Baylor transfer Jack Pineda drafted in the 12th round by Kansas City Royals, will sign

Several teams reportedly shied away from recruiting Pineda in the transfer portal out of concern that he intended to sign with a pro team.

One of LSU baseball’s top additions from the transfer portal won’t be making it to Baton Rouge, after all.

[autotag]Jack Pineda[/autotag] was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB draft on Tuesday, and The Advocate’s Leah Vann reported that he intends to sign.

Pineda was committed to transferring to LSU after two good years with the Baylor Bears. In two years in Waco, Pineda had a .313 batting average with 31 doubles, eight triples, 11 homers and 68 RBI.

Pineda is 5-foot-10 and 170-pounds, projecting as a middle infielder. He announced his commitment to LSU in June and was touted as one of the best players in the transfer portal, but according to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers, a lot of teams had shied away from recruiting him because he told them he wanted to sign with a pro team.

With Pineda moving on, that’s yet another player who was committed to coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] that won’t ultimately make it to campus.
