday against Oregon. Even though the Ducks were never blowing the Buckeyes out, OSU never really seemed to get its footing to pose much of a threat. It was disappointing, to say the least.

However, all is not lost Buckeye fans. Ohio State can still accomplish all of its goals for the season, although the margin for error is much smaller now. And to say something has to change with the defensive game plan is an understatement.

The Buckeyes welcome Tulsa to town this weekend. Not a marquee matchup by any means, but maybe just what the doctor ordered to work out some kinks and get Ohio State back on track.

Oregon comes to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes. See how we think it will all go down.

It’s week two of college football and Ohio State has the marquee matchup as they take on the Oregon Ducks this Saturday. Both teams came away with wins this past week to set up what could be a top-ten showdown. Currently, Ohio State sits at No. 4 and the Ducks are just outside the top-ten rankings.

Both teams struggled to an extent this past week, although the Buckeyes were playing a much tougher opponent and seemed to get things figured out by the second half against Minnesota. Oregon on the other hand had to hang on to the very end against Fresno State.

Either way, the Ducks and the Bucks know the importance of a non-conference game of such high stakes. Not only for conference bragging rights but more importantly, the inside track to a potential College Football Playoff birth.

Ohio State vs. Minnesota 2021 football preview and prediction

Preview and prediction for Ohio State vs. Minnesota

Ladies and gentlemen, college football is back with it being game week for Ohio State! And back the way it should be with full stadiums of real live people and not cardboard cutouts. It felt good to watch games this past weekend and hear the crowds roar! It’s the little things we had taken for granted, so now it feels even more special.

Week 0 came and went. Bret Bielema is back in the Big Ten and looking to put Illinois back on the map, while Scott Frost’s seat got a little bit warmer with a loss to the Illini and several inexcusable mental mistakes.

Now for Buckeye fans, football really begins as Ohio State travels to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers for a Thursday night showdown. It’s the first steps of what Ryan Day and the rest of the Buckeyes hope is another shot at a national championship.

Ryan Day talks C.J. Stroud, preseason camp update

Ryan Day named C.J. Stroud the starter on Saturday, but had more than that to update. Watch his presser here.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with reporters on Monday as a part of some “bonus” coverage, as an unscheduled presser. It turns out, he was ready to announce what everyone thought, naming redshirt freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud the starter for game one against Minnesota.

And while that subject took up a good amount of his time at the podium, it’s not all Day discussed. He also talked about the named captains of the team and others needing to also be leaders, provided some injury updates, sang the praises of the other quarterbacks, and more.

If you missed any of his comments and want to get up to speed, we’ve got the entire presser for you thanks to the Ohio State Buckeyes Facebook page.

Click on the below and have a watch to get all the updates the coach provided Saturday morning and afternoon.

Ohio State is set to square off with the Golden Gophers on Thursday, September 2. We’re less than two weeks away.

LOOK: Broncos’ Von Miller has fallen in love with former Ohio State players in the NFL

This very high praise coming from someone without ties to Ohio State. Can’t get any more complimentary than this.

We love to gush about current and former Ohio State football players here on this homer of a Buckeye site, and we’re not hiding it. And why not? The Buckeyes are one of the best programs in college football currently and historically, and they send a ton of talent to the NFL.

So, you can flip on the television or rotate the streaming device to watch OSU play on Saturday, then do it all over again to follow your favorite Ohio State players in the NFL on Sunday (and Monday, and Thursday now).

But what if other unbiased players that have no ties to Ohio State begun to shower love on players that once did impressive athletic feats on the banks of the Olentangy? Well, you can no longer call it a homer take by someone wearing scarlet and gray colored classes right?

We have such an instance and it comes from the Denver Broncos, but not just any Bronco, but superstar outside linebacker Von Miller. Yes, that Von Miller that has made the Pro Bowl eight times, hauled in honors as Super Bowl 50 MVP, and was voted to the NFL’s 2010’s All-Decade Team.

Before that, Miller played for Texas A&M where he was a two-time First-Team All-American and selected by Denver with the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. In other words, he knows football and knows talent.

It should be noteworthy then that Miller decided to go out of his way to single out what he sees from former Ohio State players in the league. He was specifically asked about Jonathon Cooper after preseason practice on Thursday and went into a self-acting infomercial and endorsement for all things Ohio State.

“These Ohio State guys can play some football,” Miller said during his post-practice media press conference Thursday. “They really can. I’m an Aggie and I love Texas A&M. I bleed maroon, but these Ohio State guys can play football. You look around the league, there are so many big-time Ohio State guys out here. We have ‘Coop’, we have Dre’Mont, and we have [OLB] Baron [Browning]. I was like, ‘These guys were on the same team? No wonder why they were going to the championship playoffs and national championships and doing all this stuff.

“He [Cooper] just has that culture. He’s been playing football his whole entire life. He’s natural at it and he’s a tough guy. [He has a] very, very high motor [and is] very, very strong. He just gets it. He gets it at an early age. He’s shedding guys. I don’t like giving them coaching tips because he’s doing such a great job. Whenever you give him any type of tip or any type of pointer, he picks it up right away. That’s the quality of a great player. You can coach him one time and you’re not coaching him on the same thing over and over and over. He just gets it. A lot of respect to those Ohio State guys. They play some big-time football over there.”

And yeah, it’s praise that doesn’t come from any Ohio State beat writer, former player, or coach. And that’s, worth its verbal weight in gold if you are out on the recruiting trail. Come to think of it, the OSU staff probably already has these quotes laminated and in the recruiting binders as we speak.
